How you Dune? Dune alright? Dune fine? OK, you get it. It's our review of Dune!

I always love listening to this episode because I love when you guys tear into a movie that everyone seems to love haha. I completely agree with your points though the only thing I can say is that it’s a very faithful adaptation of the book. But the thing is I don’t know if that translates well as a movie. The book relies so heavily on established lore…it has a huge glossary. I like the book a lot but even I was like dude this movie would make no sense if you don’t know the book. There’s also a huge issue with the fact that all of the major action and crazy shit is in the second half of the book. So when they announced it was two parts I was like welll I know exactly where they’re going to cut it off at and all the more interesting stuff will be in the second half. Also the Baron is pretty boring compared to the book. Everyone talking in monotone is for the concept in the book where they use “the voice” and have to talk with a certain inflection which sometimes leads to no emotion to not betray your emotions but again it’s cool in the book but it doesn’t translate well to film if you haven’t read the book. But that means it doesn’t work as a movie because you shouldn’t have to read the book to enjoy a movie…especially when it’s marketed as a huge popcorn blockbuster. My friends and I are huge fans of the book but I texted them when I got out of the theater and I was like “everyone who hasn’t read this would be like this is dumb, confusing and boring. So I can’t say it’s a great movie even though I think it was a good adaptation of the book” And they all gave me shit. I see a lot of people saying this was a bad take but I really don’t think so. Love dune but I totally get why people would be like “this is boring and not fun to look at.” And it’s true it’s a fucking sand planet. It’s like if Star Wars never left tatooine. After awhile you get sick of looking at sand and earth tones and the same actors that are in every movie now.

Yeah they commentary is also he naturally knows how to put on the suit even though he’s never worn one and she has trouble with it but all of this stuff just comes naturally to him like he’s a native on the planet

Eric Irwin

“World Building” has been around for a while before I’ve heard it in a Hollywood sense. Heard it about Fantasy / sci fi novels like a Dune or Tolkien, and for comic books.

Tom E

I could have sworn joe said Stings character is Duncan Idaho. Thats not right.

Mr. Talbot

This podcast has been a Rex Reed origin story this whole time. Love my boys but just ridiculous. Dune rules.

Nathaniel Young

Easily one of Pat and Joe’s worst takes since BR2049. Joe jerks himself off to Justice League but this movie’s color pallet isn’t pleasing to him? Batman V Superman is awesome but Dune is offensively indulgent?! Fuck off

Tyler Salas

I love Pat and Joe but they made their mind up before they set foot in the theatre. They were shitting on this movie months ago when the trailer came out. The movie isn’t that fucking complicated. Their hatred of all things big budget is insufferable. Calling this movie unpleasant to look at is borderline insane. On top of that, praising Lynch’s version which every one agrees is a pile of shit, including Lynch, is laughable. Joe finds it offensive how expensive it is? Lol. Fuck off.

Tyler Salas

Great show , but the guys are way off on dune. Didn't look good? The cinematography was amazing, the planet looked awesome. I'm a big lynch fan , but this beat lynchs version by a mile. Can't wait for dune part 2

Michael Madonna

I’ve recommended it to a dozen people and everyone agrees to that sentiment. First time I saw O’ Connell and Ben Mendelsohn and was pretty much blown away by them.

Lesl

Starred Up fucking rules! Jack O'Connell is boss as. (he should be in way more things) love '71' too!

Dirk Overton

Joe's interjection of "and I wish this guy was in more things!" before saying Oscar Isaac's name had me cackling

Caela

Pat, when I saw the prison movie Starred Up (seriously, one of the best in the genre) at a press screening the pr person handed out a packet of press notes and a glossary of Irish prison terms to know before watching. I wish more movies did that for sci-fi and fantasy.

Lesl

I think the problem is they are missing some inner monologue in that scene in the book when she gives him that glance she’s worried that he’s becoming more powerful than her and out of her control and out shining her up and he gives her glance thinking that she has nothing left to teach him and he’s reached a new level all on his own

Paul Turdgeist

Table shaking from Joe bumping it with his knee

Paul Turdgeist

Fart or stomach growling at 8:40?

Steven Harrison

You guys got any questions on Dune hit me up

Paul Turdgeist

I agree Joe a friend of 20 years who is also in comedy should understand and accommodate a friend . Fuck You is completely warranted
