INTEMPERANCE VIII - Chapter 25, First Day on The Job

Sorry this one took a few more days than I thought. I got to experience the wonderfulness of norovirus for about forty-eight hours. Good times. In any case, here it is. Yami tries to settle into her new job and both Intemperance and Celia Valdez-Kingsley start working on their new albums while the paparazzi swarm is still in progress. We're moving toward the end of Book VIII rapidly now. Let me know how I'm doing. Illustrations about this chapter (and a few history shots) will follow.

She will call Celia that for the rest of their natural lives and beyond. That is Caydee's name for her second mommy and it is now enshrined. Jake and Laura will both frequently call her that as well.

JanS: I had thought for many years that my Indian coworkers went to India for a month at a time to make it worth what a long trip it is, but I learned recently that it actually takes that long to get the Visa processed to come back to the U.S.

William Cleveland

I was just rereading chapter 21, and I love how Caydee still says "See-ya" at home because she knows the family thinks it's cute, but she's perfectly capable of saying "Celia" at school.

William Cleveland

I don't think I'm going to get into international travel and visa too much. I will fix the consulate issue in the edit, however.

Al Steiner

Perhaps. I haven't thought it that far ahead at this point. And it's Yami, not Kami.

Al Steiner

You're welcome!

Al Steiner

Yami you mean? And Matt is definitely getting haggard at this point.

Al Steiner

Will fix in the edit, thank you.

Al Steiner

I'm glad it's holding up. I like to think I don't have too much early story weirdness of characters.

Al Steiner

I'm glad I'm keeping up the entertainment. I'm having fun with the more mature and precocious Caydee, particularly in the car with Yami.

Al Steiner

Could make an interesting plot twist where she needs to visit a sick family member and has trouble to return because the US embassy in India is slow to renew the visa or refusing to do so because she might have failed to do something important, e.g. finishing her studies.

JanS.

Ditto. If she is on work visa, she might have to go back to India and to the US embassy or a US consulate there to renew it. The work permit she might be able to renew while in the US, but the visa usually outside the US. The difference is that you need a visa to re-enter the US if you ever leave (vacation, family visit etc). The work permit will make you legal, but still does not help with crossing the border. At least this is how it was 2009 onwards. I guess 2004 was the same.

Caydee’s dialog made me laugh this morning, she truly has become one of my favorite characters. Jake’s observations of Matt’s appearance makes for a foreboding future. Thank you for the latest chapter. I very much enjoyed it

SteveZ

Excellent story. I am enjoying the small everyday parts of a rock star life. Have recently gone back and reread from book one and the story like a fine wine just keeps getting better.

"I don’t know you all that well yet, but I can that you’re a strong woman,.. " I think "see" after can is missing here

Leo Sorits

Tami is going to be a fun addition. The pix really add to your narrative. Matt’s looking old!

Gregory Stewart

Good to read you are feeling better. Thanks for the chapter.

Artulo

Excellent chapter, poses a few good questions for the future to answer. Will Kami, develop the thick skin she will need to deal with the vermin, will Matt have a near catastrophic health issue that wakes him up? Will KIra embrace the music world along with Caydee and Cap? Perhaps to be a core member of Caydee's high school band.

Joe Downey

Should be both, actually.

Al Steiner

Especially the Kingsley world.

Al Steiner

Will fix in edit. Thanks.

Al Steiner

Two small remarks: - p.13 in the carpool section, you mention Celia asking "Why not?"; should probably be Sharon - p.14 near the end: "an acute feeling" in stead of "a acute feeling"

Alle Joeng

Noro's a bitch. Chapter is amusing in that it takes the view of someone who experiences the pap for the first time.

Alle Joeng

Great chapter. I like Yami, but wow is she naive about the workings of the world.

Rob H.

"I can do this, she told herself as she drove Kira back to the house on the cliff." Should be Caydee not Kira?

Jamie

The Indian consulate would have absolutely nothing to do with renewing her green card. Americans go to them to get the initial visa to live in India.
