I'm curious

Have you listened to any episodes of Darknet Diaries more than once? If so which ones? I'm also wondering if there was a time when you were listening and got so into the story that you had to stop what you were doing. If so what episode or part was it?

Loving Dubsnatch! Had to stop and tell someone it was awesome. You sound like you had so much fun making it. Bring on the joy.

k

I was walking my dog (usually a 15min walk) and I was listening to the episode about the social engineer and was so immersed that I ended up walking the full episode. Since then Darknet Diaries has been my walking podcast. It's such a treat and great motivation to get out and be active!

Jandrix

Hot wallets, pizza problems, courthouse, Xbox underground and any of the darknet vendor ones. Way more than once.

BMP !

Xbox Underground! And one of the zero day ones, NSO maybe it was. And stuxnet!

Liviu Macovei

The ones about xbox underground as well as the ones for manfred! I've been in the 3ds hacking scene and game hacking scene so they interested me

Pal One

I listen to Darknet everyday at work I personally have listened to all your stories 2 times and they are never boring .

Anthony Koontz

Listened to them all but money maker - aria - operation bayonet- cam the carder I've Listened to 3 + times

Not Applicable

In the first shorts episode there was a story about a wind farm not clearing out the crypto miner intruder because they kept the systems up to date. I had stop to tell a co-worker the story after I was done laughing.

J64

Loteria

k

listened to all of them, and my personal favorites so far are the Xbox Undergorund, Money Maker, Manfred and Pirate Bay Episode

ylufy

Many times, usually it's the ones where you mention the tools, hardware and software, as I like to learn more about these things. Like the one that comes to mind is the one where the guy broke is feet (ankle?) while jumping off a "low" roof.

Alexandre Vallières

Ep 29: Stuxnet, Ep 85: Cam the Carder, and the most recent Ep 101: Lotería.

cj

The Xbox hacking group prolly one of the best stories by farrrr!!

Julian Luna

IRS & Unit-8200

Dawood Sajjadi

The Athens Shadow Games, Just Visiting, Jeremy from Marketing, Jon & Brian’s Big Adventures & Jenny Radcliffe. Love the Social Engineering / Physical Pen Testing episodes.

Jade Cooper

Hi I have listened to The Police Station Incident and Unit 8200

Stuart

I've listened to Beirut Bank Job a few times and it's always the one I recommend newbies to listen to. We still talk about it today. Nearly everyone I've recommended it to is still listening. Best part of my month is listening to 2 or 3 new episodes and going back on old faves.

Colm Hogan

The X-Box episodes required a few listens just to try to keep all the players straight in my head. That also answers the 2nd question. Yes, I had to stop everything else to really listen to the story. I think those are my favorite. Very hard to pick because all the stories are fascinating!!! I love any episode involving nation-state actors! And I’ve listened to a few of those more than once. Stuxnet, of course. I saw the movie. Your podcast was better! Now all these old episodes are floating around in my brain and I think I need to re-listen to a few of them. Can’t remember the name or number, but the guy that found the Zero Day for maybe the Linksys home routers (?) and he spent over a year trying to get someone to fix it. Wow! I’ve got to find that one! As for extra content, the episode with your Dad was great!!! Love all of it, Jack! I listen to lots of podcasts, but there’s only 1 that I drop everything for as soon as that alert pops up! Darknet Diaries!!! Keep them coming! I will double my donation if you double your output. I know that’s not a fair trade, but it’s out there. Seriously though, Thanks Jack!! You are amazing! This podcast is amazing! All your hard work and talent is evident in every episode!

DarkSenseOfForeboding

Stuxnet, jeremy from marketing. I must have heard these 2 atleast 4 times each. Understand the hack from a hackers perspective was great(referring to jeremy from marketing here).

MONISH BHARGAV

Currently listening to the old stuff as we speak. Can't get enough.

Tom

Episode 50: Operation Glowing Symphony - This episode inspired me to pursue an offensive security career in the DoD

Antonio Banderas

About 80% of the time I have to stop what I'm doing. But the one I repeated more then once was Courthouse

Jacob Frankurt

What is your discord server?

