November 2021 Channel Update – Tying Up Loose Ends
Added 2021-11-26 22:49:33 +0000 UTCHey hey,
Blink and it’s the end of the year already! Hope you are doing well with the holiday season kicking in. On the channel we’re gearing down with the big releases and lengthy playthroughs, which means it’s time for a poll soon…!! See the bottom of the post for details!!
TL;DR
- Finished: Inscryption
- Ongoing: ME3, GOTG
- Upcoming: finishing up loose ends, poll
Games Finished Since Last Update
Inscryption (12 parts): Daniel Mullins’ newest oddity, this time focusing on a card game. I’m not much of a card game person but found parts of it quite addicting. Overall if you enjoy Mullins’ eccentric narrative style (Pony Island, The Hex) it’s likely you’ll enjoy this trip down the rabbit hole too.
I also took a first look at:
The Good Life: Newest game by SWERY: an American photojournalist is sent to investigate the mysteries of a quiet English town to pay off her debts. I love how bizarre and hilarious it is (maybe unintentionally so lol) but reviews do mention that later life sim mechanics end up being massive hindrances.
Sherlock Holmes Chapter One: A detective game by Frogwares featuring a young Sherlock Holmes. Graphically it looks great, but from the tutorial area it felt to me mechanically too similar to their previous game The Sinking City, which is to say there are some interesting but flawed ideas.
Moncage: A perspective puzzle game in the vein of Gorogoa or Superliminal: relaxing and enjoyable on a quiet evening. The hint system they have prevents you from getting stuck and seems quite thoughtful as it doesn’t spell puzzle solutions outright.
Progress on Current Stuff
Mass Effect 3 Legendary Edition: I’m at the very tail end with the Citadel DLC before the final missions…!!
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: I’m in Chapter 13 of 17 right now so I’ll wait till finishing to say more, but so far it’s been a FANTASTIC surprise. This game has by far the most voluminous, dynamic and alive team banter I’ve seen in any game.
Upcoming Stuff
It looks like I’ll finish both ME3 and GOTG within the next week or so! The last small release I’m looking at is Annapurna’s Solar Ash, but otherwise I’d like to spend the end of the year tying up loose ends (ie. go back to Forgotten City, LIS: True Colors alternate playthrough). We have a bit of a “downtime” between now and the next busy month (February with Horizon and AI: The Somnium Files sequel), so I think this would be a good time for a poll!!
I’ll be opening up a poll soon for a medium length ( <30 hours) game – please feel free to leave any suggestions you have in the comments! I’ll look back to previous polls for ideas as well.
See you very soon again in December!
Welonz

For what it's worth, it runs pretty well on the PS5.

2021-12-21 08:08:34 +0000 UTCSo for short game I definitely put forward The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes. It is not as scary as the other two or Until Dawn, but it is a good one! For medium games I once again cannot recommend DMC5 or Bayonetta enough; they're both very fun and well-regarded action game series. They take about 10-11 hours-ish.

2021-12-10 19:40:27 +0000 UTCLet me put on my thinking cap for short-medium length games. OOH! The Dark Pictures Anthology has 3 individual stories for it thus far (the Until Dawn folks), this first two weren't so great, but the most recent House of Ashes was actually good! A lot of people including myself enjoyed it. It's about 4-5 hours depending on how you play. I'd love to see you play a little Until Dawn spiritual sequel haha. Also each individual "Book" in the anthology is its own thing so you in no way have to play the previous 2. The more I'm thinking about it the more I'm like HELL YEAH.

2021-12-10 19:30:45 +0000 UTCOh yes, this was an option on a previous poll! Thanks for reminding me of it!

2021-12-09 05:33:36 +0000 UTCI was just thinking about this game when the Switch port was announced the other day! I know the game apparently chugs on the PS4 during later portions so I don't have high hopes for the Switch port lol, but I'm definitely still keeping an eye on it!

2021-12-09 05:00:20 +0000 UTCDon't know if it's still on the radar, but I think 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim would be a fantastic option to consider. It's super well written and probably the most fun mystery game for theorising and thinking about that I've experienced, which I think suits your style well. Maybe with it coming to Switch in April there'll be some renewed interest in it? Anyway regardless thanks for all the great content! :D

2021-12-09 03:36:47 +0000 UTCIf a poll is upcoming I don't want to miss the opportunity to recommend Celeste. Whilst the narrative does occupy a smaller percentage of the game compared to the core gameplay, I find it profoundly relatable and emotionally affecting, with well written dialogue. The gameplay is tight as hell too. 12-15 hours estimated completion. Hope you'll consider it.

2021-12-03 05:22:58 +0000 UTCDavid had a great suggestion with This War of Mine. I really recommend it for a first look, just to get a feel for how it plays and to experience something really different. I know you’re always trying to try new things so I hope this can come when you have a slow week, before the next big games come out.

2021-12-03 05:05:19 +0000 UTCThis War of Mine is something I’ve always thought would be intriguing to have a play through of- it would be so drastically different than I think any other game she’s tried. Subnautica was part of another genre that turned out really well so who knows? I have this feeling it’ll not ever come about though.

