DAY06.SCENE04 & Explanation For Hiatus

Hey guys, it's been a while. I'm still alive and just finished writing the next scene. If you want to read a bit about what happened, I'll put it at the bottom.

In this scene, the boy comes home, and I'm trying to show a 'rift' growing between the boy and the girl, where she doesn't seem to be priority #1 anymore for him.

I played around with having her walk in on him, but while hot/exciting, it wouldn't fit with the overall plan I have for the story, so I ended up making the scene play out in a way where the girl awkwardly leaves the room.

There will be around three more scenes to end the day, focusing on the girl and her interactions with the boy. I also need to figure out how I want to display the text messages, I experimented, but none of my attempts looked good.

Also, I hate writing text conversations, it's so hard to make it sound natural. Let me know how I managed, and if their conversation is natural enough.

Why did it take so long for me to come back here? I know most of you are wondering this, and I'll try to explain.

As said before my hiatus, the plan was to undergo treatment for my burnout and depression in March/April, and I did (and still am).

I was hoping to have a lot of free time in that period to spend on writing, and I did write, but what came out was just not good enough. I kept trying and starting over, but I liked none of what came out. This discouraged me, and near the end of April, I decided to take a break from writing.

After that, in May, I moved to a different city. It took a while to move all my stuff, take care of the administrative matters, and get settled in.

I started working on the story again at the end of May/start of this month; I reread my previous scenes for the sixth day and read what I had written in April. I still didn't like my writing, so I decided to start over and take a slightly different approach.

I'm not entirely happy with the scene as it is right now, and it lacks some editing, but I decided that it would be best to just forge on ahead and worry about improving/fixing things later when I'm feeling better.

Thanks to everyone that stuck around, and I'm sorry for not coming back sooner. I haven't been active on social media (or spent much time behind the screen in general), so I won't have seen it if you contacted me.

Due to moving to a new city, I have no income. Luckily I have savings and investments, so I'm not worried about my financial situation. Still, my first priority will be to fix my financials, so the amount of free time I have to spend on writing will mainly depend on that and my counseling.

Comments

I think in situations like that, it`s important to keep on going. If you stay away from the story for too long, you lose the touch with the people in it and it`s going to become impossible to continue the story because the characters starts to feel alien and you feel empty when you think about the story. I`ve stopped for a while on a couple of stories I`ve been writing because of those reasons, and it ends up with me not being able to continue them later on, but if I keep going at set times (I had every tuesday from 8-10pm) then I continued thinking about ideas and getting new ideas when I saw something in the streets etc which kept the story flowing. Eventhough sometimes I only wrote a page and a half in two hours ;) Good luck and feel well! Still love the story!