Baljinder Singh

I have listened to each episode more than once. I will sometimes hit shuffle and just let them play while I work. DD is by far my favorite series. Thank you!

Benjamin Connelly

I love Malicious Life, but DD is by far my favorite also. I could get into a roundtable show hosted by Jack, Jordan H, Ran Levi, and Amit Serper!

Benjamin Connelly

I can't wait to finish up and listen to them all over again. I am so hooked!!!! You are great!!

Anabel Martinez-Amador

I've listened to all of them at least 3 times, some many more. I love the podcast, keep up the great work!

Austin Hildebrant

Btw: one of my favourite parts is the end lines, when you always think of some new and original stuff like "crouching" Jack something or "Bouncing" Breakmaster Cylinder :)

Crouching Olli B

Really need to do nothing besides it - tried it and failed. No multitasking for me ;) and: it's totally worth it :) It's my "night thing" now for several weeks, lying in bed and listening right before turning flightmode on and going to sleep. Thanks for doing it!

Crouching Olli B

I've listened to Black Duck Eggs twice - really enjoyed that episode.

Rosie Hunter

I have listened to all of them at least twice. Initially i used to listen whilst working but i find with alot of them i end up stopping what i am doing and then before i know it i have done nothing for an hour. So i try to listen when i have time to myself now. They content is great, but the soundtracks and the way it's told just reels me in.

Ken

I've listened to the entire podcast 2 full times and working on third while i wait for new episodes. Love it Jack!

Jordon DeCola

yeah X-box underground is what I show people to get them hooked! What a wild ride that was.

Feminem

X-Box Underground has to be my all time favorite. I’m from Delaware state and live a few minutes from Wilmington , so it resonated with me even more. I think I might have gone to school with Justin in the episodes but I’m only like 30% confident that it was The same guy.

Jimmy Chu

100% The Courthouse and Jeremy from marketing

casey williams

Even though this was from a while back, I have to say that my favorite episodes are the ones about Cyber Command and those agencies. I just moved to the Maryland area myself being part of the Air Forces Cyber Team. I've been listening to these stories while working on OSCP and I gotta say, its tough staying focused just because these are so great and intense at times! Great work!

CyberThulhu22

Xbox underground, The courthouse, Just visiting, but jeremy from accounting is my all time favorite. Would love to here all his stories.. Hes pretty funny.

Carolyn Deller

Yeah Ive listened to a bunch multiple times. Xbox underground in particular because it was a little close to home

Jason Chalom

Hacker Giraffe this is one I also recommend to friends, especially gamers. Also Jordan, I subbed his podcast because of this episode.

theRemix

I've listened to notpetya and xbox underground a couple times. A couple others too but those were my favorite. I haven't stopped what I'm doing because I'm always driving when I listen. I have had to rewind many times because missed something due to traffic though

Michael Dean

Listened to the one about the Belgacom hack and Not Petya at least twice. Belgacom because I'm European. Not peta because the company I work for wasd hit by it.

I’ve listened to them all multiple times. I think the first one I ever listened to more than once was “For Your Eyes Only.” Great podcast, Jack!

ryoni

I listened to "No parking" a few times now, gets my heart beating fast lol, man Im gonna break into that industry soon

Mr. Postman Steve

This post is old, but there’s not that many posts here, so I’ll respond to it anyways. I have yet to listen to all of the episodes, but I believe I have listened to about half of them by now. One of my favorites so far is “Zain”, the episode of the young boy who manipulates people online to pay him money by exposing them when they are at their most vulnerable. It’s crazy to hear that a boy not any older than myself would be able to do such a thing, never mind actually pulling through with it. It’s horrible, but also so fascinating. Anyways, that’s one I would recommend:)

Lea Raknes

I have got to say that I have listened to a few more than once and plan on it again. I am a 50 year old info sec student and it seems to me this should be part of a class. I have listened from beginning to end but I jumped around some to. I first heard a reference to Hackers the movie so I looked it up and watched it. It was interesting and Angelina Jolie! but seeing the old modems that coupled to phone handsets and seeing the now famous line about the ATM hack! then I found references to MR Robot that I had previously watched the first few episodes and lost interest but now had new life and meaning now that I understand more of the terminology. all thanks to your podcast and explanations of terms, devices and everything. THANKS SO MUCH!!!

