October 2021 Channel Update – The Wave is Over?

The September-spilling-over-to-October wave is over… mostly!!! Whew, I feel like more great games have come out in last month alone than the rest of some slower years. It’s been amazing but I am also breathing a sigh of relief to be frank 🤣

TL;DR

• Finished: LIS True Colors, Deltarune Ch 2, Outer Wilds DLC, Impostor Factory
• Ongoing: ME3, Inscryption
• Upcoming: … Halloween???

Games Finished Since Last Update

Life is Strange: True Colors + DLC (21 parts): I’ve given most of my closing thoughts in the last update! I’m interested in a second playthrough to check out some alternate choices (a Welonz + LIS tradition at this point lol) hopefully before year-end.

Deltarune Chapter 2 (13 parts + alternate route 2 parts): I’m never sure how to describe this game for anyone who isn’t already into it (Human Teenager And Anthropomorphic Friends Discover Alternate World?) but it’s classic Toby Fox and he never disappoints. Lots of interesting developments here but it’ll be a wait for the next chapters again.

Outer Wilds: Echoes of the Eye DLC (10 parts): An expansion to the story of a solar system trapped in an endless time loop. I am only sad that the DLC came out after I’ve forgotten details of the base game already, but Outer Wilds is one of the very few games I can easily call my favourite, and this DLC is a great, meaningful expansion. Easy recommend for those who liked the base game (and if you haven’t played it yet, DO PUT IT ON YOUR LIST!!)

Impostor Factory (5 parts): The third main installment in the To The Moon series about two doctors helping fulfill dying patients’ last wishes by altering their memories. This one is set up differently than the two previous main games but I think core fans will find it enjoyable. For better or worse it feels the same as the first game did when it came out a decade ago: still emotionally engaging, and still no HD option…!

I also took a first look at:

Kena: Bridge of Spirits: The first game from animation studio Ember Lab, and it really shows: animations are drop-dead gorgeous, and from the first hour I’d seen the gameplay is not too shabby either. I’d like to have continued this, time allowing.

Alan Wake Remastered: The original is a great story but the remastered is clearly intended for those who’ve never played it before (ie. Playstation players). Returning players won’t find much more than graphical upgrades and some smaller references to Control in the easter eggs. (I did a full playthrough of the original just last year here!)

Progress on Current Stuff

Mass Effect 3 Legendary Edition: The last of the ME trilogy!! I think everyone knows ME3’s reputation by now :’) but so far I’m not finding it hard to look past flaws and enjoy it for what is (maybe until I get to the end lol).

I’ll also be continuing Inscryption, the new game by Daniel Mullins (Pony Island, The Hex), which I did a first look of a few days ago. The card game stuff is fun so far but I’ll bet there’s tons of weird meta stuff I haven’t seen tapped into yet.

Upcoming Stuff

I have some interest in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy coming out on the 26th (despite never having watched the movies lol). It’s single player and narrative-driven and I’ve seen some say it feels like a Mass Effect 1. Will cautiously pay attention to reviews!

Other than that I’m not expecting anything major for the rest of the year. NO I have not forgotten about Halloween! I don’t know if I’ll make the 31st date specifically, but I promise I have Something in mind...
