July 2019 Channel Update – Sluggish Summer Season

Hey everyone,

The hot summers of July are upon us! 🔥 I hope tons of you are having fun vacationing halfway across the world or something, but for as for me...... Surprise!! I'm gonna be playing video games l o l

TL;DR

• Finished: Outer Wilds, Sea of Solitude
• Ongoing: Witcher 3, The Sinking City, Judgment
• Upcoming: Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus,  Youngblood

Games Finished Since Last Update

Outer Wilds (20 parts): An open-world space exploration experience about learning the mystery behind the universe being trapped in a time loop. Far less of an explicitly driven narrative than 95% of games I play but no less wonder-inducing.  I don't want to hype it up too much, but this game has evoked some emotions for me that no other game has and is pretty squarely my GOTY so far. Highly recommend playing yourself first if possible – it’s one of those games where you can never get another “first time” in.

Sea of Solitude (4 parts): A 3D puzzle platformer of a woman’s journey through her own loneliness – think GRIS, RiME, or ABZU. Visually/aurally appealing and technically impressive (zero loading screens). There are some weaker areas (e.g. voice acting) but an overall enjoyable experience.

Current Stuff

Witcher 3: Continuing through the Blood and Wine DLC.

The Sinking City: A Lovecraftian detective game. Interesting lore investigation mechanics, but also unpolished and janky in many aspects. Currently on Main Case #4 of 9.

Judgment: My first foray into a RGG studio game, also a detective mystery game but with a larger focus on presentation with the story mostly told like a TV series via directed cutscenes. Currently at Chapter 3 out of 13.

I’ve taken on a little more than I can handle (as usual lol) with 2 longer titles, but I do expect The Sinking City to finish up within the month.

Upcoming Stuff

I’m running a little behind but I will be getting to Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus veeeery soon, and then hopefully Youngblood which comes out on the 26th.

New releases have pretty much ground to a halt in the summertime but I think I’ll have enough to keep me occupied for the next bit anyway. There’s a lot of AAA titles on the channel right now so I’m really aching to balance it out with some indie titles as soon as I can.
