He had been rummaging through the yard when he found an old book. The cover had no title, only curling patterns. He sat casually by the wooden fence and opened the first page.

The story was about a girl's daily life. She sat in a garden, wearing a light dress with layered frills and lace. The description was so detailed that he kept on reading. It spoke of her long hair falling over her shoulders, pale strands swaying gently in the breeze. As he read, he imagined her clearly, as if she were right there.

Midway through, the book described the girl tightening her corset, her skirt growing more elaborate, adorned with blossoms. She was sitting among the flowers, a book spread open in her lap. She lifted her hand to brush a few strands of hair aside, her expression calm, as though waiting for someone. To him, it all felt natural, and he noticed nothing unusual about himself or his surroundings.

Turning more pages, he read of the girl's world. The garden fence was covered in morning glories, their colors vivid. The air carried a faint fragrance. The descriptions grew so vivid that he lost himself in them, no longer aware of the yard around him.

At last, the story reached the moment when the girl met her beloved. The words told of them embracing with laughter, their closeness filled with warmth. He finished the page and gently closed the book, never recalling that he had once only stumbled upon it.

Now she sat in the garden, skirts spread before the fence, long hair cascading down, the book held in her arms. Lifting her head, she saw the one she had been waiting for coming toward her. She smiled, leaning close, resting in his embrace. To her, everything was as it should be. Nothing felt out of place.
