Yo! How's everybody doing?

Have you been staying productive during this crazy Corona period?
Me, I was fairly dang bummed out for a long time – I admit it! – before I just kind of accepted it all and started feeling sort of numb about it, and I've definitely been getting back to it music-production-wise in the past 2-3 weeks…but I'll be honest and say I was out of it for a while.
I hardly ever get any types of writer's blocks, so that was almost the first one I've ever had or can recall at least.

Also had to take a quick week off to recharge as there had been so much audio work due  to everybody sitting more in the studios and sending more music than usual.

Anyways, I'm finally on Patreon! \0/
I felt this time is good as ever, if not the best time to get this going.
So let's build a community and exchange info and knowledge!

I've been discussing music stuff on Facebook and other forums and socials for ages, and the interaction is great, I can say that…its "downside" is that every single time I do a post, it seems to attract these posts on that I call "hey man" posts: they usually begin "Hey man", followed all sorts of free helpdesk requests: here's my song so please comment on it, I heard you're good at mastering so what do you think of my self-master, how do you do this in Ableton Live, what compressors should I be getting etc., how do you use Session View in Live…you name it!
And don't read this in a whiny tone: this is a pure fact. I get these on IG, too.
So, for the sake of consolidating as well as better focus, I felt I need one place for all this stuff, and I just want to use my time better: I know I've earned five truckloads of good karma with all the free help I've given over the years, and I guess I shouldn't feel bad for charging for it in a way or another, after having made electronic music for nearly 30 years and building my expertise, easily passing the 10,000 hour mark or any music degree.

I definitely want to do a lot of free posting about thoughts, just like I've been doing on FB, for example: I do enjoy the interaction and sharing ideas and vibes so let's keep doing that!
But I also wanted to give myself a reason to do more video content and exclusive posts for those with a membership. I feel this is probably one of the best, if not the best, way to run a modern "blog" …and also for a supporter to support a person creating content.

I'm always messing with plugins, audio processing techniques, gear, etc...I always keep a notepad of things I should post / do a video / vlog about…so things are lined up! There's already a lot of stuff in that list and I feel I finally have a reason to get busy with it.

I just want to have a decent place for it all (I do still have  a website www.fanumusic.com though), and it'll definitely be here (free Youtube videos will be here, too, and all existing Youtube music production stuff is on this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLatQOhKHwJYZ7ek0RS3KZlLOPp8OrY_HL

I'll be up for hearing ANY thoughts on the tiers etc…honest feedback is best. And feel free to ask!

I know what I offer isn't for everybody, and I also kindly want to drop a few clarifying thoughts here:
• Audio engineering is my main thing, so the reason my rates aren't ultra-low is I can't bury myself in a megaload of extra work.
• I'm still taking in mixing and mastering as always, outside Patreon, and for that, please use my email fanusamurai@gmail.com.
• If anything is unclear, do ask!

Anyways, I already got good stuff lined up, so…let's do this! Make some noise together :-)

New content coming…soon! Also do let me know what you'd like to see!

Hi HLGRV! "Music production & engineering stuff" is pretty much what the content will be, plus some thoughts + VLOGgery stuff. It is true, also, that it's not so much about plugins (even though they can inspire one of course as well as offer a lot of help) when it comes to *finishing* music, which is definitely a topic I want to do content about!

Hej Fanu! It's great that you are doing this! You are one of the few exceptions of artists that is still worthwhile to follow in today's overly noisy social media streams. Regarding what I'd like to see: production related things are always cool, I like your "Music production & engineering stuff" YouTube playlist, also your Ableton course is awesome. But nowadays I started to realize that it's not more sample packs or plugins that I need to finish more music. :) For me sound design, arrangement, mixing all tend to overlap and it's not that effective. I often get caught up in the wrong work phase and end up in the "8-bar-loop-hell". So not only engineering tricks are welcome but songwriting advices too. :) You seem to be super productive so it would be cool the get some insights also into that. Anything that helps us with a day job & family squeeze more art into our life :)

Oh and I just talked to Greenleaf (the man behind the voice on Shatner Rap) the other day, and he made me some tags for FatGyver use…should ask him about more shatnerism for sure :D

There'll be a lot to say and post in the tips department! There's been a few moments along the years when I've felt, uhhh, this would make a nice example of how not to do some stuff, hehe. Vlog will happen more often too. Hoping for producers to join, so the content will appeal to those for sure :)

DO IT! Honestly, no better time to start anything great in life than right now! GAS can be serious, and I'm not saying it's not nice to get gear that inspires you, but usually that inspiration only lasts so long, and one'll be craving for more (seen this in so many ppl, myself included). But of course there are things to be said about findind and working with actual gear that suits your workflow really (instead of laptop sometimes), and "Why I love [working with] my gear" is actually one topic for a future video of mine! The only real reason for crisis in life is often time management and/or wasting time (totally not referring to you!) Also, I do totally get it if photography fulfills the creative urge; for years and years I've had to admit that sometimes if I have a really good and long skateboarding session, for some reason it can be hard to have a fruitful music session that day…go figure! But may have to do with satisfying creative-ish desires or something.

also, release everything you've got from the Shatner Rap sessions! :D

I would definitely love to see random quick tips. Like "here's an example of what you should never send to a mastering engineer". Random quick vlogging is always fun to see too (skating! coffee reviews!!! :D). Live streams of you mastering some tunes or making beats, if you're up for that sort of thing. Honestly, whatever random thing you find interesting to talk about, chances are good, people here will find interesting too

Vi har det bra, lite kallt vårväder bara! :) You sir are right on the mark about creativity. I’ll keep the door open to trying my hand in creating music, and see where it leads. I do have a creative disposition but I channel it into photography, like you say, just for the fun of it... I totally get it. The last couple of years I’ve had my eyes on all kinds of gear I’d like to put my hands on, but gear acquisition disorder has got little to do with actually creating music (I would just love to have an analog synth (Moog preferably) or two and a drum machine but you are right that is not really necessary). I got 3 years to 50... I never really had a big life crisis before, so maybe it’s time to go for it now! :p

Hur mår du, Sweden! Welcome :) I appreciate your patr(e)onage! Thanks for the kind words about the music. You should definitely work with music: one thing I'd *heavily* point out is that age really has nothing to do with making music, whether it be just starting or being a pro. One should do it just for fun; to me, it's still one of the most magical things in the whole world, after all these years, and chasing that magical feeling keeps me going. I feel creating something that never existed before just feels so amazing. These days you really just need a laptop or any computer with a music-making application and you'll create stuff fast, so it doesn't take a whole lot of resources. Feel free to ask more! Making music might be the best cure for a mid-life crisis, though, right? ;)

Janne Hatula

So... Hey man! :) I’m just here cause I dig your music since I came across your stuff in the mid to late 00s. I’ve had dreams of making digital music but don’t have the stamina or margins in life to give it time or money to really give it a fair chance. Guess dreaming of some things that you really can’t get done for real is a part of life anyhow... So I’m perhaps the anti-“hey man”-dude. :p Planning to just hang around and not ask so many questions. Perhaps one day I will get my shit straight and start experimenting but the odds are low since I’m way past my 40s, can’t even draw the middle life crisis card you know... :) Regards from Sweden