Jay Struble

I listened to Carna Botnet, Jeremy from Marketing, No Parking, Just Visiting episodes more than once. Most of the Darknet Diaries episodes make me stop and listen carefully to what's you saying, even though, Carna Botnet is my favourite. But the story that completely changed the way I see the security was the XBox Underground series. Plus, I really enjoy listening to the Mini Episodes. Thanks, Jack :)

Max S.

My dad showed me the carbanak episode and I was immediately hooked. I've definitely listened to one a few times.

Asher Loyd

+1 for all the Penetration test stories. However, i'm normally a one time listener, and it's the same for DD

Tobias N

I have listened to quite a few and then played them for my wife in the car later. The pen-tester stories are the ones she enjoys the most. The one that I remember most is Black Duck Eggs. That story really pulled her in.

Wayne Cole

I've re-listened to every episode at least once, some twice. I love the physical penetration test stories, and the episodes involving state actors. (Also, I came to your show, and hacking related topics in general, in a bizarre way. I was SUPER into the movie Hackers, and into warez level aol stuff, when I was a kid. Then I got into graphic design, and later stand-up comedy, and didn't pursue anything hacking related. (I wasn't that interested in coding) Then about 6 months ago I watched a show on Netflix called "Money Heist". It's about a billion dollar (physical) bank robbery. Once I finished it, I was looking for podcasts related to big bank heists/robberies. I found the episode about the billion dollar bank heist. That renewed my interested in hacking. Then I listened to all of the back episodes, and now eagerly await new ones. Since then, I got SUPER into hacking related podcasts/books (I've since started listening to, and finished, Malicious Life, Hacking Humans, Breach, and a few others. Your's is BY FAR my favorite.) I'm still not into coding, but I'm super fascinated with all things hacking. Me and my girlfriend are evening planning to go to Defcon in the future. I'm about to listen to the Sandworm audio book as I work. I also now have a new stand-up joke about rewatching Hackers. (Which I did after listening) Thank you for everything you do! I'm a big fan!

Nick Pagano

I’m about to listen to the entire series again but, personally the shows I return to are the episodes that offer an insight into Nation State activity and often require deep investigative journalism; Operation Glowing Symphony, Operation Socialist, Shadow Brokers, Dark Caracal, Shamoon, Stuxnet, Unit8200, Misadventures of a Nation State Actor. Olympic Destroyer was a fascinating operation that hasn’t been covered yet. Wired wrote a great piece on this https://www-wired-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.wired.com/story/untold-story-2018-olympics-destroyer-cyberattack/amp

Paul Harris

Operation Socialist, lots of online reading ensued

Eugene Leventhal

PBX hacking. Trying to get my son hooked too. So far, not so much. I guess I should try the XBOX ep's.

Patrik A

X Box Underground, whilst on a flight from Sydney to London

Dan Billing

I'm pretty sure I've listened to every episode more than once, 2 weeks is a long time to wait for a new episode. The newest episode "Operation Glowing Symphony" I've listened to at least 3 times already.

Shane Brady

Honoustly a big fan! Last week listened to all episodes on PocketCast while working in my garden. Amazing material, great for learning a thing or two as well. Worked as Computer Forensic analyst and Incident responder for PwC in the past and this made me want to get back in security (current system and network admin). In fact have a job interview soon, so thanks for updating me on some stuff.

Chris Roijens

I'm re-listening to that one right now.

Stephanie Michael

Xbox Underground made me go from riding a train to driving a car (not my car) without taking my headphones off, that was insane. I've listened to it twice now, so the Dylan at ICE was a great bonus episode, thanks Jack.

Jeremy Kirkwood

Recent listener and working my way back through on my commute everyday - Love the Pen test ones and the recent XBOX ones were amazing as was just Visiting - blew my mind the effort they went to. Have listened twice to 8200 - as I was interested in what they do to skill people and get value from them so quickly - it would be useful in my job.

