Exclusive Rotary Preview
Added 2022-12-01 08:49:01 +0000 UTCHey guys, it's really late right now (I've been putting in some serious overtime to get this done) but I wanted to share some exclusive updates with you. The rotary engine works! The audio is a secret right now since it's not ready yet but I'll say this: it actually sounds good... I'm really excited for the upcoming video and I hope you guys like it. In case you didn't know, all active patrons (at the time of the video release) will get early access to rotary/Wankel engines before the general public!
Another update, after Canada Post finally figured out how to be a functioning mail service and un-lost my package, I received my miniature steam engine from stirlingkit.com! They have generously offered to sponsor a future video where I'll demo the engine and try to replicate it with software. While I haven't had a chance to try their products yet, they have given me an affiliate link. If you guys need a gift for Christmas or want to buy a miniature engine for yourself, consider using this link https://www.stirlingkit.com/?ref=K1aa6IgJ and using my coupon code AngeTheGreat to get 10% off! (Disclosure: I do get a small commission for every sale made)
Anyway, that's all the shameless advertising I'll be doing for today. Thanks for the continued support everyone!

This is so sick. Great work Ange!! Next step; forced induction?

2022-12-05 00:28:04 +0000 UTCIt's amazing how far the simulator has come, honestly. It's a really awesome to see Rotaries finally be a thing. :)
2022-12-04 21:11:34 +0000 UTCDude this is awesome - all that hard work pays off. Looking forward to listening to her fire up! Thanks Ange!

2022-12-01 14:32:51 +0000 UTCI am planning to do something like that. I suggest watching the pinned video on the Patreon page to see a short video where I explain my vision for the game.

2022-12-01 14:20:53 +0000 UTCNice man. I'm just waiting for the steam game where hopefully there will be ui to customize the engine instead of me having to re-engineer code. Is that something you plan on doing for the steam release?

2022-12-01 12:43:58 +0000 UTCTell me about canada post π I had ordered a mini pc for my 3D printer and it took them 2 weeks over the scheduled delivery

2022-12-01 11:45:34 +0000 UTCHave you considered implementing the liquid piston technology in this sim? It's functionally similar to a rotary. It's so cool to see rotary engines in this sim! I'm excited to hear the audio

2022-12-01 10:05:49 +0000 UTCI'm kind of just playing around with the placement right now so they're nowhere in particular. There are some interesting effects of moving them around though. The way they're positioned in the video has the exhaust port advanced and the intake port placed just far away enough to avoid excessive overlap. I need to do a bit more research to get these placements right though.

2022-12-01 09:28:50 +0000 UTCI notice that the intake and exhaust "valves" have an unsymmetrical placement. Is there any advantage to this?

2022-12-01 09:25:36 +0000 UTCRob dahm intensifies But no, in all seriousness, this is damn impressive, I have no idea how you managed to pull this off with how different these are from normal piston powered engines

2022-12-01 09:00:33 +0000 UTCDamn, sounds like a lot of work, glad you could figure it out, thanks!

2022-12-01 08:58:41 +0000 UTCA lot of math and a lot of pain and suffering apparently... But to answer the question more directly, it's conceptually the same as displacement in piston engines which is the swept volume. So basically, you take one of the 3 rotor faces, you find the point in the cycle that the volume in that compartment is largest and smallest, and the difference between those points is the swept volume or the displacement of that rotor. You then simply multiply by the number of rotors in the engine.

2022-12-01 08:57:05 +0000 UTCExcited to see the limits of rotaries! just one question, how is displacement calculated for a rotary? Iβve never looked much into them, thanks in advance!
