Something I think you got wrong: Granby is not a blue-collar small town on the plains of CO.,; but is in fact along the lines of Aspen, CO, or Telluride, CO. It's where successful people buy expensive homes with beautiful mountain views, often with a lot of acreage tacked on. I've been to both of those towns and, to be sure, they are very nice, and very expensive places to visit, much more so to live. So this guy, with two successful businesses, most likely was a very intelligent man, and definitely knew how to do business (to be fair, that doesn't mean he was necessarily mentally sound). I've been on HOA's before. If you want a small taste of the extreme pettiness of mankind, try sitting on one for a full term; I've never made it, myself. I've seen things I've worked on get voted down, only to get put up after I left. I will never buy a house where one exists again. I was living in CO at the time this happened, and even here we never really got a full story. In fact, kudos to DK and Shy, this is more than I've heard before.
