Dope old (rare?) funk break sample (DOWNLOAD)

I sample things all the damn time. There's no end to it.
I hear something great โ€“ I will sample it.

I also go to record stores and buy a bit of this and that.
Sometimes I buy records quite blindly just to support a record store, but in hopes of finding something useful.

I just bought a 1 EUR bargain bin soul record with a really crusty sleeve too.
And I found something useful:
old funk break [download] (bass removed with Lalal)
old funk break [download] (bass removed with Ripx)

I want to inspire, so I'll start sharing my finds โ€“ let's start with this.
ID shall remain a mystery for now! ;P

I know there's a plenty of funk-break-loving junglists out there, so you might enjoy this one: should be good for some old-sounding breaky stuff!
But you'll be able to do hip hop with this, too: maybe gate some of the drums so they'll sound nicely short and tight (that's also a good exercise).
(I might actually do a break-making video with this sample)

You'll hear there's some shitty parts in it (there's plenty of useful hits in it though, and I've always enjoyed reconstructing a break from those myself instead of using loops), and the reason is that there was a bassline underneath it, as well as some vocals, but I took them out using Lalal.ai which I find the best system for isolating elements, still. BTW I have made a video about it, and they have developed their algorithm even more since.
BUT seems RipX does a pretty good version with it, too, so I'm giving you both.

I know I honestly haven't heard this before (prob because it had the bassline in it).

I definitely want to inspire, and I think dropping these sample nuggets will be a thing for 2023.
(people on my socials hit me up about breaks and hey I love all breaktalk!)

๐Ÿค” What's next? ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

๐Ÿ“น The most requested thing by far โ€“ after my recent Legacy walkthrough as well as the Dirge break video dropped โ€“ has been a video where I'd actually fully chop a break myself and program a beat with it.
I realize I haven't done this in a long time! I gotta start from the basics and fundamentals, and I want to share all that. This is what I've been doing in private sessions, and I wanna share some info.
So exactly that will be the video for Januaryโ€ฆwhich will be coming your way soon...let's get chopping and talk about what goes into it SOON ;-)

I also thought I might do a breaks special at some point where I'd sample some breaks (which ones??) thru some of my old samplers such as SP-1200 and share them with you.

Hope everybody's year has started inspirationally!

Hey - yeah I think the RipX once is better. Do you rate these tools over Izotope RX?

Ben Hill

Man, I tried taking the bass out with RipX, and I think some parts actually work a bit better with that! Some hits just work cleaner? I used to think Lalal is better, but I do like what RipX does, too, so here's the RipX version, too! https://www.dropbox.com/s/60imx3ibnwsw0hs/DRUMS-RipX.wav?dl=0
