Speedrun Explained 38: Update 1; S&Y: Update 1

Hey all! Coming at you hot and fresh with a couple new updates!

First is that we just hit 250 Patrons! Thank you all so much, just seriously. The idea that we're at a quarter of a thousand Patrons is just something I can't even wrap my mind around, so thank you all so much. For crossing the barrier, you all are owed a new Fan-Fiction Friday (probably will be out this Friday), a Q&A stream (likely will be next week, I'll announce the date sometime this week), and also a Patron-submitted poll to decide a future video! I'll outline that in a post this week as well and put up the submissions post for you all once I get things sorted out. There might be a couple small differences in the process, but for the most part it'll be largely the same.

Now onto video updates!

First is the next SPEEDRUN EXPLAINED, which will be covering an Any% No TearDrop speedrun of Dark Souls III. I've already had a call with the runner for the video where we went over the contents of the run together, and I'm currently in the scripting stage for the video. With current pace, the script should be done sometime this week, and hopefully recording and editing will begin next week. This video will be out sometime at the end of January.

I have the game picked out for the next SPEEDRUN EXPLAINED after DS3 coughwhat Soulsborne game hasn't been covered yetcough, though I'm still consulting with an expert on what category and version would be best to cover, so no official announcement on that yet, but hopefully in the next week it'll be sorted out. There is one other video in production right now though that isn't a SPEEDRUN EXPLAINED, and I referred to in an earlier post as "Speedrunning and You! What, Why, and How?" I'm a bit more ready right now to talk about what it is in concept, but not ready to fully divulge all the goodies of the video because it'll be super different from anything else on the channel.

In short, the video will be covering the basics of speedrunning: what it is, why people do it, and how people do it (and how to go about doing it or watching them). There is a bit more to it than that though, but I think the more left unsaid for this video the better (at least for right now, you'll learn more about it in the coming weeks or month). Currently the video is pretty early on in the writing stage, but it's 100% underway and happening.

The part of production for this video that is going to take longest is definitely the writing stage that we're currently in because there's just a lot of concepts and definitions and structuring to be done, and it's honestly a lot. This is why I've brought in a friend/expert on speedruns to help write the video with me. We've gone over the project and are on the same page but have been taking some time to generate ideas and will likely be getting going on writing more in the coming weeks. As of right now though, the big priority is getting out the DS3 video though so most of my time will be going to that video at the moment with a little time set aside each day/week to further along this other informational video. It'll probably be a little slow going for this video for a bit, but once the writing stage is finished, it should be a race to the finish since all the little details for making the video are already planned and figured out.

Sorry for being so cryptic with this video, I'll hopefully have more info on it in the coming weeks as things get a bit more figured out, but right now the project is on the right track and in the early stages of production. Very excited to tell you more about it at a future date. Until then though, have an above average one everyone!
