Ash Ascendant: Chapter 24
Added 2025-03-19 21:52:17 +0000 UTCHi all,
Here’s the first chapter for the week. Erika heals her shattered core, and Ash returns to the first floor and descends into Hell.
Chapter 24
Ash watched on as Erika prepared the ingredients for the potion.
Erika arranged the star-shaped leaves in a circle around the small iron cauldron. The rich scent of exotic herbs filled the room as she mixed the ingredients. She'd worked in complete silence for the past hour, her concentration never wavering.
"Pass me the essence extractor," she whispered, not looking up from her work.
Ash handed her the strange glass apparatus he'd salvaged from her cave. "Is this how all alchemists work?"
"No."
Erika attached the extractor to the cauldron. She lifted her hands above the mixture. Despite her shattered core, faint tendrils of green energy curled from her right palm while flickering embers danced above her left. The dual energies spiralled together before sinking into the bubbling concoction.
"Impressive," Ash said. "Even with a broken core, you can still control your energy really well."
"It hurts like someone's driving a spike through my chest." Sweat beaded on her forehead as she maintained the delicate balance. "But without both energies, this wouldn't be alchemy—merely advanced cooking."
Delia entered the room carrying a tray of tea. She set it down and watched Erika work with undisguised fascination.
"How did you get so good?” Delia asked,
"Years of practice. My parents recognised my dual affinity when I was five." Erika’s voice turned bitter. “By the time I turned six, I was already experimenting with basic potions. Shortly after, I was sold to the Lunar Sect on the seventh floor."
The potion bubbled violently. Erika adjusted the flame beneath the cauldron with a flick of her fingers.
"Sold?" Delia's cup froze halfway to her lips.
"Alchemists are commodities in the Tower." Erika didn't look up from her work. "The Lunar Sect paid my parents two million pokedollars for my apprenticeship contract."
Ash leant forward. "You're worth far more than that now, I imagine."
"About thirty million, give or take. That was before someone in the Sect betrayed me and I ended up in my current condition. Once I’m healed, you will realise how much of a bargain you got with a million pokedollars.”
The potion bubbled violently as the final ingredients merged. Erika leaned forward, eyes narrowed in concentration. She rotated the iron stirring rod three times clockwise, and twice counterclockwise, creating a precise vortex pattern in the murky liquid.
The muddy brown potion began separating into distinct layers—a denser amber sediment settling at the bottom while a translucent copper-coloured liquid rose to the surface. Erika tapped the cauldron's rim with her stirring rod. The metallic ping resonated through the mixture, causing the separated layers to vibrate and begin reintegrating.
Her left hand positioned above the mixture, Erika released controlled bursts of fire energy in three-second pulses. The liquid's colour transformed through a spectrum—from murky brown to burnt sienna, then ochre, deepening to burgundy before finally achieving a vibrant crimson that seemed to glow from within.
She selected a small crystal vial containing a clear solution. Three measured drops fell into the crimson mixture, each hissing upon impact.
Erika removed the cauldron from the heat and placed it on a cooling rack. Her hand passed over the surface, absorbing excess thermal energy. The gel's colour intensified under her ministrations, developing deeper crimson veins that networked throughout the structure like living capillaries. The patterns stabilised, completing the transformation.
"It's ready." She scooped the gel into a small ceramic bowl. "This will begin the healing process for my core."
"Begin?" Ash frowned. "How many treatments will you need?"
"Three."
“How long will that take?”
“About a month,” Erika replied. “I can’t take them all at once.”
Erika lifted the bowl to her lips. She drained the bowl in three swift gulps. Her body went rigid, eyes flying wide as the potion took effect. For several seconds, she seemed frozen in place—then she collapsed.
Delia caught her before she hit the floor. "Erika!"
"It's working." Erika's voice emerged strained through clenched teeth. "I need to meditate now."
Ash helped his mother carry Erika to the bedroom they'd prepared. They laid her on the bed where she immediately curled into a foetal position, tremors running through her body.
"Will you be alright?" Delia asked.
