Between tomorrow's YouTube episode for "Quincentuple Your Money" and today's full-album analysis of Oh! Calcutta!, I've certainly ingested a hefty dose of feisty Chicago punk this weekend.
Admittedly, I was a tad indifferent about The Lawrence Arms at first, but it's almost impossible for me to listen to any rock album (especially with undivided attention) without it slowly winning me over in some way or another. You can't deny this band's cathartic delivery—it effortlessly lures you in with a few adrenaline spikes alongside Brendan Kelly's killer bass tone and thoughtful grooves.
These guys combine a few unassuming elements for me into one sound; they remind me of that one random Banner Pilot song I heard on a mixtape awhile back, a little bit of early Sum 41, an overflowing scoop of Rancid, and maybe even a pinch of coarse Pennywise salt. Maybe even two pinches.
