Pokemon: Resurgence Chapter 81
Added 2025-03-14 16:50:27 +0000 UTCHi all,
Here’s the second chapter for the week. I’m behind on the schedule, but the third chapter will be out later today.
Chapter 81
The sandstorm kept howling outside, while Lucas and Max were inside, preparing for the Pokemon's evolution.
Before proceeding, Lucas opened his menu and accessed the Custom Interface function. He selected the Pokemon status page and adjusted the settings to strip away unnecessary details. The cluttered display was simplified, showing only essential information when he used Insight on a Pokemon. The full details only mattered for his team and he already had them committed to memory.
This small change would make battles more efficient going forward.
Lucas retrieved the Electrizer potion from his inventory and gave it to Max. “Whenever you're ready.”
Max nodded. He lifted the potion to his mouth and drank it in one gulp.
Nothing happened for several seconds. Then light burst from his body, his silhouette warping inside the glow as he expanded. His height shot upward. Muscles bulged across his limbs, shoulders doubling in width. The twin horns on his head stretched and curved back, then straightened into sharp points.
In fifteen seconds, it was over.
Where Max once stood, an Electivire now towered, his head nearly touching the ceiling. Two black tails swayed behind him, their tips crackling with electricity. His fur had darkened to gold, with black stripes cutting across his massive frame. His face looked broader, features more defined.
"Unbelievable," Lucas whispered. "Look at you."
Max now stood at least three feet taller than Lucas, far larger than any typical Electivire. The Giant trait from his previous form had amplified during evolution, transforming him into a colossus. An average Electivire barely reached six feet.
He flexed his massive arms, sparks jumping between his clawed fingers as he tested his new body. Looking down at his hands, he turned them over, examining them with obvious astonishment.
Lucas activated his Insight skill, curious to see how Max's parameters had changed with evolution.

Max's physical strength had skyrocketed with the new traits he gained after evolving. They also allowed him to maintain his speed despite his increased bulk. The defensive capabilities that had made him so reliable in battles had only improved—providing a chance to negate an attack. His potential couldn’t compare to Nero, Sapphira, and Raijin, but he would be a force to reckon with regardless.
A Pokemon's physical dimensions influenced its combat effectiveness beyond what raw stats could capture. Max's extraordinary size amplified his attacks and defensive capabilities in ways numbers alone couldn't represent. Furthermore, once he successfully created the Amplifier Potion and Max accumulated more Effort Values through training,
“Now, to get back to working on the pill,” Lucas murmured.
“I want to help,” Max said over the bond.
“Are you sure you're not too big for such delicate work?”
“Just try me.”
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
The mixture bubbled, turning from murky brown to a vibrant gold. Lucas filtered it through progressive meshes, the liquid thickening with each pass. When only a paste remained, he pressed it into a pill mould and applied the final heat treatment.
The pill hardened, glowing softly before settling into a stable form. He waited for a moment, but the pill didn’t move. He picked up the pill, which felt surprisingly cool in his palm. It seemed incredible to him that such a small thing could hold such a powerful effect.
A notification pinged, informing him that his Alchemy Profession had levelled to eight, confirming the pill was a success.
Lucas grinned. Although no new skill accompanied the level increase, the achievement satisfied him deeply.
"Max," he called, holding up the golden pill. "I’ve finished the pill that’s going to complement your evolution."
The Electivire lumbered over, ducking his head to avoid the ceiling. He accepted the pill with surprising delicacy for his massive hands.
Max swallowed it in one movement. Lucas checked his parameters and saw his Effort Value capacity had increased to three hundred. That meant another two hundred stats to work with.
Lucas prepared more ingredients. By nightfall, he'd created three additional Legendary Amplifier Pills—enough for Rayquaza and part of his team. He still needed to make the standard version, but that could wait.
The sandstorm subsided overnight, leaving a transformed landscape of rippled dunes and exposed rock formations. Lucas ventured out at dawn and spent the morning collecting additional ingredients.
When his satchel was full, he summoned Dante. "Time to deliver as promised."
