Here's my first attempt at a full Dotti strip. I was originally intending to add shading with Ben-Day dots, but it started to look too visually confusing, (what works well in print doesn't always look great on screen) so for this first strip I thought I'd try using simple line art with a bit of bloom to evoke an old silent movie. Dotti lives in a world of doodles after all, so there is a logic to this look, although I'm not entirely happy with the style... I'm going to try a different approach to the backgrounds in the next strip.
In this particular comic, the dark stockings highlight the mini skirts at the end. I'm going to try posing without stockings in the next strip to see how that looks in comparison.
I also sewed two tiny little dotty skirts for this comic, using material left over from trimming the dress. I don't know what I'm going to do with them now... perhaps I should wear them out and about and try to start a new trend :)
If you prefer a splash of colour in your comics, don't worry - I've got you covered with my next character, coming very soon!
