A beautiful discovery
Added 2022-11-23 21:55:11 +0000 UTCI fell a bit in love with the idea to print the very first Black Roses Vintage Casino deck in pink with my minimalized court cards. I know that the color is certainly not everyone's cup of tea but maybe that's why I like it even more. Feel free to let me know what you think.
To get inspiration for the "ad-cards" of my casino decks I like to google the ad-cards of old casino decks. This way I make sure to really capture the vintage vibe. After a while I came across these two images.
I'm blown away by these two borderless cards.
The first generation of the Golden Nugget Playing Cards (approx. 1961-1965) come with a single blank card with this Bee brand allover back design (Bee Back No. 32). The purpose of providing this single card was that it was to be used as a cut card.
I tried to find more information about this back design. Couldn't find anything!
So I contacted USPCC. Response from their Ctp department: "I've never seen that back before..." You tell me, isn't that funny?
I've spent the whole day today to redesign the back. Here is the result.
There is only a tiny problem. USPCC's legal department have to approve this for reproduction "as it is a casino related back design".
Even though I designed my own version - so of course it's based on the original design, but still different from the placements, size and shape of the patterns - I don't want to risk it to print it without their approval. But since they're all already on vacation, unfortunately I have to wait until next month.

I even have some borderless designs already on my computer but other ideas have priority right now. I want to give every deck enough space to breath :D It never feels right to rush things.
