Thanks for sharing. I feel like this is a big part of why we enjoy your content: a real person enjoying the same things we like, who is brave enough to talk about her journey to her audience. I wish you a happy 2024 and I send you a hug 💖. And about your comeback, you know that we'll be here whenever and however that is.

I’ve had depression my entire life, only in the past couple of years have I been able to rein it in and be able to have some control over it, but yeah it can definitely sneak up on you. Being able to identify and rectify is in my opinion 90% of what it takes to get through it. A quote I came up with in my youth, “Depression is when your brain starts telling you lies about yourself.” That’s the negative thoughts and self-attacks we deal with. Knowing that they’re just lies makes them easier to dismiss and refocus on whatever self-care you’ve been lacking. Side note, you said you were wondering if a younger audience would want to hear from a 40 year old, absolutely yes because you’ve got tenure experience education and professional history in the performing arts! Secondly, ain’t nobody gonna believe you’re 40 😂 you could easily pass for a decade younger at least.

New Captain here after lurking for awhile. I first want to say I really enjoy your reactions, always looking for your review of my favorite groups. Thank you for sharing your struggle with depression. I also suffer from depression as well as other physical ailments. Your use of "flare up" is totally legit, depression does run in strange cycles. Being able to share your struggles and get those things out of your mind with people you trust and feel comfortable with is a good feeling. Best wishes for 2024! Fighting!

Wow, I really needed to hear your check-in. I can relate way too much and it's turning into a necessary ah ha moment. Your self-dialogue examples were seriously calling me out, but strangely comforting too. Thanks for being vulnerable while still providing a soft rally to move onward at our own pace.
