How do I make art? + Octavia Sketch (Fluff)

Right now Im working on Octavia pic. And this time, instead of showing my old arts, I want to tell you shortly about my drawing process. What principles I stick to when drawing and what logic I’m using too.

This is not a tutorial, because in full they would take a very long time.

Main Concept

As you know, for me it is important to make art immersive and alive. So I use a certain logic to generate ideas.

I don't want to draw a pony “that just poses in some space and just poses or shows her lewds.”

I want to draw art that depicts an important or random moment in the life of characters. So that we feel like we're “observing” their life. We see their reactions and emotions. And also we feel that behind it all there is some little story.

For example: A young family moved into a new house, Delta plays the old playground in her homeland or Mare poses naked for a photo session for a photographer~

All of this allows you to make the arts more individual, to reveal the characters personalities through their emotions, environmental details, and a little meta story.

In some ways, it's all reminiscent of the photos we all take. They often capture a rich moment in our lives and serve as a lifelong memory.

Sketches

This is the hardest stage in drawing… since it's fundamental. It determines how everything will go further and how it will all look. I focus on the following aspects during the sketch:

First, I do a very simple abstract sketch to help me figure out which way to go. Sometimes it could look ugly.

Then, a more detailed sketch is drawn which will be more like the final version. The proportions of the character are corrected. Drawing an approximate background.

Line

This is the most routine process. It just requires you to carefully draw the lines from the sketch and do it nicely and cleanly. It takes a lot of concentration, but in the end it helps to make the style more cartoonish.

Color n Shading

Here you need to choose the right tone and mood colors. Also it is necessary that it all went together with the character and also looked plausible with the environment

Background

I spend quite a lot of time in the background, half of all time. It's important to make it immersive and realistic. That it exists for the characters too (the sofa under the hero, the reflection from the hero, etc).

I'm starting to explore a lot of places sometimes in real life and trying to understand some patterns in it. After that I put it all into an artwork.

For example in the art with the Octavia I studied the area around Japan to make a more realistic background

Details

I leave this step as the last one. Since I enrich the finished art with details that help make the art more interesting.

For example, if it's a room - then add things that would relate to the character and their personalities. If it's a forest, some little pieces and all sorts of small park details like restroom signs, small branches etc.

If it's an elegant mare, she carried a bag with the lady things, bracelets, jewels etc.

The details are exactly what make the artwork come alive. When there are a lot of them it's good, but you have to not overload with them.

That's my whole painting process in a nutshell! It takes from 3 to 7 days and depends on whether I change something in the process or not.

I hope you understand now my logic of drawing also that you liked what you saw :D And thank you for your support!
