May 2020 Channel Update – Backlog Continuation

Hey there,

Hope you are doing well! (It's kinda crazy how quickly that's become the "standard" greeting nowadays, huh...?)

Over in western Canada, restrictions have started relaxing (restaurants opened this week), but the general atmosphere is still to stay home so not much has really changed. It feels pretty dreary but I'm hanging in there. Wherever you are, I hope your situations are letting up too.

Last month, most of my efforts went towards FF7R so it’s going to be a relatively small update today.

TL;DR

• Finished: FFVII Remake
• Ongoing: VA-11 Hall-A
• Upcoming: Metro Exodus

Games Finished Since Last Update

Final Fantasy VII Remake (45 parts): My first foray into FF7! The story isn’t complete yet but I really enjoyed what I saw and I feel like I can understand why its treated as such a classic. I think this game also gives me more optimism for pursuing other FFs/JRPGs in the future (although, the long play times are still an obstacle…)

Progress on Current Stuff 

VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action: A visual novel of a cyberpunk dystopian bartender listening to her clients’ woes while dealing with her own problems. The gameplay just consists of creating drinks by either following straight instructions or small riddles, but I’m finding the writing quite nuanced and enjoyable. Good for relaxing & vegging out. I’m currently at Day 9 of 19.

Upcoming Stuff 

These past months I’ve been trying to keep a schedule of “one actiony game and one relaxing game to counter it”, and now that FF7R is done I can start Metro Exodus. I reeeally wanted to get to this much sooner, but IIRC its release coincided with when I was playing RDR2/Witcher 3 and it kept slipping away… really looking forward to wrapping up the Metro universe (until the fourth game anyway!)

TLOU Part 2 was indefinitely delayed when I posted the April update but that’s no longer the case. That in June and then Ghost of Tsushima in July will probably be the Next Big Things. (I’m glad TLOU 2 has a soon-ish release date but TBH I’m also kinda peeved how it was basically forced by the leaks – I selfishly wanted a bit more time to hit the backlog… I’m sure I’m in the minority though lol and everyone is happy about it!!)