The Gardevoir teleported them to Rayquaza's floating structure. As soon as he approached the temple, the legendary Pokemon appeared.
"I've brought something for you," Lucas said, producing one of the golden pills.
Rayquaza examined it before accepting the offering.

"While I'm here," Lucas said, "would it be alright if I collected some of these materials?"
Rayquaza considered the request before nodding. It turned and soared back toward the central temple.
Lucas worked quickly, gathering several containers of the meteorite material. As he finished storing them in his inventory, his phone buzzed.
"Hello?"
"Mr. Walker," Prime Minister Maeve's voice came through crisply. "There have been some developments. Can you come to my office immediately?"
“Do you want to discuss the test results?”
“Yes. Among other things.”
"I'll be there within the hour."
"Good. This isn't something to discuss over the phone."
The call ended, leaving Lucas wondering what discoveries had prompted such urgency.
He summoned Dante and had him teleport him back to the mainland.

Lucas walked into the Prime Minister's office and halted mid-stride. Shichiro sat opposite Maeve, his expression inscrutable. Both leaders looked up as Lucas entered.
"Perfect timing, Mr. Walker," Prime Minister Maeve gestured to an empty chair. "Prime Minister Kuroi was just discussing our findings."
Lucas sank into the seat, glancing between them. "I didn't expect you to be here, Uncle."
Shichiro's mouth twitched. "The meteorite rocks are a big deal. Since this is an official meeting, call me Prime Minister."
Lucas snorted. "Is there any need to be so formal? You wouldn't be here without me."
"Listen here—"
Lucas pulled his phone from his pocket. "Should I call Sabrina and tell her you're trying to bully me?"
"Do you need a girl to fight your battles?"
"I learned from the best."
"As amusing as this is to watch," Maeve said. "Can we get down to business?"
Lucas leaned back in his chair. "Go ahead."
"We have the results and the analysis is conclusive," Maeve slid a report across the desk. "The material possesses energy absorption capabilities beyond anything we've documented. Our labs confirm it could revolutionise power storage across multiple industries."
Shichiro nodded. "The Kanto scientists reached identical conclusions. The applications for sustainable energy alone are staggering."
"Yet we're talking about a material controlled by a legendary Pokemon," Lucas pointed out.
"Which brings us to why you're here," Maeve said. "We need access to more of it."
"Both regions would benefit from studying this material," Shichiro added. "We propose a joint research initiative."
Lucas crossed his arms. "And what would I get from this arrangement?"
Maeve and Shichiro exchanged glances.
"I will give you ten percent of any patents developed from the research," Maeve offered.
"I can offer expedited permits for any business ventures," Shichiro added.
Lucas considered the offer. Maeve's proposal tempted him, but Shichiro's contribution fell flat. The expedited permits would come his way regardless through their existing business relationship. The man hoped to leverage his niece's relationship to secure benefits without offering anything of real value. Lucas made a mental note to extract every possible concession in their next business negotiation.
"I won't take more than Rayquaza permits,” Lucas said. “But if it agrees, I'll ensure both regions receive equal amounts."
"Acceptable," Maeve nodded. "We can draft the agreement today."
Shichiro rose from his seat and offered Maeve his hand. “Pleasure doing business with you. I will be in the city for the night if there is anything you need.”
Maeve escorted Shichiro to the door while Lucas remained seated at her request.
When Maeve returned and closed the door, her professional smile vanished. She sat heavily in her chair, shoulders slumping as she rubbed her temples.
"Samiya's gone," she said without preamble.
"Gone?" Lucas frowned. "What do you mean?"
"Using the information you and Sabrina provided, we located the underwater temple," Maeve explained. "We had agents monitoring it discreetly for three days."
"Had?"
"Yesterday afternoon, Team Aqua attacked our surveillance team. Six of my people are in hospital. During the chaos, Samiya disappeared."
"A massive structure like that doesn't just vanish."
"This one did. One hour it was here, the next—nothing. Our tracking vessels lost it completely despite deploying every detection method available."
"Do you have any idea where it disappeared to?"
