April Episode Two - Road House (2024)

Bar brawls! Thugs! Drunks! And, of course, Jake Gyllenhaal! No, we're not talkin' 'bout an average Tuesday night at Joey Roses! Folks...it's our review of the new rendition (reboot? remake?) of Road House!

A perfect movie.

One of the dumbest movies I’ve ever seen. They can’t even do one liner quips right. Macgregor is like an over-the-top cartoon villain.

Shmomar

I spit out my coffee when I heard Joe say that lol.

That old man must have known how foul Proper Twelve is.

KT1000

Macgregor made his own whiskey. He poured a shot and offered it to an old man in a pub in Ireland. The old man said no thanks. Macgregor sucker punched him in the head. Real nice guy. What’s real amazing is how well the old man took the hit. He doesn’t fall off his barstool. He acts like nothing happened. The headline was “Old man turns down cheap shot only to receive another.”

Michael Whitsett

A suggestion, if I may: I’d love to hear you guys review Severance & I think you’d enjoy it! 😀 (Same with Yellowjackets but that’s more of a time commitment.)

Kristin

“Conor McGregor seems like the nicest guy in the world” - Joe “seems like he’s not the type of guy to drink alcohol“ Derosa

Travis Leivo

U guys hear about the new podcast? "Whatcha eatin' with Wil wheaton?"

Movie stunk too

Perfect description my guy. I had an internal debate on how to show my Mom this movie. In every scenario it ended with her yelling “why did you make me watch this.” She loves good flicks but this movie is like a disease that curses the next person that views it. I knew she’d go insane trying to tell others about what she’d seen and how they must watch it so I came up with a compromise. I loaded the Wiki page and literally explained scene for scene what the movie was about. We got to the end about 30 minutes later, and my mom’s jaw dropped. She scrambled to make sense of what she had heard and sighed in what was not relief but almost an acceptance of the circumstances that played out. Now, would it have been better for her to watch it? Absolutely. But how many movie plots do you know of that can be explained with the same impact as actually watching the film?

Nick Gonzalez

I went into it with only the vaguest description of what the movie was about so suffice it to say I’m still in shock by what I just watched. Like most of Villeneuve’s work it’s expertly made and incredibly well acted but holy shit is it a gut wrenching experience. Definitely gonna be a tough movie to recommend to others. I have a feeling this movie is gonna stay with me for days but for the moment I just gotta figure out how I’m gonna go to bed with the thoughts that are swirling around in my head.

Zero throat rips = zero stars.

He doesn’t spoil anything. But my point was there’s nothing to talk about without spoiling it. Glad you’re gonna watch it though, come back and reply with your thoughts. I need to watch Enemy again. I remember it feeling like the Conversation. But then obviously the ending made me go “wtf I need to watch this again.”

Nick Gonzalez

Thanks for the heads up. Hadn’t seen any of Villeneuve’s movies that came before Enemy and Incendies was the one that sounded the most intriguing. Guess I’m throwing that on tonight!

KT1000

I was so excited to hear Pat talk about Incendies. I’ve been patient since I saw his Letterboxd. Then I realized……you can’t talk about this movie at all without spoiling it…..lol