"Yes." Erika's breathing stabilised slightly. "The process is unpleasant but necessary."
Delia placed a hand on Erika's shoulder, her eyes closing in concentration. Soft pink waves of energy pulsed from her palm as she activated Heal Pulse. The technique's signature rhythmic waves expanded outward, synchronising with Erika's erratic biorhythms and gradually smoothing the violent tremors wracking her body.
Erika's eyes widened in surprise as the healing technique interacted with her potion. Her lips parted in silent wonder, watching the pink energy merge with the crimson residue still visible beneath her skin.
Delia noticed the reaction too, maintaining the steady pulse of healing energy while observing the unexpected synergy. Her expression remained focused but curious as the Heal Pulse penetrated deeper than usual, guided by the alchemical pathways the potion had established. The technique flowed directly to the damaged meridians surrounding Erika's shattered core, something Delia hadn't previously been able to target so precisely.
Erika's eyelids grew heavy as the potion and healing technique's combined effect pulled her toward meditation. Her body relaxed muscle by muscle. Her breathing deepened and slowed into a distinctive pattern of healing trance.
Delia maintained the rhythmic waves of Heal Pulse for several more minutes, ensuring the technique reached its full efficacy. She finally withdrew her hand when Erika's breathing stabilised.
“How did you do that?” Ash asked.
Delia shook her head. “I don’t know.”
‘Your ability is even more amazing than I realised.”
The implications were exciting. His mother had the ability to improve the efficiency of healing potions. The synergistic interaction between Delia's Heal Pulse technique and Erika's alchemical concoction suggested untapped potential. Her natural healing affinity somehow enhanced and guided the potion's effects, directing it precisely to the damaged meridians around Erika's shattered core.
Ash considered the broader applications. If Delia could enhance healing potions, could she similarly amplify other alchemical creations?
Few cultivators possessed healing affinities to begin with, and even fewer would have the opportunity to work alongside a genuine alchemist. The combination was likely so rare that it remained largely unexplored, possibly even undocumented in cultivation texts. This accidental discovery might prove more valuable than any single technique or resource Ash had uncovered so far.
He made a mental note to discuss this with Erika once she recovered.
Ash started cleaning up the alchemical equipment. Erika’s demonstration of her abilities had been far more impressive than what she had shown previously. Now, he only had to wait a month to reap the benefits.

Ash placed the Thunder Stone and potion on the table before him. Blitz and Bastion were finally ready to evolve.
A month had passed since Erika completed her three-stage healing process. The final treatment had restored her shattered core, each meridian reconnecting as the specially formulated potion rebuilt her cultivation foundation. Within days, her energy signature had stabilised, quickly returning to the fifth stage of the Essence Realm—a power level that made Ash acutely aware of the vast gap between their capabilities despite their similar ages.
Throughout her recovery, Erika spent countless hours researching Ash and his Pokemon. She collected samples of their energy signatures, analysed their cultivation, and documented their unique characteristics.
The results of her research had proven transformative. The first specialised potion she created for Ash had accelerated his energy refinement process tenfold, compressing weeks of cultivation into mere days. Unlike mass-produced variants available in the market, her concoction matched his Steel-type affinity perfectly, eliminating the wasted energy typical of standard potions.
The potion helped Ash break through to the sixth stage of the Tempering Realm. The transition brought immediate improvements to his energy density and control. His liquid metal manipulation had expanded significantly—he could now cover seventy percent of his body.
The Iron Echo Shell technique had similarly evolved, allowing him to redirect force with minimal energy expenditure. During his most recent sparring session with Blaze, he successfully reflected a Metal Claw without visible effort, the energy framework activating almost subconsciously.
He called Blitz and Bastion from his mind palace. Months of training combined with the energy they'd absorbed had brought them to the evolution threshold. Now, with the catalysts he'd purchased, they could take the final step.
"Ready?" Ash asked, picking up a Thunder Stone.
Blitz bobbed in the air, magnets spinning with excitement. The Magnemite had reached level thirty, accumulating enough energy to evolve naturally but the process would take weeks without assistance. The Thunder Stone would accelerate the transformation.