"We believe it left Hoenn's territorial waters, which makes this an international concern."
"Have you notified other regions?"
"All coastal authorities are on alert, but without knowing its destination..." She shrugged. "It's like searching for a needle in an ocean."
Lucas leaned forward. "Any sign of Phantom?"
"None," Maeve replied, closing the files. "But Team Aqua's presence confirms our suspicions about their involvement. They attacked with precision, targeting our communications first. This wasn't opportunistic—they knew exactly when and where to strike."
"An inside source?"
"We're investigating that possibility." Her expression hardened. "Speaking of suspicious activity, let's discuss Ocean Paradise."
Lucas blinked at the abrupt change of subject. "What about it?"
"A Rayquaza sighting caused mass panic, yet our analysis shows inconsistencies in eyewitness accounts," Maeve said, sliding a folder across the desk. "The timing is curious—exactly when Detective Moore needed access to restricted areas."
"What does that have to do with me?"
"Weren't you there?"
"What gave you that impression?"
Maeve opened the folder, revealing a photo of him in disguise, battling with Nero against Courtney in the Survival Arena. "This person resembles you quite a bit, and I know you own a Krokorok."
"Have you investigated me?" Lucas asked.
"Naturally," Maeve replied without a hint of apology. "It's common practice for anyone I'm going into business with."
"Well, that could be anyone's Krokorok. He certainly isn't mine."
Maeve sighed, closing the folder. "Just tread lightly, Lucas. I don't know how you made that Rayquaza illusion appear, but the chaos you caused cannot be overlooked."
"Let's say I was there," Lucas said. "Hypothetically speaking. If I caused that commotion, what reason would I have for doing so?"
"You tell me."
"Maybe it's because the owner of the Ocean Paradise is Maxie. Who you probably already suspect is part of Team Magma."
Maeve's silence spoke volumes.
Lucas stood and walked to the door. After opening it, he paused and turned around. "There may be a reason you aren't willing to move against him. Perhaps he's good for the economy."
"I don't like what you're implying."
Lucas nodded. "Of course. This is pure speculation. But hypothetically speaking, what if it was discovered that Team Aqua was seen at Ocean Paradise on the day of the incident? With access to areas forbidden to the public. As if they had permission to be there."
Maeve's eyes widened slightly.
"Good day, Prime Minister," Lucas said, stepping out of the office and shutting the door behind him.
In the corridor, he exhaled slowly. The mounting complications made returning to Kanto seem increasingly appealing. It was time to return home before attracting more unwanted attention. But first, several loose ends required tying up. He pulled out his phone to message Sabrina as he headed for the exit.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Water pressure built around the protective bubble as Saphira guided them deeper into the ocean. Lucas sat cross-legged inside the Dive barrier, watching schools of Relicanth and Clamperl dart away from their approach. The thirteen-kilometre descent to the Seafloor Cavern stretched before them, a journey through progressively darker waters.
Lucas marvelled at the protective field. Saphira's mastery of Dive created a sphere of breathable air that maintained pressure equilibrium. Within it, he felt no different than standing on the surface, though the crushing depths waited mere centimetres away.
When they arrived at the Seafloor Cavern. Saphira found the entrance and entered. She reached the natural dock, and dispersed the Dive barrier. As soon as he was on solid ground, he released Max, Nero and Ashe.
"Stay alert," Lucas said. "We don't know if Mega Gyarados is still here. Or worse—Kyogre might have returned."
The Pokemon spread out, each taking defensive positions as they began their descent into the deeper chambers.
As they traversed the tunnel leading to the main cavern, Lucas's interface chimed. A notification appeared in his vision:
===========
New Legendary Quest!
The Essence of Primal: Retrieve the Blue Orb for Raijin.
Reward: +1000 favourability with Raijin, +2 skill points.
===========
Lucas halted mid-step. His Pokemon paused, looking back at him questioningly.
The Blue Orb had returned to the cavern, which didn't bode well for him. It meant Kyogre had returned to the cavern, and might still be lurking nearby.
