People made the exact same comments about Dalla Dalla as they do about Gold, too many genres being mixed (Dalla Dalla mixed EDM, House, a bit of trance) but the song was so fresh and new it blew up. Gold isn't a new idea, genre mixing has been going on forever, it's just usually subtle, like mixing r&b and hiphop, or r&b and pop or contemporary or rock, edm etc. Rock and Hip hop have been mixed before (RunDmc and Aerosmith) or Country and HipHop (Nelly+Tim Mcgraw) It's just ITZY trying out new things because they are different, they aren't tied to any one genre. They have too much talent to not see what they can do with it.

They explained this, they are walking THEIR WAY and they sing this first, but they are only halfway to where they want to be. and V is representing half of W and they are only halfway through their journey so they are walking the other half, or their Vay (coincidently V is the roman numeral for 5, take that any way you want)

2024-10-31 07:08:43 +0000 UTCNext time I get VIP tickets to a concert, I'm gonna say that my tickets have VIP-ness XD sorry I cracked up when you said that hahaha This album conceptually feels like it's what they wanted to do with KMD, but were unable to execute the way they wanted because maybe there were some problems behind the scenes (as in things leading up to Lia's hiatus). Cake and Gold both kind of have the same cadence, both a bit silly and kind of all over the place, but solid. Both those songs were juxtaposed with the more serious, emotional songs Bet On Me and Imaginary Friend, respectively. Anyways, this album is absolutely incredible and is my favorite Itzy album now. The BTB re-recordings even sound better vocally. I get emotional a lot when I think about it because it finally feels like they've overcome some giant hurdle that only they know about, and they did it together. There's SOUL in this album. As for Vay, I was kinda thinking the same thing you were. Lyrics early in the song talking about walking the more difficult path, so instead of going a way, they're going a VAY. Like maybe a sign used to say "THIS WAY" but some catastrophe made the trail untraversable, all that remains being a sign that says "VAY". Itzy said fuck it I'm going that VAY anyway.

Fun fact on your theory about V being half of W is that in french, V is prounounce "vay" W is pronounce "double-vay" which would litteraly be V is half of W. Thanks for this review of Gold 💛