Ash placed the stone against Blitz's metal body. The reaction was instantaneous.
Energy surged from the stone, crackling across Blitz's surface in brilliant blue arcs. The Magnemite's form began to glow, its outline blurring as the evolutionary process took hold. The single eye closed as twin Magnemites materialised beside the original, their forms composed of pure energy.
The three identical shapes merged, structure shifting as they integrated into a single entity. Metal flowed and reshaped itself, new magnets sprouting as the body expanded. Electrical currents intensified, whirling between components in increasingly complex patterns.
With a final pulse of light, the evolution was completed. Where Blitz had floated now hovered a Magneton—three Magnemites fused into a triangular formation, each unit retaining its distinct eye while operating as a unified whole.
Information about Blitz’s transformation flooded his brain. The transformation had boosted every stat by approximately twenty points. Blitz's Special Attack now approached ninety-five, making it a devastating offensive powerhouse. More importantly, the evolution increased its energy capacity dramatically, allowing for sustained combat.
"How does the new form feel?" Ash asked.
Blitz rotated his orbs and emitted a familiar electronic hum, but Ash sensed a difference through their bond. The single consciousness had become more complex—not quite three separate minds, but something richer and more layered than before. Each magnetic unit added depth to Blitz's perception, creating a triangulated awareness of the world around him.
The Pokemon drifted closer, electricity arcing between his magnets in a pattern Ash recognised as contentment.
Ash turned to Bastion. "Your turn."
The Aron stepped forward, eyeing the crystalline vial with undisguised curiosity. Erika had spent three days crafting this specialised catalyst, combining rare mineral extracts with the unique metal Bastion had been consuming for months.
Ash uncorked the vial and poured the potion over Bastion's head. The substance didn't merely coat his exterior—it seemed to recognise the facility metal within him, seeping through microscopic pores in his armour plates. Bastion's eyes widened as the potion penetrated his steel hide, infusing every plate and joint.
The transformation began from his core. Bastion's form expanded dramatically, nearly doubling in size as his stubby limbs thickened and lengthened. His rounded head elongated, developing pronounced ridges and a sturdy jaw structure. The once-diminutive legs grew powerful, anchoring him firmly to the ground.
When the light subsided, a Lairon stood where Bastion had been. The metallic plates covering his body had an unusual blue-silver sheen, their edges rimmed with a darker cobalt hue. This distinctive colouration testified to months of consuming the facility's specialised metal alloy, now permanently integrated into his evolved form.
The metal had transformed Bastion's dimensions beyond typical evolution parameters. He stretched nearly one and a half metres from snout to tail—a good fifty percent longer than the average Lairon.
The high ridges along his back were now spaced wider apart than standard specimens. The armoured plates were reinforced with the bluish-silver alloy unique to his evolution.
"You’re amazing," Ash breathed.
He touched Bastion's armour, finding it impossibly smooth and cool beneath his fingers. Bastion's Defense and Special Defense had increased by thirty points, while his other stats improved by twenty. His special ability had evolved into a new ability altogether. Resonance Field created a field that amplified Steel-type techniques for all summoned Pokemon under his control.
"Let's try something," Ash said.
Ash hoisted himself up, swinging one leg over to straddle the space between the ridges. The metal felt cool against his thighs as he settled into position. The widened valleys between Bastion's dorsal ridges formed a perfect saddle. Ash's knees tucked naturally against the armoured sides, giving him a secure seat that felt remarkably comfortable.
"Forward," Ash instructed.
Bastion took a cautious step, then another, adjusting to the unfamiliar weight on his back. Each movement was deliberate at first but grew more confident as they found their rhythm together. The Lairon's powerful legs carried them across the clearing with surprising grace.
Ash leaned slightly forward, gripping the front ridge for stability. "Let's pick up the pace."
Bastion responded immediately, accelerating into a trot that sent vibrations through Ash's body. They moved as one entity, Ash shifting his weight instinctively with each turn and change in speed.
"This is fun," Ash murmured.