Putting that aside for the moment, Lucas questioned why he'd received such a quest. The rewards hardly justified the risk of angering a legendary Pokemon. Two skill points and increased favorability with Raijin weren't worth potentially dying.
He recalled Raijin's intense attraction to the orb during their previous visit—how the young Zapdos had fought against his control, drawn to the artifact with overwhelming compulsion. The orb contained primal energy, power that had transformed Kyogre into a force of nature capable of nearly drowning Hoenn.
What would it do to Raijin?
They reached the cavern with the underground lake. Lucas led his team around the water's edge, alert for any disturbance that might signal Kyogre's presence.
The chamber housing the Blue Orb appeared undisturbed. The stone pedestal stood as before, and atop it, the orb pulsed with steady blue light. Lucas approached cautiously, searching for signs of Kyogre.
Nothing.
Lucas reached for the orb, hesitating for a heartbeat before grasping it. The surface felt cool against his palm, vibrating with contained energy.

“That was easy.”
He slipped the orb into his inventory and backed away from the pedestal. "Let's get somewhere safer before we continue."
He led them to the location of his Secret Base in the tunnel between the chamber and the main cavern, activating the hidden entrance. The door materialised and they entered, the door sealing behind them.
Inside the base, Lucas retrieved the orb from his inventory.
"Time to see what happens," Lucas murmured, summoning Raijin. He better not regret this.
The young Zapdos materialised in a flash of light. The moment his talons touched the ground, his head snapped toward the Blue Orb. His pupils dilated, and an agitated screech escaped his beak.
Lucas held out the orb. "This is what you want?"
Raijin approached and extended a talon toward the artefact.
"Go ahead," Lucas said, placing the orb on the floor.
Raijin snatched it up, clutching it against his chest. For several moments, nothing happened. Then slowly, the Zapdos closed his eyes, his form growing eerily still.
The orb began to glow brighter and faint lines of energy crawled up Raijin's talons, spreading across his body. The electric Pokemon trembled but maintained his grip on the orb.
Lucas activated his Insight skill, and his eyes widened in shock.
Raijin's level was rising rapidly—21, 22, 23—jumping upward as if someone had poured a mountain of experience points into him. But more surprising were the stats, which increased with each level gain.
The Blue Orb began to shrink, its surface dimpling inward as if being consumed from within. Tendrils of blue energy wrapped more tightly around Raijin, sinking beneath his feathers and into his body.
"He's absorbing the primal energy," Lucas whispered.
Hours passed as the process continued. Lucas monitored Raijin's parameters, watching in fascination as the legendary bird transformed. The orb grew smaller and smaller until finally, with one last pulse of light, it collapsed into nothingness.
Raijin opened his eyes. He stretched his wings, now traced with faint blue patterns that glowed beneath his golden feathers. A cry erupted from his beak—deeper, more resonant than before.
Lucas checked Raijin’s parameters:

"Hydro Thunder?" Lucas murmured, fascinated by the new move. "And these new traits..."
The legendary bird had transcended conventional typing. Raijin now wielded elemental combinations that shouldn't be possible, drawing power from his innate electric nature and the primal water energy he'd absorbed.
A notification chimed in his interface. He opened it to find another quest waiting:
=======
New Legendary Quest!
Primal Balance: Obtain the Red Orb for Raijin.
Reward: +2000 favourability with Raijin, +3 skill points.
=======
"You've got to be joking," Lucas muttered, staring at the notification. "First the Blue Orb, now the Red?"
Raijin tilted his head, watching Lucas with keen interest.
"The Red Orb belongs to Groudon," Lucas explained. "Taking the Blue Orb was dangerous enough. The Red Orb might be impossible."
It was likely still in Groudon’s possession. Not only did he have to find the Pokemon, but steal the Red Orb from it. A suicide mission.
He shook his head. This wasn't the time to be distracted. Nobody would punish him for ignoring the quest. However, if the Red Orb granted Raijin a power boost like the Blue Orb did, it was a temptation that was difficult to resist. He needed to consider the situation and do some research to find out if it was possible to take it from the legendary Pokemon. If his relationship with Rayquaza kept getting better, he might be able to gain its assistance.
