LGR - The IBM Music Feature Card
Added 2023-03-15 20:31:30 +0000 UTCGreetings and welcome to my last week and a half! From the moment this beautiful piece of 1980s computery goodness arrived I've been knee deep in its musical features.
The IBM PC Music Feature has been on my most-want-to-review list for many years now. But I've been hoping to find one complete in box, and if you know anything about the rarity and value of the IMFC, well... that's a bit of a challenge. But thanks to a trusting LGR viewer sending me this one, the time has come!
It's one of the earliest PC sound cards, a lovely-sounding FM synth MIDI solution with a whole ton of unrealized potential, annnnnd one as shown in the video can sell for roughly $3,000 these days... Yeah. Wildly overpriced in my view. But it sure is fun with the few Sierra games and composition programs it actually works with! And the FB-01, well, that's a bit of a thing too.
My next video will be a review of the annual Sims 4 expansion pack, and that'll be set to go live while I'm outta town at the end of the month. I will be attending the Midwest Gaming Classic convention from March 31-April 2! If you're in the Milwaukee area that weekend and can make it by, do say hi. I'll just be wandering the place, no booth or anything. Never been to this show so I'm pretty stoked!

It always brings a smile to my face to see old Sierra games being featured. When I pour through my old Sierra magazines, it was interesting to see how they were pioneering the early sound cards of the late 80s. While the Adlib and Roland were the more prominent, the next time I install a late 80s Sierra game, I'll need to look closer at the other options.