2021-12-03 05:03:41 +0000 UTCShe played and liked both Ori games, and they are the same genre as hollow knight

2021-12-03 05:01:22 +0000 UTCWould be interested in seeing you have a go at Teardown, especially as I hear the second part of it has just been released. It's not really a narrative game, but it has a story to it I think you'd enjoy, and it's a lot of silly yet surprisingly deep fun.

2021-12-02 20:00:02 +0000 UTCloved the inscryption let's play, glad you made me discover and lived through the experience I kinda regret not playing it myself but would probably not have been tempted to do so (not enough hyped/talked in my circles)

2021-12-01 14:44:52 +0000 UTCHollow Knight would be great ahh, it's my favorite game ! Though I'm not sure if it's Welonz's style ? Maybe a first look ?

2021-11-30 22:30:47 +0000 UTCThere aren't many people who can get me to drop and do 20 push-ups, especially since I have pathetic noodly arms. Today I found out you're one of them. Actually feels pretty good, thanks coach Welonz! Hope it was okay that I did pushups instead of squats. :D edit: not sure why I posted this here instead of the ME3 video. Boomer brain comes for us all eventually, I guess.

2021-11-30 18:54:37 +0000 UTCWould still love to see Kena being finished! But I see you already have a lot of stuff on your plate, so I understand not having time for it.

2021-11-30 18:16:43 +0000 UTCHow about Myst? It's a classic puzzle game with a recent remake.

2021-11-29 19:18:23 +0000 UTCI only have one suggestion right now, as it's a fairly unknown game and very few LP's exist: MO: Astray. It's a platformer but nothing like any platformer I have ever played before. Has a cool backstory it'll feed you as you play and the gameplay is very unique. The less you know about the game, the better!
Naticus
2021-11-29 00:13:20 +0000 UTCCan second that recommendation, the puzzles are fantastic. I never finished the DLC myself as it was just so damn hard from the very start, but the main game? 👌

2021-11-29 00:11:13 +0000 UTCExcited to join your Patreon, been really enjoying the lets plays since I found your channel (found you from Psychonauts 2). Looking forward to the ending of ME3, I personally always liked the ending and love to see the different opinions everyone has. I can give some suggestions, but I'm new so sorry if they're not all good lol: 1. DEATHLOOP, similarly to Psychonauts 2 it doesn't tell you the entire story by itself, but there it is definitely fun to figure out + Colt and Juliana are fantastic characters with a great dynamic. 2. OPUS: Echo of Starsong, it's probably too short (10ish hours) according to HowLongToBeat. It's a narrative puzzle adventure game. There's no VO, but a lot of text. Haven't played too much, but it's good so far and has overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam. 3. wildermyth, Character-driven, DnDesque game. Length-wise idk, I looked at some reviews and there's people with 10 hours, 20 hours, 30 hours or 300 hours. Haven't heard anything but positives from this game, didn't play much of it myself but seems to be worth looking at. 4. Sunset Overdrive, really fun, but maybe a bit light on the story side for your channel (still worth a mention, this game is heavily overlooked). 5. Chorus, it comes out on the 3rd so maybe not what you're looking for regarding the poll, but it is a space fighter (which is cool). 6. Falconeer, you ride Falcons and shoot stuff for 10 - 16 hours 7. I really wish Patreon would let me change the size of the text box, it's really annoying to only see 1-3 sentences I wrote previously. 8. Jade Empire, Step into the role of an aspiring martial-arts master and follow the path of the open palm or the closed fist. Older Bioware game, but a classic. It's really difficult to run on a modern PC, though (and fixed 30 fps). 23 hours Main + Extra and 35 hours for completionist. 9. The Outer Worlds, It's a really fun RPG. 25 hours main + extra and 37 hours for completionist. 10 . This war of mine, very emotionally draining game for sure, but it's a great character-based game and it shows the effects of war on people. 17.5 hours for main + extra and 32 hours for completionist. 11. Just play the Mass Effect trilogy again lol. There's honestly just too many games to mention, hope at least one of these sparks some interest. If not, I saw a lot of good suggestions from other people here, so I'm excited to see what comes next regardless. And sorry if this is too long, I just really like suggesting games

2021-11-28 23:17:50 +0000 UTCI just finished "DEATHLOOP," which is considered sub-30 hour, though it took me slightly longer to fully take in all the side content and background dialogue. I wasn't sure I would like the 1960s Bond-Villain-Island setting, but (as usual with Arkane) the art, characters, and story really drew me in. If you liked Dishonored, I think you'd enjoy it. That motivated me to go back and try Prey: Mooncrash, another Arkane loop game with some unique gameplay. Also less than 30 hours, and more excellent content in the Prey universe.

2021-11-28 17:18:16 +0000 UTCAs others have mentioned, Talos Principle is indeed pretty great. Also, if you're looking for a bridge to Hollow Knight, there's a Japanese game named Ender Lilies that came out somewhat recently, it's a more compact experience of a similar vein.
BrutusIL
2021-11-28 10:10:08 +0000 UTCI will recommend the Talos Pricinciple again, you would definitely enjoy the story, and I think you'd like the puzzles as well :)

2021-11-28 09:56:22 +0000 UTCRemembered another one: Unsighted - has a very interesting concept, and is quite short. In fact, the game is designed to motivate the player to hurry.