Mat Sleightholme

I listened to your podcasts more than once, specifically the Mini stories one with Dave Kennedy. Also the Project Raven one was soo good I had to stop what I was doing.

Kevin Dienst

Not goanna lie i can't do anything else when I listen cause otherwise I miss details and have to rewind, they are too good.

Christopher Ottesen

I listened to the homemade bomb shelter episode multiple times, but mostly for the intro. It's still by far my favorite opener to one of your podcasts. Gripped me INSTANTLY

Lucas Hamilton

I enjoyed the impromptu cyber war series on Stuxnet, Unit 8200 and Saudi Aramco

Lachlan Hatfield

I am a new supporter and found this podcast about a week ago. I just finished listening to all 44 current episodes. This is the first podcast that I have subscribed to and think it is fantastic. I love the stores and plan on listening to most of them again. My favorite episodes are the nation-state hacking stories like episode 28, 29, and 30. I, also, really enjoy the pentesting stories like episodes 21, 36, 40, and 42. You are awesome storyteller and hope to see many more episodes from you.

Gary

Listened to Black Duck Eggs at least three times

Zeke Uribe

It is an old question, but I'm a new supporter. I have listened to several eps more than once just because the stories are so incredible. I subscribe to around 25-30 pods and this is the one I am most eager to listen too when a new ep is uploaded. I'd like to hear a story about hackers who take large institutions hostage. This happened at UCLA when I worked there and the university ended up paying the ransom to get the data back.

Jasan Klepp

I know it's an old question, but I especially enjoyed the last episode about the fella in Maryland and his tunnels cause it's like one county over from me and I never heard anything about it til your episode came out. Also, I find the social engineering episodes especially interesting. Like when you interview people who walk us through step by step how they infiltrate an organizations security resources. Its actually inspiring me to start seriously thinking about getting involved in the field. I'm looking into conferences and/or educational opportunities where I can dip my toe in.

bark › bite

I don't listen to episodes multiple times, mostly because I got the feeling I already know how the 'story' unfolded. But I really have great memories of the Beirut Bankjob and some of the smaller ones, mostly about the social engineering. Those are probably the ones I can identify the most with ... the technical ones are also great, but are more 'abstract' and further away. But also Black Duck Eggs, Stuxnet, Jeremy from Marketing were very enjoyable episodes. It's just hard to pick, they are all very great! ^^

Oskar van Velden

Not necessarily a direct answer to the question, but I listen to many podcasts. As a result, I typically listen @ 1.8x speed. But this one I really need to listen @ 1.0x due to the technical nature, otherwise I find myself constantly backing up. This is such an enjoyable podcast!!

Mike Price

I’m currently working my way through every episode again. It’s just that great of a podcast. Keep up the great work

Steven Nuhn

English is not my first language, so when I listen to podcasts I usually can't do anything on the side (like work), so I mostly listen on my commute. My top episodes are: - TalkTalk: because of just how *wild* it is. I remember I started listening to it on the way to the bus stop, and I literally stopped on my tracks with my mouth open listening to the justifications of the CEO. - Eijah: because I remember when the DRM code was posted everywhere by anyone, without explanation, the internet was flooded with it somehow (I'm just seeing it even has a Know Your Meme post, hahaha) - Jackpot: because I feel like it's a different kind of thing, a machine exploit, done out in the open and not a "basement dwelling neckbeard" persona hacking away at a keyboard that most people associate with that sort of thing - Ill Tills / The Carder: had my CC info stolen two years ago and it gave me some insight into how it can be done and circulated to the wrong people (the person who used my info tried to buy horse-riding equipment with it...)

Alex Px

I played one episode for my 9 year old to try and alert him to how hackers use apps and offers to get free stuff for the video games he plays to gain access to your stuff. He liked it so much that I redownloaded all of the episodes to listen to with him. Then when you said that there were 9 year olds listening he felt like you were talking directly to him. 😄 Now he calls you by your first name. "Did Jack put out any new episodes?"

