May Episode Two - Civil War

A country divided! Brother against brother, mother against son, sister against nana! No, it's not Thanksgiving at our relatives' house...folks...it's our review of Civil War!

Comments

Lol at joe as usual. "If I'm supposed to respect a 18 year old's opinion, then why can't I fuck them!"

Kerouac

I realize I’m responding to an older comment. But Joe is a centrist. Libertarian vibes sometimes. Democrats and Republicans both work in the interest of Capital. Obviously conservatives are more damaging for our future.

Logan Dotson

More dumbass bothsidesing from Joe, who should make an attempt to educate himself if he really thinks democrats and republicans are the same.

I would love if every episode you guys had a character actor that you would have to swap a role for another actor. For example I think Richard Kind would be better in the role of Bill in the movie Kill Bill. Or a segment where you outline a character actor who stole the show.

Don’t worry Alec, it’s unloaded

Really did not like this movie..a couple days before seeing it I read a quote from Garland saying that he was done directing, which had me a little worried going in. Thought it had a couple really great scenes, and liked Joe’s thoughts on it, but still don’t think a rewatch would make this any more entertaining.

RIP Dabney Coleman

Lee Ellis

I have one small complaint. I’d like more cat talk / cat updates than we’ve been getting, please 🐱👍🏼 everything else is great

Kristin

Yes! Just watched this. It was great. A tight, 90 minute one location thriller. And I love all things Jim Cummings. Also, the writer/director of this will be doing an Evil Dead movie next.

Ricky Coogan

Arcadian? 😃

Dirk Overton

Fellas, please consider The Last Stop in Yuma County. It's like Tarantino/Coens via Twilight Zone. Super fun. Edit: Holy shit, this is the director/writer's first movie

Luke P

Godzilla Minus One would be a cool movie to review!

I really enjoyed Civil War. I thought it was very well done with some good performances and man does it have a great soundtrack. Also i truly think the final sequence is one of the most jaw dropping and surreal finales I have ever seen. Couldn’t help but laugh out loud at the reveal during the end credits.

As the (beloved ha ha) Dave Matthews Band sang..."So much to say so much to say" This movie was a BIG Bait and switch. Ex Machina is a Masterpiece. I am also the rare person who loved MEN. (I can hear the sound of me losing credibility...) I WISH Alex G would have been a little more clear what this movie would be. EXAMPLE: Soft & Quiet did the opposite. It gave you a preview of ladies meeting then BAM it gave the reveal and then didn't stop assaulting the viewer with terror of how seemingly normal women could be as bad as the worst male villain you could picture. Civil War was a road trip movie that used WAY TOO MANY TIMES IMO the "click" look we took a picture. Click we took another picture. I was like "we get it, they're photographers and good at their job" I can't believe they'd really let the girl and older guy "tag along" knowing how much danger could be on the road. And that Footloose scene jumping car to car. OMG. It was so unnecessary. "hey look! we can have fun on the road" woo hoo. The president would have been in a bunker and not just chillin' waiting for people to kill him. AND it was SOOO obvious Dunst would get killed and the girl would take pics of her. On Joe's review i will certainly watch it again, but the only thing I loved about the movie was the margaritas I had while watching it in the theater. HAPPY to get the new eps so early and always look forward to every ep. Thanks to the WSYIH crew for keeping up the great work.

I've never felt so validated ily patty, MEN was hot steaming trash. I wasn't crazy about Civil War i think they left it way too vague. Just felt like a road trip with not a lot of substance.

Lush Render

Love Joe's take on Civil War. Film really resonated with the theme of detachment.

Ethan Haylock

I also liked this quite a bit but also understand the critiques

Brayden Love

Love hearing that Joe enjoyed The Phantom Menace in theaters. It feels like I rarely hear anyone say good things about Star Wars anymore.

test

I’m with Joe on this one

I'm with Patty, I found it hollow, clunky, fairly formulaic and above all just not entertaining. It felt just about as genuine as the Red Dawn remake. I didn't like any of the characters either & never bought their past "shared experiences". It had me wondering, had the war been going for a fortnight?..maybe? .max. I like when it was noted there's nothing at the cinema, this woulda been a great streamer. *can see why Garlands getting out of the game!

I was totally blown away by the LIVE roast on Netflix! It helps if you’re a football fan, you’ll understand a lot more of the jokes. Kevin Hart was insane and funny for once. The football players were actually very funny. The jokes were absolutely filthy, I couldn’t believe it was on Netflix! The crowd was great! Nikki Glaser had the best roast of all time. This is how I remember roasts were back in the early 2000s: filthy, funny, very mean, very uncomfortable. I mean we had Kevin Hart yelling that he had guns (metaphorically) in the Kia Forum! Netflix took a big risk and it totally paid off this thing was huge.

I thought Jesse Plemons’ “rose-colored glasses” were symbolic of how a violent psycho would feel very comfortable in a civil war. I loved the movie. It was all a big satire of the press. Very heavy on symbology. One example is after the bomb kills dozens of innocent people it cuts to a bunch of journalists celebrating at a bar and doing shots! Then Kirsten Dunst is bitching about the wifi and not being able to use the elevator. Later we literally see a big white SUV with the word “PRESS” on the door drive over the corpse of a soldier. This movie also had incredible sound effects.

“The male “gays” changes” lol I was just as confused as Joe for a second there

Totally agree with Joe when it comes to the discussion about the Miller’s Girl article. And it’s run rampant in today’s society. A big one being that black people cant be racist. Racism is racism, and the systemic argument is bullshit. A disturbing amount of people today are so hypocritical and as Joe said, talk out both sides of their asses. Justifying certain situations as being ok for whatever bullshit reason, but the calling essentially the same situation ok under superficial circumstances. Some people might say it’s ok for a man to be 15 years his girlfriend’s senior, but it’s suddenly weird and wrong if the woman is the one who’s 15 years older. Or that men should make more money, even though we’re well past the days when women entered the working world and they are given very comparable salaries to men, especially this day and age. Democrats trashing republicans and calling them horrible names, then turning around and preaching tolerance for everyone. It reeks of inauthenticity and virtue signaling. If I had to say my two biggest gripes with society and why it sucks these days is how wokeness is a virus that creates more hate and racism, and the contradictions and hypocrisy evident in a disturbing amount of people. With Joe on this one and it pisses me off just as much.

Haven’t started the pod yet. I was very underwhelmed with C Dub. I can’t remember a lot about the movie which leads me to believe I disliked it? Right?

Kramer Vickaryous

I don’t get the love for Civil War…I saw it in a packed theater and I don’t think a single one of us left having much good to say about the movie…could’ve cared less about any of the characters so it just felt like watching random shootouts and torture shot to music like Pat said
