INTEMPERANCE VIII - Chapter 13, Foreign Affairs
Added 2024-06-28 01:41:33 +0000 UTCI've been off work for a bit, so I've been able to do a lot of writing, thus the early next chapter. This one continues to build characters and move the story along down its path and introduces a few new dilemmas that will need to be dealt with. Keep those suggestions flowing and keep letting me know how I'm doing.

Nakedplaces.net is my go to for anything naked in the world. For Pirate's Cove: "Pirate's Cove [1] 35.1759N, 120.7160W , located near the Avila Beach community south of San Luis Obispo. Nudity is freely tolerated at Pirate's Cove, making it the safest nude beach between San Diego County and Monterey County." https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1RcjiXt_6i_Jg5EdC6w-n1Z7kwGA&ll=35.180715480219945%2C-120.71331772984976&z=15 The link is to an annotated Google Earth map complete with description, directions and history.

2024-06-29 16:08:41 +0000 UTCYou're not a pain. I love hearing from my readers, but I do try to correct misconceptions when they pop up (as well as acknowledge my own when they are pointed out to me). You are right about grilling most fish. It's usually too fragile for a grill and you have to put it in foil. Salmon can easily be grilled as long as one side has the skin on. The large ocean predatory fish like Ahi, swordfish, halibut, and the rock and ling cods are dense enough that they won't break into pieces that fall through the grate when you try to flip them, and, as long as you take some kind of oil and saturate the shit out of the grill right before you put them on, won't stick either. You have to be careful not to overcook though. Fish cooks fast. This also works in an air fryer if you're too lazy to fire up the grill.

2024-06-29 04:28:38 +0000 UTCSorry to be a pedantic pain. The story is so good that I imagine how the characters are, and it's your writing. I'll have to look into breading on the grill--I actually looked before I wrote and didn't find much. Again, thanks for the entertainment you provide.

2024-06-29 03:53:48 +0000 UTCNow that is an idea I like a lot. I'll do a little research and throw it in there if I can. Thanks for the suggestion.

2024-06-29 01:56:31 +0000 UTCEven given the literary license of geography, the Valdez's new home is VERY close to Pirate's Cove (SLO county's unofficial nude beach). I can picture Celia's father out on a walk and discovering it. Hey, SLO is a college town full of Poly Dolly's.

2024-06-29 01:54:36 +0000 UTCYou're right. Pretty nitpicky, please allow me to retort. I never said that New Zealand did not have good Sauvignon Blanc, I just said he was serving their best chardonnay. Remember, he has not been to New Zealand in a while (see above comments regarding this subject) and is likely out of their SB by this point in the story. As for the fish preparation, my family, when I was a pre-teen and teenager, used to go on an annual deep sea fishing trip once a year in October out of Bodega Bay on the New Sea Angler. Rock cod and the occasional ling cod were what we always caught. Rock cod filets are very dense, as dense as swordfish or halibut. Like with Jake, the only way I have ever eaten them is beer battered and grilled and they were delicious. Writing that scene where they went fishing a few chapters back made me want to book one of those deep-sea fishing trips for Mrs. Steiner and myself, although circumstances have not allowed it just yet. In any case, thank you for taking the time to write. Hopefully you enjoyed the rest of the chapter.

2024-06-28 22:47:45 +0000 UTCTwo nits from a food snob: 1. While New Zealand does make good Chardonnay, it's known for it's Sauvignon Blancs. That would be a more likely NZ wine to open with the fish dinner. (Also, most NZ wine has screw caps). 2. You generally don't batter fish and cook it on the grill. If Jake grilled fish, he might wrap it in foil with butter, garlic, and lemon or grill it whole with olive oil and herbs. I could also imagine him frying it either battered or unbattered in a big cast iron skillet on his side burner. (Easier clean up than doing it in the kitchen). Keep up the good work.

2024-06-28 20:43:48 +0000 UTCThis conversation did give me an idea. Perhaps they can start a tradition of flying to New Zealand for Christmas break? It will be the best time of year in Christchurch about then. Take the whole family, including parents there by first class air. Have Christmas and New Years there, and then come back just before Caydee has to go back to school. Maybe that will happen for the first time this upcoming Christmas. The more I type it out and think it through, the more I like it. I'll just have to consider if there are any pitfalls to this. This is a good example of patron communication leading me down a path.

2024-06-28 20:32:32 +0000 UTCI will keep writing this story until it is completely told or I die, whichever comes first (hopefully the former). And even after it is told, that will not be the last you ever hear of me. I am a writer and I will always write, the same way that Jake will always play music as long as he is capable of it.

2024-06-28 14:59:52 +0000 UTCI think in book 5 or 6 Bigg G said to keep it because Jake loves that house.

2024-06-28 05:20:54 +0000 UTCI see your comments about finishing this story, please go on! You are one of the best at describing a scene, people, a situation…etc! Please keep writing. If you finish this you will be truly missed! I always look forward to you chapters! Pretty much simple as that! I can spout accolades and the h wonderful yu things…but I just enjoy reading hat you write! Please go on! A great ongoing picture of life full of us and downs, by mostly ups due to Jake and his down to earth take on celebrity, reality and the need to accept it, somewhat, and live a great life! He works for it and you show an intuitive spirit and life in hm. Most of these families find a great life around him. Again, great.Tale

2024-06-28 04:57:05 +0000 UTCHe would be very respected by most recording musicians, professional producers, and sound engineers. By the suits, not so much because they always assume that they are the ones who make CDs and albums and individual songs great.
Al Steiner
2024-06-28 04:48:14 +0000 UTCI have been wondering for a while now is Jake respected in the music industry for his producing skills?
James Harrold
2024-06-28 04:22:53 +0000 UTCNope, he has not sold it, nor is he likely to. He doesn't use it much right now, but when things chill out at some point they will likely make a visit. He can also let friends like Bigg G or Andre use the property. Even if they weren't busy, Caydee is in school now so they would only be able to go during California summer break, which is winter in New Zealand. As life moves on a few years, however, they will probably use the house more.
Al Steiner
2024-06-28 03:22:27 +0000 UTCGreat chapter. Just curious, but is Jake and crew going back to New Zealand? Considering all he has going on in California, maybe he should sell it. Or did I miss him selling it already? Huge story!