FlocktimusPrime

I listened to the Duck Eggs one multiple times - can't get enough of the ex-russian agent calling out the intelligence-estc chinese restaurant. :P

meta

The bonus episode. I literally put in headphones while vacuuming so I didn't miss it

Nick Enslow

I was laughing out loud on the train listening to the Giraffe episode of how stupidly easy it was and people were annoyed at him. Ok you can see it as a dick move then block your printers.....not just whinge a do nothing! *facepalm*

PHo Bwz

Would have to be black duck eggs and stuxnet. But all have been great.

Aaron Sanders

Unit 8200 and Beirut Bank ! But they're all great ! Thank you Jack !

Bastien Barbas

The Beirut Bank Job, ASUSgate, Unit 8200, and #opjustina I've listened to several times. But I think I've listened to all of them more than once. I listen to them while I'm cooking and my wife gets scared when she hears some of them.

Eric Patricio

Same here, I really want to make it this year to DEFCon. I was checking the one in China, but I suspect a lot of it will be in Chinese and also it is not the same as being in LV.

Gonzalo Perilhou

The minstories might have inspired me to go to DEFCon for the first time ever... You're opening my eyes to whole new world out there

Jill Palermo

I too bought Countdown to Zero Day because of the Stuxnet episode.

Justin Moore

I did the same thing with my wife but had her listen to Black Duck Eggs first then The Beirut Bank Job. I have been trying to convince as many people as possible to listen to this podcast.

The Beirut Bank job episode with Jayson Street. Listened to it once myself and then made my wife listen to it with me again later in the evening. The Stuxnet episode made me finally purchase the book Countdown to Zero Day.

The Alberto episode made me stop and look up news articles.

Seb Barre

Yep, Carna Botnet for me as well. I used the podcast as an example in one of my books

Hackerish McCode

Episode 13: Carna Botnet. I've listened to it twice now, just because I found it quite fascinating. I've been playing around with computers since the mid 80's when my dad bought my brother and I a Timex Sinclair 2000 and we started learning to program. So any old stories or dealing with early infrastructure of the internet or computing have a tendency to catch my attention.

Ben Squires

Mini-Stories Vol 1 was the first episode I ever heard and I was so intrigued that I've not only been hooked on the show ever since, but I'm also researching Social Engineering in earnest. Found that I was so interested I had to turn it off until I could focus and asked my wife run into a store herself so I could stay outside and listen!

C E

Every episoder is very engaging. But The mot intresting is The one with socialengeneering. But every one is really great

Albin Dalbert

I really liked Mini-stories and Vtech, and others with social-engineering and/or phones.

Liz

I'm listening to every episode again. It is fantastic. My favorite is Crypto Wars.

Blake Barber

oh well, to answer your question, yes, i have heard many of them more than once. Mostly because I end listening to one and i left the podcast player playing!

Darkweb, Bitcoins, altcoins and Blockchain Uruguay

yeah Jack! I have been diagnosed with a new disease where I hell your podcasts all day and all night!!! Aparrently it is a brand new, absolutely unique state in which all you can do in your brain is to sing "lalalala the molodies of your stories" From time to time I have headaches and I wake up holding my singlair zx 81 afraid that the dean will inspect it and realized I used it to save games onte cassette tapes. Other times I wake up sweating and I think that my country is being invaded in a cybernetic way by the the elite, the best of the best hacers of the world.... cri cri.... and they are deplyoing an exploit on the day of the final match of the most important soccer tournament in America. The only time this thing is not like a nightmare, is when I am dreaming in a casino in punta del este, and the devices have a bug and i....... end up singing with kylie minougue!! i should be solucky lucky lucky...

Darkweb, Bitcoins, altcoins and Blockchain Uruguay

Carna botnet for sure! 2 or 3 times and it's better every time.

Matthew Hausrath

Started listening at #`1 a week ago after a friend recommended your podcast, and I just finished the Carna botnet today, and I just had to become a patreon. Thus, so far I have not listened twice. For stopping...the Carna botnet one. You kinda said to stop and go look at the map on the website, so I did, and I was so fascinated by the patterns on the map, that almost forgot to go on with the episode. The MtGox one was also one that I paid close attention to, since I has a small amount (luckily) of bitcoin on MtGox when they went down.

