How to get a heavy low-end kick

I’ve been reminding myself of some older mixing techniques I used to use a lot some years ago.

Let’s revisit Bob Power’s low end kick technique to give a house kick some extra weight. Will work on any genre.

Try it if you’ve never done this and you may find it can really make your kick feel bigger!

It’s true the DBX160 is real sharp! This technique isn’t that super dependent on the type of compressor, I’d say. Haven’t tried the SBC!

Love this technique, great watch. Also like the Lindell SBC (api 2500*) in SMASH mode instead of the dbx160 for drum parallel . dbx160 sometimes is too poppy & sharp - Have you tried the SBC fanu? its my new favourite for api 2500 clone.

also curious about this. or maybe because it is the same signal it is just a boost?

nice tip! curious if this would cause phasing / clashing in the lows since its a duplicate "sub" added in. would the compression help mitigate that?
