March Episode Three - Poor Things

It's Oscar time! Or at least it just was! So we're discussing one of the flicks that was blessed RICHLY with the little trophy...Poor Things! To quote the Joker, "This town needs an Emma-na!"

Bree, criticizing a black actor’s performance is nothing to feel bad about lol. It’s not like they should get special treatment. Nor should any race. It doesn’t matter. Why do people focus on it so obsessively these days? It actually is racism to do so.

Doesn’t matter whether he’s black or not, it’s about the performance. This isn’t totally directed at you, but I hate all the focus on race and tiptoeing around eggshells lately. Like it’s racist to criticize a person who’s black. But it’s ok to criticize a white person? It’s just weird and ironically, kindof racist. Treating people differently because of their race. Ok rant over lol.

not really based on anything but did the fish eye expand as her world view widened? Was the Light House shot tall and skinny like a light house? Possibly...maybe. I loved Poor Things (my movie of the year) but didn't think of Gilliam exclusively, I also felt a bit of Jean Pierre Jeunet, but thought it was enough of its own thing too. I hadn't thought about the voice choice, I guess it's just accepted as the "Frankenstein/Cave Man/Native American" throught movie history much like a Zombie or traditional Vampire.. maybe it's time for a change but I reckon baby talk for ½ an hour would be pretty awful too. Wonder if this new wave of Franky flicks will mix it up??

felt the same way but i saw jerrod in an interview the other day was disparaging of his own performance so don’t feel too bad

Live Show Halloween Vegas Get your shit together boys and make it happen!!

Matt Holton

How bout getting Patton Oswalt on as a guest? That’d be fun. He wrote a cool book on his love of movies called Silver Screen Fiend

I vaguely remember an early ep of Seinfeld where Jerry takes Kramer’s key away from him. Then at the end of the episode Jerry goes “here” and tosses it back to Kramer. I always thought “this is oddly heartfelt for this show.” But it’s the only moment I can think of.

Edmond Aggabao

“From there, Willem Dafoe, who’s like an old crazy inventor with like a weirdly disfigured face. Who burps, uh, large, in tact, animated bubbles for some reason. Didn’t quite follow that.” Shouldn’t have laughed as hard as I did. ❤️😂

Kramer Vickaryous

Did Joey roses real claim that Anakin should have had a Star Wars British accent lol

Zach Gyngell

The racial term “cracker” doesn’t mean a boring bland food. It refers to the people who cracked the whips. Fun bit of trivia for ya

Aj

Couple big points from the fellas that I thought and they brought up. Poor Things is so Terry Gilliam and Jerrod Carmichael just felt unneeded. Hate to say that as well since he’s the only black character, yikes

Roofullo 😆

I don’t even watch Curb, but I found your conversation about it to be engaging from beginning to end. And I love the Poor Things review. This is a top tier episode.

A full episode or bunch of episodes covering Seinfeld as a whole series would be a blast. It’s the best

Raffi N

I found Poor Things pretty funny throughout which I think helped me settle in to the visual settings and tone. Ruffalo was hilarious

Side Sallas

“I’ve never seen Ruffalo play a prick before” EXCEPT IN REAL LIFE……FOLKS

Michael Patrick King invented "soooooo"?