He may have his steel board, but riding on the back of Bastion offered a different experience; one that would disappear once he evolved into Aggron. He would enjoy it while it lasted.

Ash was eating breakfast with Erica and his mother when James burst through the door without knocking. He paced across the living room, crushing a rose in his hand.
“Don’t you know how to knock?” Ash asked.
James paused. “I own the apartment.”
"Does that mean it's acceptable to enter without permission? What do the other tenants think about it?"
"I don't just walk into their apartments. Only yours."
"Wow, I feel really special. What brings you here?"
"It's getting worse," James said, resuming his pacing. "Lucian's systematically working through the city's population."
"What do you mean?" Delia asked.
"He's establishing checkpoints throughout the city." James raked fingers through his hair. "Every cultivator must submit to a mind scan. Those who resist are detained."
Ash's stomach clenched. "Has he found anything?"
"Not yet. But his methods are becoming increasingly invasive." James's eyes met Ash's. "The cursory probes from the crowd gathering? Those were nothing. He's going deeper now, sifting through people’s memories."
Erika, who had been quietly observing, finally said something. "I can’t let myself be scanned. I’ve got some secrets that need to stay hidden."
"None of us can risk it," Ash said. He turned to his mother. "You need to leave the city."
"Where would I go?" Delia asked.
"Mustard's. He'll protect you." Ash checked his Pokenav. "I'll take you there tonight."
James nodded. "Good plan. His place is remote enough that Lucian won't bother searching there."
"What about you?" Delia asked Ash.
"I need to leave temporarily." Ash glanced at Erika. "I suggest you do the same."
“I have an idea,” Erika said. "I've heard rumours about unusual ingredients appearing on the first floor."
"What kind of ingredients?" Ash asked.
"Rare minerals and plants are never seen before." Erika's eyes brightened. "The Arceus Fragments altered the environment, creating conditions for growth that shouldn't be possible there."
“I wouldn’t be in a rush to go there,” James said. “The first floor is in chaos at the moment.”
“What do you mean?” Ash asked.
"If you go there, you'll see for yourself. Let's say the first floor is getting a lot of visitors."
Ash nodded. " I will be careful but this is a good opportunity. I have been meaning to return to catch some Pokemon I've been eyeing.”
Ash didn’t waste any time. As soon as his mother had packed, he transported her to Mustard's cottage. The old master, initially grumpy about the unexpected guests, softened when Delia offered to cook for him.
"How long will you be gone?" Winona asked Ash as he prepared to leave.
"I don’t know. Depends on what I find down there." He summoned his board. "If Lucian comes looking—"
"I'll say you went east," she interrupted. “Be careful down there."
Ash nodded, grateful for her understanding. With a final goodbye, he ascended into the sky, setting course for the Tower and the first floor beyond.

The elevator doors slid open, revealing the first floor's central hub. Ash stepped out with Erika trailing behind him, her dark eyes constantly scanning their surroundings. They made their way to the service desk through the bustling crowd. The space buzzed with activity—dozens of cultivators milled about, their powerful auras clashing like invisible currents.
"Welcome back to the first floor," said the same female attendant who'd processed his departure months ago. Recognition flickered in her eyes. "Didn't expect to see you return so soon."
"Just visiting," Ash replied, scanning the crowd. "What's with all these people?"
Erika shifted uncomfortably beside him. "I don't like this place. Too many strong auras crammed together."
"Word of caution first—there are some Team Magma members on the first floor." The attendant lowered her voice. "They've been unusually active since the incident."
"What incident?" Ash asked.
The attendant leant closer. "You haven't heard? The Arceus Fragments did more than burn the southern landfill to slag. They revealed something. A massive hole leading into an underground area."
"Another floor?"
"They're calling it Floor Zero. Or Hell, depending on who you ask. It's an unofficial floor, as it doesn't have the same environmental factors as the floors in the Tower, like a weather system. It's permanently wreathed in flames and darkness."
Erika grabbed Ash's arm, her fingers digging into his sleeve. "We should leave. Now."
