WIPwed: Action Figure Mod - Sasha and Milla part 1

I have an exciting Work in Progress Wednesday for you guys today! I'm finally doing something I've been wanting to do for a while - making action figures of Sasha and Milla from Psychonauts. I'm not even halfway done with them yet, so here is an update on how far I've gotten. For reference, here are our heroes in their natural state. (Image Care of the Doublefine official merch store. Go get one of these posters. I have one on my office wall and it gives me daily joy)

And here are our sacrifices! I don't have a 3D printer or something, so when I start with these kind of projects I always pick a body base that I can build off of to get to my final result. These weirdos have really unusual proportions so I hunted high and low for some good options. Spider-Punk was a little bit more expensive than I usually go for a sacrifice, but I had some help from a really good friend who wanted to sponsor this project and gave him to me as a gift so thanks so much to them <3 Milla is a DC Super Hero Girls Poison Ivy figure I got off Ebay. Her knee is a little busted (which is why she was cheap) but I think I kind of like it, it lets her strike a more Milla-y pose.

They are already destined for each other...

Is this whole project and excuse to make them kiss each other? I'll never tell.

I decided the second step was going to be Making Milla taller. She and Sasha are both the same height at a very impressive canon measurement of 7ft tall (that's true I don't make the rules) so I decided to add some inches to her by extending midsection and adding to her feet. 

Gruesome but effective! I also decided to extend her arms to match her new waist. 

By the way, I'm using 2 part epoxy putty for this project. It's great for models and air-dries solid. I usually use a green version of this compound for action figures but I'm giving the gray version a try. I think I prefer the green b/c it's stickier, but for now, all that means is that I'm not worried about using a lot of the gray stuff. 

While Milla's arms were hardening, I did a little reduction on Sasha using my dremel. I took down Spider-Punk's boots and removed his studs and points. I also carved out Sasha's face b/c he's got a weirdly concave face that I want to build up with putty for scultping/carving. Also the Psychonauts art style gives people bigger heads than is here right now. 

While grinding down and smoothing out Milla's putty additions I realized I put her arm on upside down (oops) so I have to attach it again. I also decided to make Sasha's arms and legs SHORTER b/c he and Milla still weren't the same height and I felt like his limbs were too long for him. Milla's all legs, Sasha's all torso. It was a tough choice though b/c Spider-Punk is so thin and delicate (also he has more points of articulation) but his thighs and upper arms had a wide enough sections to take down a quarter of an inch. It's left a pretty violent looking sight, but it'll all work out. You'll also notice that I added to Sasha's jacket and built up his head. I also added cuffs to the bottom of his pants b/c I want to do their Psychonauts1 outfits. Oh and I grinded down Milla's face... eek. 

And to bring it up to present day, I've reattached Milla's arm and Sasha's legs. We'll get to his arms later after the legs dry.  

That brings us to the present! Developments will be ongoing. Check back in the future for another upate!