Thinus du Plooy

Mobman, Carna botnet, and the one about China blocking google. 1st time was by myself, 2nd time with friends.

Jordan

Just last week went back to listen to the DigiNotar episode after getting tasked with some cert work for my team's internal site. First time dealing with a CA as a developer, and thanks to you I looked like a rockstar.

Ely

Mobman and Vtech were amazing. Those hooked me to binge the shows - and I listened to all of them in two days.

Ryan Callahan

Mobman was great, but have also listened to Manfred and Jackpot multiple times, these three are probably my top 3 currently. I have recommend those to everyone I can get to listen to them. Thanks! Good work Jack!

Alex Schwartz

Many of them, when i see one of your episodes come out I often listen to it while taking a long walk. The stories are great and you tell them in a very engaging way. keep it up!

Hector Wallén

The interview with Mobman was excellent. It is so hard to pick just one episode as my favorite. Black Duck Eggs had a very surprising twist which I will not spoil here. Keep up the excellent work Jack.

Tim Leonard

The Beirut bank job - love it ! hey - may i suggest a topic ? Carbanak !! Just read the Wikipedia page and you'll love it !

Sherlock

The Beirut bank job, crypto wars and both manfred episodes were probably my favourites, but I believe I have listened to just about every episode at least twice so far while at work.

Milymentalist

I listened to Jackpot more than once, that story is just enthralling and very well told. That one together with the Beirut Bank Job are the two I recommend to friends to listen to first (which one very first depends on how technically interested they are - the Beirut Bank Job is fantastic for non-technical people to get interested i think) if i want to win them over to Darknet Diaries.

Ben Gras

Haha, I think the Beirut Bank Job is my favorite. I've listed to it a number of times and always laugh. I enjoy how Jason tells the story. It was the wrong bank!

Action Jackson

I have listened to The Beirut Bank Job half a dozen times. The story is excellent and Jason cracks me up.

Blake

Beirut Bank job had me laughing so hard, I had to stop what I was doing several times! Also Episode 1 with PBX hacking had me a bit lost and confused the first time through, just because I am not up with the technical terminology for all of this hacking business. So I had to listen to that one twice - but that is the show that got me hooked! Thanks Jack :)

Henry Cubel

Would have to say that episode 10 was my favorite. Love all of the work but I have a deep curiosity for Nation State Actors. Thanks for making one of the first podcasts ive been able to binge listen to :)

Kristopher Cullen

I often listen when driving, and more than once I've parked and then just sat and listened to the rest of the episode on my drive, (Finn was the one I was listening to in the work car park). Panic in the TalkTalk boardroom made me have a long(er) lunch, but maybe because I'm in the UK I can actually rember it being in the news. Strictly Confidential was also a uninterupted listen.

theoriginalsjmc

I've listened to them all a few times. Every time I listen I pick up pieces I've missed. I definately had to stop what I was doing during "Beirut Bank Job". I'm a mechanic, and was listening to it when I was putting an engine back together. I was trying to focus on timing it up, but when he started saying "that's unfortunate" I was laughing too hard to get it right. I had to stop until the episode was over. I had to stop and show my coworkers the carna botnet map as well, after hearing it.

Daniel Small

I listened to the Beirut Bank Job, AsusGate and Carna Botnet more than once. Honestly did make me pause in my work (graphic design and print production) to rewind and listen to certain points and sections again. I think the overall subject of these particular episodes just had me enthralled. Beirut Bank Job had me absolutely amazed that people would trust a random stranger simply because it seemed like they were too nice to ask for identification of some sort. Bank personnel who were overly trusting was a shocker. AsusGate was very interesting as i think people need to be better educated on how vital security in this digital age is. The more we can teach people to understand the security concepts and make them tangible the better off we will be at protecting ourselves and others. And Carna Botnet was just something i had no clue about and fascinated me to no end, i would love to see episodes on how this information has been used since it was compiled. How has this idea evolved? Also the information can be viewed visually which really communicates to me much better than just code and jargon so that's also something to look into in regards to accessable stories. Showing people an image with the story goes a long way. Anyways, hope that helps!