Ash ignored her, focusing on the attendant. "Is the Tower Association investigating?"
"Arrived yesterday with advanced equipment." She nodded towards a group wearing grey uniforms. "They're assembling an expedition team as we speak."
"Who's leading them?"
"Administrator Wei."
Relief flooded through Ash. Not Lucian, then. "Are the Overseers involved?"
"Rumour says one might descend if Administrator Wei's findings warrant it. Never thought I'd see the day an Overseer would visit the first floor."
Erika tugged more insistently at his arm. "If an Overseer is considering coming here, we definitely shouldn't be anywhere near this place."
Ash thanked the attendant and navigated through the crowd towards the exit, Erika practically plastered to his back as they moved. The gate opened onto the familiar wasteland, though even from here, he could see changes on the southern horizon—a haze of heat distorted the air above what had once been the landfill.
"This is your home?" Erika asked, wrinkling her nose at the barren landscape. "No wonder you're so rough around the edges."
"Used to be," Ash replied. He pulled his steel board from his mind palace and rose into the air for a better view. The southern sector was unrecognisable. Where mountains of refuse had stood, a blackened crater stretched for kilometres. At its centre glowed a perfect circle of darkness—the hole the attendant had mentioned.
Ash descended and summoned Bastion. The Lairon materialised with a heavy thud.
"Fancy a trip south?" Ash patted Bastion's armoured head.
"Are you mad?" Erika crossed her arms.
“Why are you so afraid?” Ash asked. “Your cultivation has been restored. You should be stronger than me.”
“I was forced to produce potions for the sect,” Erika said. “I never got any combat training. Besides, I never replaced the Pokemon I lost when my core was shattered.”
"You'll be fine. Bastion can protect us."
Bastion rumbled in agreement, lowering himself so Ash could climb onto its back. He extended his hand to Erika, who stared at it as if he'd offered her a poisonous snake.
"I'm not getting on that thing."
"Suit yourself." Ash shrugged. "You can wait here then, surrounded by Team Magma members."
Erika glanced nervously at the Tower entrance, then back at Ash. With a muttered curse, she grabbed his hand and climbed awkwardly onto Bastion's back, settling behind Ash with obvious discomfort.
"Hold on," Ash advised as Bastion started forward at a steady pace, the Lairon's powerful legs eating up the distance despite its considerable weight.
Erika wrapped her arms tightly around Ash's waist, pressing herself against his back as Bastion picked up speed. "If I die here, I'll haunt you for eternity."
The devastation became more apparent as they approached. Glassy black stone had replaced the refuse piles, suggesting temperatures hot enough to melt and fuse metal and stone alike. Occasional pieces of twisted steel protruded from the obsidian-like surface, the only remnants of the landfill's contents.
Heat radiated from the ground, making the air shimmer around them. Bastion seemed unbothered, its Steel-type nature providing resistance to extreme temperatures. Ash wiped the sweat from his forehead as they neared the hole's perimeter.
"This was all done by Arceus Fragments?" Erika asked.
"Two of them," Ash replied.
A makeshift camp had formed around the site. Tents bearing the Tower Association's insignia stood alongside cruder shelters established by independent cultivators. On the opposite side, Team Magma's red uniforms created a splash of colour against the blackened landscape.
The hole itself was perfectly circular, at least thirty metres across. Its edges were smooth, as if cut by a precision tool rather than created through an explosion or collapse. No bottom was visible—just an absolute darkness that swallowed light completely.
Ash dismounted from Bastion, approaching the gathering of people near the hole's edge. A Tower Association official stood on a raised platform, addressing the crowd.
"Our initial scans indicate an extensive network of tunnels and chambers beneath," the official announced, his voice amplified by a technique. "The complex extends beyond our instruments' range, suggesting a structure rivalling the size of multiple floors."
Murmurs rippled through the assembled cultivators.
"The Tower Association will lead an official expedition within the hour," he continued. "Independent cultivators are permitted to explore at their own risk, with appropriate compensation for significant discoveries brought to our attention."
A woman raised her hand. "What classifies as significant?"
