INTEMPERANCE VIII - Chapter 22, Old Friends

Sorry that this chapter took so long. There was a perfect shitstorm that hampered my production in September. Personal issues came and have now gone (for the most part). This is also, though it might not seem so at this time, a pivotal chapter and I struggled with some degree of writer's block in composing it. I've got my shit back together now though. I hope everyone enjoys this part of the tale as it was hard coming. There is some Matt in here and I addressed an issue that multiple people have been asking me to address. Let me know how I did.

Comments

I find I am missing Chapters 5 -Chapter 15 inclusive; where can I find them to download ? HELP !!!

Peter Groninger

I like that. I'm guessing Eddie himself would not want to come into the US, but maybe his kids would. Thanks for the thought.

Al Steiner

Well, Eduardo Gomez said his kids were great fans of Intemperance. If his kids are studying in the US, then a request for tickets to, say, the next Tsunami festival might be a way to reconnect them.

wulf losee

It will be fixed in the final edit. Thanks.

Al Steiner

What would we hear from him?

Al Steiner

Nice to see Greg again, media could have some fun with that considering the divorce. Still hope we hear from the columbian drug guy who sold his plane to jake.

Mads Nielsen

Looks like my earlier comment didn't take for some reason. Typo. Him instead of hime. “She was pushing forty years old and really wanted a child. But she didn’t want hime to be an illegitimate child, a bastardo. Apologies if this up there in the comments already. But I don't see it. Love the Greg appearance. Good chapter. Cheers!

wulf losee

3 additional remarks: Bottom of p.17: "she didn’t want hime to be..." -> him P18: IFV -> IVF P18: “it must have drove her crazy” -> driven

Alle Joeng

I very much appreciated the Greg, Mindy, and Grand update. Nice to tie up loose ends. I wont mind seeing Greg drop in occasionally, for some reason interactions with him always make me smile. I know its early 2000's in the story, but the polyamorous triple was not completely unheard of then, so a bit surprising that none of the media have even floated the idea.

HAMBARCA22

Have friends in Tampa. Batten the hatches!

Brett Grayson

I'm just rolling with the punches here. At least I'm not about to get double hurricaned like some of my Florida friends. It is, however, miserably, unseasonably hot in my neck of the woods this last week.

Al Steiner

It was fun to write Greg's character again. Maybe he'll rejoin the story in some way.

Al Steiner

Sorry. I'm not technically incompetent and I'm not trying to be difficult, but most of my readers prefer the PDF files. Every time I convert my PDFs over to Epub after being purged of my personal info, they look like shit, with extra spaces, intermittent periods of no paragraph breaks, no support for special text (like Pauline's front door note) or other special formatting. Once I post the PDF files, you can convert them yourself to whatever format best fits your needs as long as you do not post them anywhere in any format.

Al Steiner

Nothing like a good old stereotypical polyamorous triple. Pretty vanilla stuff, but it's fun to write about.

Al Steiner

That would be Rachel, the girl he "hired" to be his girlfriend when he needed such a service in his life. She may make an appearance again at some point. We'll just have to see.

Al Steiner

great chapter Al!! I was wondering if Greg was going to make an appearance... it would make an interesting dynamic. Only one we haven't heard from yet. Her name fails me at this point, but she did live with Jake. She was at a Party with him at Matts when the set the basis for "I am Time"... and of course saw Jake on TV with a girl in Mexico.

Russ Wideman

I hope I’m wrong, but it seems odd for Al to mention a music festival so far in advance unless it significantly impacts one or more characters. I'll keep my predictions private.

Kevin Gates

Yep. Will change in edit.

Al Steiner

Really glad you are well and writing... September was boring... Keep up the good work. Did not expect Greg to show up... He may show up more... looking forward to reading some more

AJN

This was a really interesting chapter. I appreciate the polyamorous representation, even though it's the stereotypical straight guy in a polyfi triad with two bisexual women, it fits with the period it's being written in.

Andrew Single

Welcome back…may all be well with you and yours. Case de Oceano Country Club — “Casa” perhaps?

Rob Law

Looks like you're on it...

Richard Berger

Perhaps Greg will find his way back into the story here and there. He is perhaps the primary supporting character throughout the series.

Al Steiner

I knew where I was heading, but had trouble sifting through how I was going to get there.

