Short studio masterclass #1 (and update/info – read me!)

Alrighty dear patrons and studio minded peeps!

What we have here is an older video of mine that has only been on Youtube so far. However, I have now made it unlisted, so it will not be found on Youtube anymore (only on Patreon).

At one point I started this idea of these "short studio masterclasses" and want to keep them going.

What I do on short studio masterclasses is I go thru several things about a song I have been working on: mixing tips, plugins, songwriting thoughts etc. I think it is a good concept and allows me to present several useful things in one video.

Why old episodes 1 and 2 pop up here now?

I will "move" more videos from Youtube to Patreon, so they'll be exclusive.

I haven't been doing much Youtube stuff, as it's yet another "free" streaming service that only earns me roughly 200 EUR a year – sheesh! – while I could live off of Patreon, so I am keeping my focus on what works well, making that grow. I am too old to offer free streaming hoping it'll earn me something. I massively appreciate everyone's support here on Patreon, and that is super encouraging and has kept me active with new material for 3.5+ years now 🙏🏻

So even though those two videos live on YouTube, they’re not visible there anymore.

Short studio masterclasses – new one coming!

Also, another reason for moving these two episodes here is there will soon be a fresh new one (episode 4), which will drop very soon once we make it to 2024. I’ll wait for a few days into the year, when everyone is back to the usual, before releasing episode 4.

You will also get an unreleased song of mine with ep. 4.

Very soon after this post you are reading, I will also post EPISODE 2 – and there is EPISODE 3 that I have posted on Patreon before, which I am also lumping under the same short studio masterclass tag (do notice tags on posts, which will let you search for similar material on my Patreon: e.g., here you will get all content tagged under Short Studio Masterclass).

Collections

What I will also do on the upcoming week is finally sort material into "collections" which will give a better overview of what I have here: I can create categories, and relevant material will show up under those; I haven't enabled those, but I believe they work like playlists, so there will be collections titled mixing, walkthroughs, studio masterclasses etc.

I will create a post about it once all that is done, so do look forward to that.

Chat

There’s been a community chat feature on Patreon for a while but it’s only on the phone app. I admit I hate typing on my phone. I’ve just posted a test message on the chat as Patreon says the web version is coming soon. I can’t promise to offer much phone-based chatting while I’ll be fine with it once I can rock it in my computer. So only testing it for now.

Wishing everybody a happy NYE! I will prob be working on some music tonight – surprise!

So a new video (short studio masterclass episode 4) post drops next week so see you there!

All good man. I appreciate the reply. I understand! Wishing you a great 2024; hope it’s starting nicely for ya :)

Sorry Fanu. I think my message was worded a bit intensely. I acted on impulse and blurted out from behind a keyboard. Now that I have heard your response I feel humbled. I do know you are a top mastering engineer and I appreciate your dedication to helping others. I’ve been guilty of making assessments on stuff without thinking Properly so many times. I have Asperger’s syndrome so I process comments and social stuff a lot differently than most. I have learnt more about producing music from you than I have anywhere. The free mixing in mono YouTube video helped me and improved my mixes a lot. I re - subscribe quite often. Again. Apologies for the comment. And thanks for all your help. Mark

I have a very, very long history of doing things for free on socials, DOA, different forums, also privately…I used to give free feedback, assist people with their tunes, productions, samplers, so much Ableton help for people hitting me up about it, etc...it truly is a whole lot. Even this very Patreon post is free and public, and there will be some more. I started Patreon when I felt, there has to be a limit to all this free stuff I do and give out. There is a point when you're fine charging for your content when you establish a high demand for your services and expertise. That's the aim for a lot of people, while a lot of fail at that, and they keep their services free. That's how Youtube and Spotify for example burn so many people out (and I've seen that). I'm one of the few who have made it work, and I've put an *insane* amount of work in what I do. It's the culmination of what I started in 1992 when I started my electronic music learning and productions. These days, I work at least 8 hours a day doing all sorts of client work – all music work (mixes, masters, feedback, tuition, tips, consultation etc). It's taken a hell of a lot of work, to put it mildly, to establish the rep for that, and the free help I have done has been a part of that. You should see my DMs on socials. Ppl hit me up about this and that almost daily, and I give ppl little tips on this and that, with the little energy and very little time I have left. Somewhat recently I've sent monetary donations to two starving DNB/jungle artists – fully out of my own will – when I saw they were struggling. Didn't ask or want the money back. How is that for kindness. Obviously that is not something I'd post online. "If you really loved music. You would do it for free also." So I guess I don't love music anymore. That is a very bold statement if I ever heard one. So yeah, all I am saying is...don't judge a person before you actually know them fully. Thanks for having been a patron. I saw you unsubcribed. Any Qs or issues ever, hit me up dude.

I think you should consider offering stuff for free on Youtube. It's called being kind. Like you have been in the past. Not everything you do has to involve being paid. If you really loved music. You would do it for free also.
