Whew, what a month

Hey everyone!

It's been a busy month, very much so on the streaming front--and I do want to bring that up quick to give a rundown about what's happening there and the balance between streams and NM uploads.

So... first thing to address is that streaming is meant to do exactly four things:

1. Replace sponsorship revenue on NM, thereby eliminating sponsors and making main videos a much more enjoyable experience for everyone through a viable option that's happier for everybody, related exactly to point 2:

2. Deliver more unfiction exploration to you, more often, even if unscripted, especially if the topic is not something I'm certain can make for a scripted a video--and that's a hell of a lot better as a way to make the money sponsors provided than to keep dealing with them and spending a week or more in isolation on a scripted video only to follow up release by immediately diving into another

3. Spread awareness, love, exploration, and support of unfiction and its creators through a new outlet and territory (I'm not here to be a vtuber, I'm here to be an ambassador and missionary, they just don't know it ;;P )

4. Getting more time: for opportunities for us to spend time together, for developing videos at Shipwrecked 64 strength, for having ideas like asking Barnaby's voice actor to supply lines in the Welcome Home update and then having that extra fun in it, and to actually see the options laid out in the field by exploring through streams, knowing what's involved and if I can make a scripted video

To be honest, though... getting streaming to be a viable enough option takes laying into whatever it takes to stabilize it, and because of the way streaming started, I didn't get that stability.

Let's be extremely honest: that anime smooth-faced stereotypical idol costume was never Nick Nocturne, never will be Nick Nocturne, and it was embarrassing to show it around while trying to do my work and present new projects. My only saving grace in debut besides getting my victory of my actual year-round form presented as much as I did was getting to make fun of it in-story as much as I did. I didn't broadcast the streaming more or upload VODs because that's not the monster cat with four eyes you've known and supported for years, but until things changed on the horizon, I was stuck using that model. There are reasons I had to go through that whole phase with the vtuber costume model, and for the greater commitment I made creatively with Astraline, it was necessary, but I am very very glad to inform you that he's being put to the grave in July, and you're getting exactly who you've been waiting for.

But all that time spent not feeling good streaming with the model meant not streaming so much, and certainly not putting out VODs, and that meant growth to stability didn't occur the way it needed to.

As soon as I got the March Hare model this spring, I actually felt comfortable in my skin, which is why I have streamed more and put up VODs. But I've had to stream a lot more, because the March Hare's success and revenue in this period is what is directly financing the true model in July that enables me to go forward proudly and operate equally on Night Mind through YouTube and Twitch, with constant VODs of live project investigations for everyone to enjoy.

I simply cannot make a scripted video for everything, and if I kept that approach, I would live through burnout for the fourth, fifth, idk, sixth? time in my career and I'd still be underserving creators and their art, and I didn't come here to only do some of what I can in this mission choosing to be stubborn when I can evolve and do much more good.

Scripted videos are never going away--but it's been a weirder up, down, boom, bust, etc. cycle from the start with streaming to get things leveled out. (YouTube was so much simpler, God...)

I'm very happy to say, though, that as soon as It's May, I'm taking a good two weeks or so off from concentrated streaming to do videos! It's making me very happy to know I'm going to do that, and I'm excited to get to it.

Thanks as always for your understanding, your patience, and your support throughout all of this. I'll keep you updated as I've got updates! ::3

I am glad you get to be your full authentic self and feel good in your own skin (fur?) Again. It's so very important to feel comfortable.

Music to my ears and a blessing! Thank you, Mags, and I'm glad I can help spark that creative spirit. This year's prompt may come sooner than you think... ;;3

Night Mind

Thanks for sharing your creative life and putting this out Nick. I was so inspired by this post, that I finally got up the courage to ask the coolest person I know (my teenaged son) if he'd collaborate on a Candy Bowl entry with me this fall. He said yes! And so we started brainstorming how we'd approach tackling it when the prompt drops in August. His life is sets, props and LARP. My profession is a different type of art. And we both need to be intentional about creative projects or we get lost in creation. We also had a good talk about how not being able to fully express your authentic self impacts the act of creating and living. You are a very valued cat-demon guide from afar and we look forward to seeing your four cat eyes staring out of the screen at us again.

Mags

I can't wait to see the new Nick. Not because I didn't like what you were already doing, but because I'll be happy to know that you feel more comfortable in a skin that better fits you

BowieBarks

So happy for you! I can't wait to see what is coming! <3

Darsh

Can't wait to see our favourite cat demon return to form! The anime catboi was cute, for sure, but it'll be good to see a more comfortable you 🖤

Crystal Fier

I had my suspicions about that avatar, pfft.

Rick Whitechest

I'm so happy you found a "skin" you comfortable with,it's really showed in the stream, you seems truly happy

netro

Proud of you Nick, can't wait to see what's in store

MattThe1Cat

I didn't think being uncomfortable in one's skin could apply to V-tubing, but I think I can understand? You want people to see you for who you are. Presenting a false face, especially in something you care about so much? S'really rough. Looking forward to whatever weirdness you have in store. :P

Gray

Cannot wait for videos to come back!

Helgrier

Hmm... so, tell us how you really feel. (Apologies, I couldn't resist xD)

Mark 'The Commissioner' Hancock

You deserve it. 😘😘😘