Al Steiner

Will fix in the edit. Thanks.

Al Steiner

It felt good to get this one out. Writing Greg turned out to be much easier than I thought even though it was seven years in story time and close to three years in writer time.

Al Steiner

Yep. Will fix in the edit.

Al Steiner

You're welcome. It felt good to finally get this one done. Hope things flow more smoothly from here.

Al Steiner

Will fix in the edit. Thanks. Also, Jake respects and trusts Greg enough not to lie to him to his face. He danced around the issue for a bit and then just told him the score. Even though he has not seen him in years, he still respects him enough to include him in the small group of people who know the truth of the matter. I don't think that's out of character for Jake and I don't think that Celia and Laura will be upset with him for it.

Al Steiner

Welcome back Al!! Great, great chapter. I loved the meet up between Jake and Greg, and I love that Jake spoke honestly about the triple relationship. I think he instinctively knows that he can trust Greg, and that enough time had passed that Greg wouldn't freak out about it. I like their friendship, even though it's been dormant for a long time.

Eric

Good, Al. Like where you seem to be going....

Richard Berger

I download the pdf file, merge it with a master pdf file, and then use Calibre to convert to an epub file. I don't read it on a phone, but the system works for me.

Lawson

Great chapter. Adding "as usual" seems diminishing, but you do maintain this high standard. On p16, shouldn't it be "Macallan" iso "Macallin"? Also, their current offering doesn't include a 16-year bottle, but either 15 or 18-year bottles in the classic ranges.

Alle Joeng

Good to see you back & hear that you're ok. I was having Jay Cantrell flashbacks. Also, welcome back to everyone's favorite yuppie snob, Greg.😁 Thanks, Al, for another cool, interesting chapter with a few great twists.

Adam Driscoll

So glad your situation is good, your muse is still gnawing, and you have resumed crafting this excellent saga!

Brett Grayson

On my iPhone, I import the pdf into Books (Apple’s app) and can highlight and look up words on the web. Plus it indexes the chapters for me. Is there an advantage to epub? I am unfamiliar with it and would like to know more.

SteveZ

Quick typo: after Stillson leaves, he's excited because he's trying to get Ozzy for Thursday, iron maiden for Sunday and then intemp for Saturday and Sunday. I assume iron maiden is supposed to be Friday?

Travis Young

Having been through some life challenges lately myself, I am happy to hear yours are mostly in the rear view mirror as well. Loved the chapter! Your writing and story telling is on point as always. Enjoyed the possibility of a upcoming TSF chapter and really enjoyed how you wrote the scene with Greg and Jake. Thank you for the latest chapter

SteveZ

Thanks for the chapter and enjoyed seeing the reunion. Although, I was surprised that Jake was so open about the threesome. Also, should this be: " If they could do that while Intemp closed the Saturday and Sunday night shows" to Friday and Saturday night shows

Victor

Nice! Such a great story. I feel like I just learned a LOT about personal relationships. Thank you for sharing your writing!! AND that I would NEVER desire the fame to have paparazzi. 😱 I have some problems just living non-famous life. 😉

Philip Lemon

Word has options to take care of that - it can directly open PDF files and the latest version can export them directly to Amazon as a Kindle epub file

Jeff J.

Yep.

Al Steiner

Funny you should ask for this. 🤔 I prefer reading stories in Word .docx format. I can put browser in Reader View on my iPad. Plus, I can highlight words and use the Safari browser “Look up” dictionary. Learn new words all the time! Nice So my Preferred formats are ( in order ) 1. .Docx 2. .PDF 3. .epub I don’t want to make a lot of extra work for the Author, Just my preferences. Several other Authors have standardized on these. I will take what I can get, and say “Please sir, may I have some more” 😉

Philip Lemon

Ok, now I'm intrigued, because on its face, this does not seem like a pivotal chapter. Hmmmm... Well done!

Tim Keenan

Very Well done with Greg.

James Harrold

Can I please help you publish epub files in addition to PDFs? It’s just as easy to “print” to an epub as you do a pdf. PDFs just suck on an iPhone. I can either convert them for you or write up instructions on how you can do it. Keep up the great work! Thanks

Chicken

Gad you are ok - Was starting to get worried! (Real Life Can certainly be a bitch occasionally!)
