LGR Oddware - Sony Glasstron HMD

Tons of you asked me to cover this after seeing it in the previous Thrifts episode, so hey, who am I to disappoint?

LGR Oddware - Sony Glasstron HMD

Comments

Wow. It actually worked better than I thought! Glad they're actually usable (even if they induce fatigue et al quickly…)

Rob Caporetto

why didnt you play the sony glasstron with a ps2 or ps1?

AOL

Outrun 2 is fantastic game. Only ever had the PC version though, OutRun 2006: Coast 2 Coast

LGR

I don't think so! This kinda stuff is just appealing to all kinds since they look so outlandish

LGR

I remember those from when I worked at Target electronics! They looked slick, but yeah, I imagine they weren't great for the ol' eyeballs

LGR

I did indeed. If anything, it made it worse since I couldn't see as well.

LGR

Thank you!

LGR

You missed out on *so*much nausea :P

LGR

Totally, they're worth displaying on their own even without using them

LGR

Geordi *wishes he looked this good!*

LGR

I remember seeing these or some similar device, in a catalog way ago, together with playstation 2. I don't think i still have that catalog, also the company that printed that folded in 2009

Geordi LaForge!

i'd like a pair just for the cool retro cyberpunk look!

Evan B

I remember seeing a ton of these in magazines back around this time. I really wanted one but man were they expensive! I'm guessing I probably didn't miss out on much though... except maybe nausea. lol

Great video!!!

When I worked in retail we sold something similar called MyVu. I remember when they first came in I was really excited, but after 5 minutes with them I had about the same reactions as you 8^) Good idea on paper, just not in practice.

iCach0

Out of curiosity, did you try them without your glasses on?

Kris Asick

These just look so cool, in a very 90s sci-fi way!

Troy Wilkins

I actually used my original Xbox with mine as well, but played Outrun 2 instead.

Evangeline Domenech

Is it weird that the tech in this kind of thing interests me but I have no interest in actually trying the product?...

Those do look quite similar, just with newer tech underneath! And yeah, I can't imagine they're much better. The concept seems great on paper, but for much actual use not so much. Still, they function decently for what it is at least!

LGR

It's nothing short of CHAOS THEORY

LGR

That shirt is nothing short of EPIC.

That cannot be helped. It's the room it was recorded in.

LGR

On another note, Clint, I'm not sure if it's my device (S7 Edge) or something in the video but parts of this upload are quite echoey. I'm sure you already noticed but it's just a heads up before you upload it to YouTube.

My dad had (perhaps still has?) a Carl Zeiss Cinemizer headset, which is essentially the same as this apart from being about 10-12 years newer. My reaction to using them was pretty similar to yours. Something along the lines of: "Oh man, this is cool. I'm surprised at how clear this is!" *2 minutes later* "These built in earbuds suck." *20 minutes later* "My eyes are hurting - better put my contact lenses in." *5 minutes later* "Nope, still straining with contacts in." *Takes off* Shame really, because it's a cool piece of kit otherwise. If dad still has them, I'll see if he'll give them to me or sell them cheap...
