With how much you guys loved this, the show is equally as funny if not more.
There's so many lines from the movie and show that I regularly quote in my day to day.

I'm so glad you guys watched this movie and will be reacting to the series. The show doesn't have precisely the same tone/vibe, but it ends up being great in it's own right.
Taika Waititi, who directed this and played Viago, also directed a movie called "Hunt for the Wilderpeople." I think you guys would dig that one too.

It'd be nice but the movie is not the same characters as the show so it isn't really essential.

I usually like a blind reaction to shows and movies as well. This show just has so many good jokes about the lore I hate for them to miss them. I felt there were a few great references/jokes that they didn't get. Hard to get into it, though, without spoiling jokes and other movies. I think of the diner scene in Space Balls if someone hasn't seen Alien, they don't realize how great that scene is. Should be a fun time regardless.

You know, us Brits have contributed our fair share of bad stuff to the world. A lot of colonization, a few genocides give or take depending on your definition... beans on toast.
But also Matt Berry, so it all kinda evens out.
edit -
Oops, never even realised this was a movie, I think I remembered hearing about it but thought it had Jonny Depp in it, which turns out to be a completely different movie called Dark Shadows.
Which also didn't have Matt Berry in it.
A horrible mistake repeated far too often.

great minds think alike. we've been talking about hitting some classics like interview, dracula and blade. I do think, arianna is at least familiarish with anne rice overall who is kinda the st peter of vamp stuff.

I disagree. The tv show is great, and I usually HATE anything vampire related.
And I always recommend going in blind with shows and movies anyway. No surprises if you do too much research beforehand.

The show is great I can't wait. However, the show is very "inside baseball" in terms of vampire movies and lore. If you can watch a few vampire movies before starting the series, you will get so much more out of it. The inside jokes are amazing in the series, especially since Maple hasn't seen much Vampire stuff.
- Shadow of the Vampire, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Lost Boys, Blade, Interview with a Vampire, even Twighligt.
Pick a few you will love the series more.

Another amazing show is Our Flag Means Death. Feels like a mix of What We Do In The Shadows and Ted Lasso.

Also, if you guys haven't seen it, I'd highly recommend the show Flight of the Conchords (either for here, or just on your own time). Hilarious show with fantastic music. Jemaine Clement is one of the stars (along with Bret McKenzie, who won an Oscar for Best Original Song in the 2011 Muppets movie), and Taika did some writing/directing on the show.
Side note: my wife and I saw Flight of the Conchords when they went on tour in the US abotu 10 years ago, and it was the best concert I've ever been to, no joke. So much fun, and Jemaine and Bret are just so good on stage. And their music genuinely slaps.

They mention in the reaction, they'll be doing the show. I'm guessing it'll be the Lasso replacement, perhaps?
This also reminds me, I need to check out Wellington Paranormal as well (for those who don't know, it's a spinoff about the two cops in this movie).
I also really hope they make the spinoff/sequel movie they've talked about, "We're Wolves." But looks like that one is stuck in production hell.
