Standing atop the inn, Old Man Tanuki welcomes visitors with a bright lamp and mischievous grin. Courtesy of inspired engineering, the kitchen fires frame him with a halo of smoke. From spring through hot summer evenings samurai and their families are seen enjoying the delectable fare on the deck above the cooling river.

The master of the Smoking Tanuki Inn, well aware that outdoor dining does not pay the way during winter and the rainy season offers less salubrious entertainment and accommodation to the common folk. In the tap room is the stage where, in honour of Tanuki’s famed jokes and revelry, guests take the stage to share ribald jokes and sing coarse ditties. For those who do not wish to brave the creatures of the night, or the permanent residents who rely on the audience appreciating their performances, there are futons aplenty in the hostel.

Here is our first map pack for 2024, the Smoking Tanuki Inn. Inspired by both Noryo Yuka and dive Izakaya, this in an inn for most occasions (including the party meeting each other). 12 maps all up plus 15 assets.
