Regarding Harry, I must say that a lot of people on X factor liked him precisely because of his personality and of course also because of his looks, but in retrospect it was not necessary his choice. The producers knew he was charming and sweet and saw that people loved him so they went with it and made it "extra". As for each of the boys, the management attached a "role", for example Zayn would be the "mysterious" and so on. But later on it really bothered Harry that all the attention from people, especially interviewers only focused on how much he loved women, and how he is a "womanizer" etc. when he's the opposite and very respectful and kind. that became everything he was in the media eye when one direction was happening. He and Niall are both very handsome guys and definitely have amazing personalities in their own ways but I think niall was "left out" of the spotlight mostly because of the producers of the show and their "narrative".
