Status Update - August 2023
Added 2023-09-02 13:38:16 +0000 UTCHello. This month I was mostly busy with archiving my old covermount CDs and trying out random demos, but I also released a widescreen fix for a PS2 game.
007: Agent Under Fire (PS2)
The current widescreen fix shipped in PCSX2 was underwhelming and didn't cover the driving sections of the game at all, so I made a better one. It's currently shipped with PCSX2, so all users benefit from these improvements.
Blog updates
I usually don't announce changes to the blog layout, but this one is worth a mention. Aside from making the embed sizes more consistent, I added a table of contents to bigger mod pages - give it a try at https://cookieplmonster.github.io/mods/!
PCSX2
- GameList: Support adding custom titles and/or regions to files - a PR adding an ability to rename game entries freely. This is useful for customized ISOs, such as Gran Turismo 4 Randomizer.
- GameList: Add an option to exclude entire directories - a PR expanding the "Excluded Paths" feature with an option to exclude not only the individual files but also directories.
Other experiments
If you follow me on Twitter, you might have noticed that I'm recently posting more about demos of old racing games. I've been going through some of them as I preserve my old gaming magazine CDs, and leaving trails of this research on PCGamingWiki pages of their respective games. I also mirrored downloads of some of those demos on PCGamingWiki - so you can give them a try yourself!
This raises a question I've been considering for a while - would it make sense to compile these random experiments into a "docs" style blog post? It's something I've considered doing, but haven't had a good excuse to do so yet - blog posts that don't cover an individual topic, but are rather an "exploration" of a single game or a series of those. Visually those would be identical to normal posts, but I'd give them a new category named "Research", so they'd be easily findable in the Categories view.