"Anything displaying unusual properties, remnants of advanced technology, or written records dating before the Tower's creation." The official paused. "Be warned—our scans detected significant Pokemon activity below. Many appear to be variants we've never encountered before."
Excitement surged through the crowd. Unknown Pokemon variants meant potential new captures—valuable commodities on any floor.
"Final warning," the official said. "The environmental conditions below are hazardous. Extreme heat, toxic atmosphere, perpetual darkness, and unstable terrain have all been detected. Anyone below stage three in the Tempering Realm should not attempt descent without a more powerful companion."
The crowd began breaking into smaller groups, cultivators forming impromptu alliances for the exploration. Several threw out flying Pokemon in preparation.
"Are we going down there?" Erika asked.
Ash hesitated. His instincts warned against entering this unknown territory. Yet the potential rewards tempted him—any treasure he found would help restore his finances.
"I'd planned to hunt Beldum and Skarmory," he said, watching as the first explorers began descending into the darkness. "But this could be worth investigating."
Erika nodded. "Extreme conditions often produce unique flora with potent alchemical properties."
Ash weighed their options. The risks were substantial, but so were the potential rewards. They had the advantage of his steel board for quick retreat if needed. With his Pokemon team at their current strength, they could handle most threats.
"We'll go," he decided. "But we stay together and prioritise safety over treasures. At the first sign of serious danger, we retreat."
Erika nodded, tying back her long hair in preparation. "Agreed."
Ash retrieved the steel board and climbed onto it. The steel board wobbled as Erika climbed behind Ash, her arms wrapping tightly around his waist.
"I can't believe I'm doing this," she muttered, her breath warm against his ear.
Ash returned Bastion to his mind palace and summoned Blitz. "Hold on tight."
The board tilted forward, hovering over the perfectly circular hole. Darkness yawned beneath them like a hungry mouth. Blitz floated ahead, electricity arcing between its magnets to cast a harsh blue glow that barely penetrated the gloom.
"Last chance to back out," Ash said.
Erika's grip tightened. "Just go before I change my mind."
Ash leant forward and the board descended, plunging them into darkness. As soon as they passed beyond the view of other explorers, he retrieved the Steel Mask from his mind palace and placed it against his face. The familiar tendrils connected instantly, its interface materialising in his vision and sharpening his senses.
"What's that?" Erika asked, eyeing the mask sceptically.
"Something that will help us navigate down here," Ash replied.
He summoned the three Giru robots, which immediately activated their cloaking technology and zipped ahead into the darkness.
Erika shifted uncomfortably behind him. "Another one of your secrets I'm bound not to reveal?"
"The psychic contract covers everything you learn about me during our agreement," Ash confirmed. "Even after it dissolves."
The temperature rose steadily as they descended deeper. Occasional outcroppings of black stone flashed past in Blitz's light, the walls perfectly smooth as if carved by precision tools.
"How far down does this go?" Erika whispered.
They passed other explorers clinging to the walls or descending on flying Pokemon. After minutes of continuous descent, the shaft widened into a vast cavern. Ash pulled the board to a stop, hovering as he took in their surroundings.
Floor Zero stretched before them—a hellscape of obsidian plains broken by rivers of molten rock that cast an eerie orange glow across the landscape. The air shimmered with heat, carrying the acrid stench of sulphur.
"It's like something from a nightmare," Erika whispered, peering over Ash's shoulder.
Strange structures dotted the landscape—angular formations that couldn't have formed naturally. Some resembled buildings with impossible geometries, their black surfaces reflecting the lava's glow. Others rose like twisted obelisks, covered in markings too distant to decipher.
Ash guided the board down to a relatively flat area away from the molten flows. "We should explore on foot. The board is too conspicuous."
They dismounted and he stored the board in his mind palace. Ash summoned Blade to scout ahead while keeping Bastion and Blaze in reserve.
"See those?" Ash pointed to faint tracks in the volcanic dust. "Pokemon have been through here recently."
