No Reason to Cry

"Sooo~, Taylor. Are you ready? Wanna get started?

"No..."

"Awe...I'm sure you're a little nervous, right?"

"Y-yeah..."

"That's okay, adults are nervous all the time too

"Really?"

"Oh you bet! And I've been here with many others around your age and so many of them are really scared, no matter how they act outside. I've even had boys way older than you cry right here before."

"Ehhh!?"

"Yeah! Many times even. That's also not embarrassing! But you're a really brave girl, I can see that. I don't don't think you'll cry at all, right?"

"Uhm....maybe I will..."

"You can of course, but you'll see there is no reason to. You just go to bed and wake up again next to your parents. It will be like nothing ever happened and it's all over. That's it. No reason for smart girls to cry, right?"

"No~"

"See?~ Do you want me to get your sleep doctor for you now, so we can get you healthy super quick and you can go back to your room to relax whilst super proud of yourself?"

"Yeah!"

...

"Does he have a name?"

"Yeah, Berry. From beary, since he's a bear."

"Oh that's clever, I love that! Wanna let him try it first? So he can tell if it's safe."

"Speaking of berries! It has a strawberry taste to it."

"I like those!"

"Haha, yeah I asked you about it when you visited my office, remmeber?"

"Ohhh, yeah..."

"Now, wanna try it yourself? It's just good air and very tasty~"

"Yeah, I wanna..."

"Feeling a little sleepy already? Is the warm milk working?"

'Yeah_...'

"That's alright. You can nap whenever you want now, and you'll only wake up when it's done."

'Promise?'

"Of course! Sister promise! I'll hold the mask here a bit like we talked earlier."

'ookay_'

"Know what to think of already?"

*Mask mumble*

*gentle pule-ox beeps*

"Have you done an aterial line before, Emily?"

"Uhm...only in class so far." *pets the bear*

"I'll let you try on her today, if you like. Don't worry I'll help."

"Oh! I'm off to get sterile, and prep the kit then. Thank you so much, Sarah!~"

...

~Hiss Beep....Biep...Hiss~

...

"Dr. Nishimura is holding the time-out."

"It is now 17:15, OR 8. Patient is 8 year old, female, Taylor Nakao, blood type A+, no known allergies. Taylor is under our care tonight, for an Aortic Valvuloplasty. Patient is stable, sterile and we are ready the make the midline incision, everyone agree?"

Awesome to hear you've enjoyed it so far, though tbh I wouldn't expect my equipment and stuff to improve too much. For me the medical equipment is just a tool to create the scenes I have in mind, so I don't think really perfecting it will ever be my focus. I'm more interested in just bringing to life the situations and the characters I have in mind. With your work on the other hand I can really tell the passion you have for the equipment and procedures themselves too, and I just love looking at it. Always hyped to see you post.

Thank you! But I do have to say that your story so far has truly impressed me as well. There are already a ton of medical details in there and a lot of well put together frames to tell the tale, really blew me away a little bit for it being your first. As for me: Whilst I am getting more and more happy with my setting recently, I do still just look at my stuff and see all the problems or places that are unfinished glaring into my face, so...Still work to do lol

Taylor was also given a light sedative injection before entering the induction room to keep her from panicking. Despite of that, great care is still necessary. Since for the actual procedure is she full sedated, this time will be what she remembers and what defines the experience of having surgery for her. No matter if it is a heart valve, or tonsil surgery the anesthesia induction is mostly the same for every patient. Once unconscious, the more intensive preparations of her body can begin. Among them is playing an atrial line.

I like it~ In my memory of being hospitalized, the operating room was very cold, the surroundings were clean, and the doctor injected me with some sedatives, so I was terrifyingly calm. I remember being able to count to 10, but never to 20 at one time. I'm glad you were able to make the pre-operative anesthesia process so healing.

It's soo good! The effort and detail you put into your hospital leaves me kinda speechless
