August Episode Three - The Super Mario Brothers Movie
Added 2023-08-03 14:38:43 +0000 UTCThe boys review The Super Mario Bros Movie. No, not that one! The good one! Sort of. But which one is that? Guess you'll have to tune it to find out!

I don’t know how often the half speed playback feature is utilized here but my god. Listen to an episode or two. It’s insanely funny and sounds like the boys are black out drunk 😂😂😂😂

Pat says the Mario movie feels like you’re watching someone play the game, which is boring. But so many people love to watch others play games via twitch/ YouTube. That’s a huge form of entertainment where Joe and Pat may have a blind spot. Do agree overall this movie was overkill but the target audience was kids.

2023-08-10 03:16:33 +0000 UTCJesus, a whole chunk of criticism of a movie neither has seen is infuriating. I dont think Barbie’s a perfect movie but extrapolating all of these issues off of the written wikiepedia synopsis is like those articles that write out segments of a standup routine to point to how its problematic. Youre getting none of the tone or context to any of it. Also the “more than Kenough” review is a direct reference to something from the movie, and Joe’s deciding that its saying “we don’t need Ken”. Idk feel like you should wait to see the thing before you try to have an in depth discussion on how its problematic

2023-08-08 21:33:02 +0000 UTCOnly Joe can pull off such a heated and opinionated rant like that without seeing the movie.

2023-08-07 16:41:10 +0000 UTCOn Barbie, Joe’s whole point about the Matriarchy being just as bad as the patriarchy- doesn’t hold up. The Barbies didn’t oppress the Kens. They just wanted them to get their own identity. The Ken’s brainwashed the Barbies.

2023-08-07 12:41:54 +0000 UTCBarbie should have been top-to-bottom satire, comedy, and music, because that's where it shone. I'm a feminist (admittedly not the cool kind) and I thought it was an embarrassment. But who cares it made a shit ton of money.

2023-08-05 01:06:37 +0000 UTCI loved Barbie very much and that is a fairly apt description. I think it was a mistake for Pat and Joe to rant as much as they did without seeing the movie. Joe definitely came close to sounding like the right-wing assholes complaining about Barbie.

2023-08-04 21:23:16 +0000 UTCOn the subject of various Mick Jagger singing personas, in the late 60’s / early 70’s, one of them was definitely “Country Mick”. It was probably influenced by Gram Parsons https://youtu.be/1Z-U2HUl7lg

2023-08-04 19:17:04 +0000 UTCSeeing the Barbie movie this weekend. I mean I think it’s supposed to be pretty tongue and cheek right? Seems like it’s just a self aware movie about how ridiculous and pointless ken is and also how Barbie on paper is a strong feminist icon because she has like every job on the planet and has everything but at the same time it’s such a hollow brand and it’s like the weakest attempt at empowerment while also making Barbie perfect looking. It’s kind of a weird message and it seems like they’re just taking shots at all of that and the hypocrisy of the entire thing. I mean I haven’t seen it like I said but from the trailers the other Barbie’s also seem kind of shallow and stupid and so does Margot Robbie in several of the scenes they show so it doesn’t seem like it’s going to be super heavy handed with this message. It really does seem like it’s taking jabs at the time and the brand and Mattel is probably like ha see we can take a joke while also using it to rebrand. That was a rant but in a time where every movie seems to have to “say something” and they do it in such a glaring obvious way, this seems like a movie that’s just trying to be funny and point out a piece of nostalgia that we’re all aware was pretty problematic when applied to todays standards and then quite literally applying Barbie to todays standards by having her come alive in our world now. All of what I said may be completely wrong after I see it and it might be a braindead piece of shit though lol.

2023-08-04 17:05:33 +0000 UTCI thought super Mario bros was entertaining because I like the games and I feel like it was so tailored for that because it’s so overstuffed with Easter eggs and references but I saw somebody say “this is a 90 minute commercial for Nintendo games” which I think is pretty accurate. It has no real story. They spend so long saying they need to get the kong army so they can stuff in donkey Kong but the second they get the kong army they’re instantly and easily kidnapped and that whole thing was pointless. I agree with joe they needed a moment where he has to go through. Level or that it all builds to him doing all these obstacles so that when he gets to bowsers castle we see him use all he knows to get through it and we get a cool sequence of him getting through bowsers castle. It’s a cool level out it in the movie lol.