Erika knelt to examine a twisted plant growing from a crack in the ground. Its stem had a metallic sheen, with leaves shaped like serrated blades. "This shouldn't be possible. Nothing should grow in these conditions."
"Is it valuable?"
"I don't know." She carefully harvested the plant, storing it in a vial. "The adaptations it's developed to survive here could lead to some interesting potion formulas."
They continued forward, following a relatively stable path between lava streams. The further they ventured, the more artificial structures appeared—ruins of what might have been a city before whatever cataclysm shaped this environment.
"These buildings," Ash said, running his hand along a wall inscribed with unfamiliar symbols. "They're similar to the underground facility."
"What underground facility?"
Ash hesitated. "Something I found on the second floor."
Erika gave him a searching look but didn't press further.
Blade suddenly froze, its claws raised in warning. Through their bond, Ash sensed immediate danger.
"Something's coming," he whispered, crouching behind a fallen pillar.
The ground vibrated with approaching footsteps—something heavy moving their way. Ash pulled Erika down beside him as a creature emerged from around a collapsed structure.
It resembled a Tyranitar but twisted into something barely recognisable. Its rocky hide glowed with veins of molten material that pulsed like blood vessels. Where a Tyranitar's spikes would be, this creature sported jagged crystalline growths that shifted colours with its movements. Its eyes burned crimson, trailing smoke as it scanned the area.
"What is that?" Erika breathed.
"A variant," Ash replied, his mouth dry. "Like the official mentioned."
The Tyranitar variant stopped, its head lifting as it tested the air. A rumbling growl emerged from its throat, echoing across the landscape.
Ash reached for Blaze’s pokeball in his mind palace, ready to summon the Lairon if needed. The creature took another step forward, now alarmingly close to their hiding spot.
A distant explosion drew the monster's attention. Its head swivelled towards the sound, momentarily distracted.
"There's our chance," Ash whispered. "Let's move."
They edged away from the pillar, keeping low as they retreated. The variant suddenly roared—a sound so powerful it sent cracks spreading through nearby structures.
"It's seen us," Erika hissed.
The Tyranitar variant charged, each footstep leaving molten impressions in the stone. Ash summoned Blaze, the Scizor materialising in a flash of red light.
Blitz surged forward, electricity crackling as it unleashed a paralyzing current. The energy struck the Tyranitar variant but seemed to flow around its body rather than affecting it. Blaze followed with Metal Claw, steel pincers slashing across the creature's hide.
The variant barely flinched, its crystalline growths suddenly flaring with light. Before Blaze could retreat, it unleashed a blast of energy from its mouth—not Hyper Beam, but something similar that tore through the space where the Scizor had been moments before.
Ash grabbed Erika's hand. "Run!"
They sprinted through the ruins, the Tyranitar variant in pursuit. Its footsteps shook the ground, closing the distance with alarming speed.
"The board!" Erika shouted.
Ash summoned the steel board from his mind palace, pulling Erika onto it beside him. The board shot upward as the variant lunged, massive jaws snapping shut where they'd stood seconds before.
They soared between ruins, weaving through collapsed arches as the creature gave chase below. Other explorers scattered at its approach, some releasing Pokemon to defend themselves while others fled.
"Head back to the shaft!" Erika urged, clinging to Ash as the board banked sharply around a towering obelisk.
A second variant—this one resembling a mutated Aggron with pulsing lava veins—emerged from behind a building ahead, blocking their path.
"Change of plans," Ash muttered, veering away. "We need to find another exit."
The board accelerated as both variants converged on their position, the creatures communicating through guttural roars.
"There!" Erika pointed to a narrow fissure in the distant wall, barely visible in the dim light. "It might lead to another tunnel system."
Ash directed the board towards the opening, pushing its speed to the limit as the monstrous Pokemon below continued their pursuit. The fissure loomed ahead—a jagged crack just wide enough for the board to pass through.
"Brace yourself," Ash warned as they shot into the opening, darkness swallowing them whole.
So, what do you think? In the next chapter, Ash and Erika continue to explore Hell and encounter Team Magma.
Thanks for reading.
