September 2024 Channel Update – Bracing for Impact

Hi,

Hope you are well! I’m doing Alright - it’s that time of the month where I’m scrambling to do an update again 😂  Let’s gooooooo!

TL;DR

Finished Stuff

Copycat: A story of a shelter cat going through a rollercoaster journey beginning with being adopted by an older lady. This is the studio’s first game and the budgets/limitations/inexperience shows, but narratively it goes to places I didn’t expect it to, so I think it was worth experiencing for that alone. Short & sweet - doesn’t overstay its welcome!

We also had first looks of:

The Plucky Squire: A platform adventure of 2D storybook characters who traverse to the 3D realm. The aesthetics are super endearing and on point. However, I’ve seen from others who played further in that the puzzles and gameplay continue to be handholdy all the way through, so how much you enjoy this might depend on how much you can tolerate that.

Caravan SandWitch: We go on a caravan road trip to find our missing sister. It’s relaxing, looks beautiful, but the dialogue (of which there is a lot) is kind of awkward, lacking in finesse and proper localization.

Current Stuff

Baldur’s Gate 3:  I think I’m very close to the end of Act 1 in the mountain pass area before going to shadow-cursed lands. Still enjoying it lots, and we’ve even bumped it up to tactician difficulty as of today!

Metal Gear Solid 3: The third part of Snake’s adventures! For better or worse Kojima definitely has his own flavor lol, and I think his stuff always has an entertaining edge to it. We’ll be ending off this series with 14 parts so I’ll give more of my thoughts then. As for future MGS entries – I’m probably going to pause until Master Collection vol 2 is out.

Upcoming Stuff

After I wrap up MGS3 I’m going to hold off on anything big, because October is going to be insane:

Patrons+ can share which of the above they’d like to see prioritized in this poll: https://www.patreon.com/posts/games-interest-112754775

Note: This poll’s more of a casual interest check for me to see what you as a group would like to see. I’m likely to get around to everything here eventually, but in selecting the order, I’ll be taking other factors like game length into consideration (e.g. it’s easier for me to tackle a 10-hour game before committing to a 100+ hour one).

Patreon Admin Things

Starting from Nov 4 2024, this page will be switched over from first-of-the-month billing to subscription billing as mandated by Patreon. If you are an existing patron and continue your pledge without pause, nothing will change for you. For new patrons and those who discontinue their pledge but return later, this is how the billing behavior will change:

Currently: You are billed on the date you become a patron, and then on the 1st of every month

Starting Nov 2024 for new/returning patrons: You will be billed on the date you become a patron, and then on the same day every month after that

This change is happening apparently because of Apple App Store shenanigans. You can see the full details here: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/8779192853261-Subscription-Billing-FAQ

We’ve got a few more days before we enter the October craze! As a gamer I’m excited, but as a channel running person I’m also absolutely doing a thousand yard stare right now lol. I hope you’ll be enjoying some great games in October too, whether it be watching and/or playing directly!

Thanks for your support, and as always and feel free to share with me any thoughts/suggestions below.

I would like to see LiS in October or rather November. Also maybe not normaly for you but I would love to see you play the Lego Horzion. Could be fun. And again Unpacked would be a cute small game in between.

Looks crazy graphically! Tsushima was fun so I'm sure this'll be a great time too

Materwelonz

You'll have to try Broken Sword Reforged. You like adventure games.

Flunky Balls

Apple takes an extra cut if it's done through them so directly would be better, but personally it's not a huge deal either way

Materwelonz

I thought that you finished act 1 in BG3 when you beat the goblins lol seems the game is really longer than I expected. I still really enjoy your video so thank you and keep up:)

I agree with another commenter that the enhanced edition Silent Hill 2 is likely still to be quite fantastic today if the remake doesn't turn out to be good, assuming you can get your hands on a PC copy of the game. I don't think it really matters which of them you play assuming reviews are positive, but I do think the game is more of a psychological horror than jumpscare central and you should definitely be able to handle it with what you've played.

Teyhr

Does it make a difference to you personally if we subscribe through Apple versus Patreon directly?

I didn't think that the original Silent Hill 2 was a possibility for you but if you're considering it, I totally recommend playing it first, even if the remake turns out ok. The Enhanced Edition, a package of mods with an installer, brings the average SH2 PC port very close to the original PS2 version, which is really the only good one and the best. It upgrades the visuals a bit to HD definition, for textures and cutscenes, but other than that they did an amazing job at re-matching the PS2 version. These days I believe in the remake a bit more than initially, but honestly it won't be the same and if you play it first it will spoil you the whole story, which is a good part of the experience, that and the atmosphere. And you can still play it after the original to see the difference. I thought about it once in a while, especially since they announced the remake, but if you can play the original (enhanced edition) that would be awesome tbh! :D

If you want something small to do after mgs, might i suggest Corru.observer? i dont think it'll take that long to do.

Quick suggestion for you: I just played a game called Murders on the Yangtze, it's a detective murder mystery set in industrial revolution era china. Kinda reminiscent of ace attorney, but the story and detective elements were great, they also have a demo

Also, an email just popped up in my feed about the Pristine Cut for Slay the Princess, coming October 24th. Looks like there’s another game to add to the list! 🙃

Mikey S

I haven’t seen your thoughts on this yet, but what do you think of the recently announced Ghost of Yōtei? It’s such a bold direction for a sequel!

Mikey S

Silent Hill 2 wooo!!! Even if the remake isn't well received, the original game is a true classic. I'd suggest using the Enhanced Edition fan-version, which keeps things like the original VAs and makes it work well with modern PCs.

There's no denying that October is a greatly anxious month for gamers lol But I'm not concerned as you always end up with interesting games on your channel, so we just have to wait patiently *humming a lovely melody* You're doing wonderful with BG3, your choice to switch to Tactician is an indicator of being comfortable with game and trusting enough to your newly found DnD skills to explore this awesome adventure on more complex level. Happy for you!

Dylan Hearts

October looks amazing/daunting ! Don't overwork yourself and have a great month of gaming !

Naakhurz

I'm just amazed that you've been able to play games so consistently over the years; I'm in a gaming rut myself where I haven't felt like playing anything for the past while. Thanks for all your continued efforts and take care!

Brad Jung

I rewatched your Hades 2 playthrough (looking forward to full release), then decided to watch Copycat, finished it, got freaking sad, now rewatching Hades 1. What a freaking rollercoaster Copycat was. Anyway, looking forward to whatever you'll choose in October, but seeing SH2 would be awesome, although I would probably prefer original, not because of graphics and whatever, but due to original audio - it was great imo, so awkward and just fitting. Anyways, love your vids!

Skipper

I love your videos. Take all the time that you need