2021-11-28 09:44:10 +0000 UTCKnowing your love of completionism, I think you may be right. Throw it in the poll anyway, I’m sure it won’t win 😬
Krieger
2021-11-28 00:58:50 +0000 UTCI get the impression this will likely be 30+ hours, but I am interested in it too (esp. in light in a sequel coming soon).
Materwelonz
2021-11-27 20:51:16 +0000 UTCI'm interested in both, but with the way I play they are definitely gonna be weellll above the 30 hours mark I've set here!
Materwelonz
2021-11-27 20:50:13 +0000 UTCKitties 😼😼 I'll be on the look out for it!

2021-11-27 20:41:46 +0000 UTCHaven't heard of this - looks like it's got a really interesting visual style. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

2021-11-27 20:40:59 +0000 UTCI'm actually quite interested in Andromeda, but I looked up the playtime on HowLongToBeat and it puts a main + extras playthrough at 60+ hours, and a completionist playthrough (which I guess is what I've been doing for the trilogy) at 95 hours (!!). Maybe this could work if I stick to story stuff and leave time-consuming fetch quests behind.
Materwelonz
2021-11-27 20:40:14 +0000 UTCI've heard some good stuff Unpacking (and ofc Chicory already) - will def keep these in mind! :D

2021-11-27 20:29:00 +0000 UTCDon't know too much about it but I've heard a few good things here and there - sounds like a good one to include!

2021-11-27 20:24:29 +0000 UTCSounds good!

2021-11-27 20:23:40 +0000 UTCNot sure if I am victim of the Patreon spam filter or something else went wrong, but here are my recommendations: Titanfall 2 – while the focus for the game is multiplayer, it has a really great campaign. Cross Code – incredible game, but probably a bit too long. Freelancer – one of my favourite games from my youth (now with an HD mod), but while the story is fairly compact, the issue likely is that it’s necessary to trade or do bounties between missions to build up money to buy ships and equipment, which would stretch the game. Beyond Good & Evil – one of the classics. Machinarium – nice little adventure game with amazing OST. Thief: Deadly Shadows – while it’s the third game in the series, you can just jump straight into it without missing much.
Albolynx
2021-11-27 19:55:29 +0000 UTCStill hoping for Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 0 (which is both a sequel and a prequel to the first one, strangely enough) And to bridge them both well story-wise, Chris's campaign is the best choice
Captain Kashup
2021-11-27 19:15:54 +0000 UTCI wouldn't say it's long, it's 30-40 hour
B11zzard1991
2021-11-27 14:33:53 +0000 UTCDisco Elysium is probably too long, but goodness do I want it.
Evan!!
2021-11-27 14:11:37 +0000 UTCI would suggest to include previous entries in the new poll. Disco Elysium - since it's a game about investigation, i't going to be really fun to hear your theories etc. Yakuza 0 - It can be 100h game or 40h game depends. I finished it in near 40 and it's in my top10 games of last gen. There is nothing i can say to express how amazing this game actually is. It's not perfect, from a game perspective, but i think it's pretty near from "story" pov.

2021-11-27 09:59:53 +0000 UTCHola, Meowlonz! I just wanted to put a game on your radar. Its title is "Little Kitty, Big City". Devs dropped a game trailer a couple of weeks ago. Although there is no release date yet. I hope you'll check it when it will become available, at least for a first look. I think you'd like it! 😼

2021-11-27 08:49:05 +0000 UTCA story focussed playtrough of Mass Effect Andromeda? From what I understand the next game (should you decide to play it) will bring together Andromeda and the original Mass Effect. Might be interesting for you to see, but I don’t know how that will be from a view count perspective or if you may be suffering Mass Effect overload by now. Plus the new game is still years away, so no hurry.

2021-11-27 00:34:48 +0000 UTCI would recommend NUTS! Short, good puzzle game.

2021-11-27 00:00:23 +0000 UTCMy main vote is for Hollow Knight. A true new classic and is also the right length to play
Krieger
2021-11-26 23:37:41 +0000 UTCThis is a short game, but I think you might really enjoy Unpacking for a LP! :D Other than that, I still strongly reccomend Chicory: A Colorful Tale as a story-rich and creative game too! ^w^

2021-11-26 23:11:34 +0000 UTCSince Yakuza 0 and Omori arent medium length, how about Eastward?
A Creative Name
2021-11-26 23:05:08 +0000 UTCI'll throw in the Talos Principle again, should be a good length to play through, maybe 20 hrs?
Krieger
2021-11-26 23:04:35 +0000 UTCIt hasn't been on my radar much since I felt like Ghost of Tsushima ended off nicely, but yeah this is something I'd be interested in checking out! Short/medium length are both fine.

2021-11-26 22:55:53 +0000 UTCI don’t know if this counts as a medium game, but have you thought about playing the Tsushima DLC?