Lucas snorted. “Not bloody likely.”
He returned Raijin to his pokeball. Before leaving, he needed to fulfil his obligation to Mr Stone and capture some fossil Pokemon. The benefits were too good to pass up.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Sabrina stood beside Lucas at the entrance to the Devon Corporation.
“Today we get to peek into the inner workings of the Devon Corporation’s fossil revival technology,” Lucas said. “Excited?”
“I’m not unfamiliar with it,” Sabrina replied. “The Silph Company is working on their own version of the technology.”
“But you don’t know what technology Devon has.”
“True enough. Do you think Mr Stone considered my connection to the Silph Company when he made his offer?”
“Probably not,” Lucas said. “He seems a little excitable. Maybe he has investigated us in our absence.”
“If he does, you’ll probably raise several red flags that will change his mind.”
"I think you win that one."
They passed through security with the visitor badges Mr Stone had arranged for them. The lift whisked them to the research level where a lab assistant in a white coat waited.
"Mr Walker, Miss Kuroi," she greeted them. "Mr Stone is expecting you in the secure laboratory. Please follow me."
The assistant led them through a series of corridors lined with reinforced doors. Scientists in various labs glanced up from their work as they passed, curious eyes following the visitors.
The secure laboratory occupied nearly half the floor. When the final door slid open, Mr Stone approached them with hands outstretched.
"Excellent timing!" His enthusiasm hadn't diminished since their last meeting. "The revival chamber is prepped and ready."
The laboratory stretched before them—a cavernous space filled with cutting-edge equipment. In the centre stood six cylindrical tanks connected to a complex network of pipes and monitoring systems. Each tank contained a different solution, ranging from clear to deep amber. Technicians moved between workstations, checking readings and adjusting controls.
"The revival process typically begins with genetic extraction," Mr Stone explained, guiding them toward the equipment. "But with living specimens, we can skip that process."
Lucas retrieved the six pokeballs from his belt. "Three breeding pairs, as promised. Omanyte, Kabuto, and Lileep."
Mr Stone's eyes widened. "Remarkable. And they're all in good health?"
"Perfect condition," Lucas confirmed.
A technician approached with a scanning device. "With your permission, I'll verify their vital signs."
Lucas handed over the pokeballs. The technician placed each one on a sensor pad and studied the readouts.
"All specimens show normal life signs," she reported. "Stress indicators within acceptable range."
Mr Stone nodded with satisfaction. "Excellent. Now, let's proceed with—"
A piercing alarm cut through the room, red warning lights flashing across the laboratory. The overhead speakers crackled to life.
"Security breach on levels three and four. All personnel implement lockdown protocol. This is not a drill."
The technicians began securing equipment and activating emergency measures as if they had practised the scenario before. Reinforced shutters descended over the external windows.
"What's happening?" Sabrina asked, already reaching for her pokeballs.
A security monitor on the wall switched to surveillance footage. Men and women in familiar red uniforms poured into the building's lower levels, their Pokemon attacking security barriers.
"Team Magma," Lucas hissed. "They must have learned about the fossil Pokemon."
"Our security teams will handle this," Mr Stone said, though his voice lacked conviction. "The laboratory is secure."
The door burst open. A security officer staggered in, his uniform singed and torn. "Sir, they've breached level five. They're heading straight for the secure labs."
Mr Stone's face hardened. "Evacuate all non-essential personnel. Trigger the specimen protection protocol."
The technicians rushed to secure critical research, backing up data and sealing sensitive materials in reinforced containers. Mr Stone hurried to a control panel and entered a complex code. The six revival tanks sank into the floor, mechanical shields rising to protect them.
"They're targeting our fossil research," Mr Stone explained grimly. "This isn't their first attempt."
Lucas turned to Sabrina. "Is it just a coincidence that they are attacking at the same time we are here?”
“Hell of a coincidence,” Sabrina said. “Unless someone leaked information about the Pokemon we brought.”
Mr Stone winced. “I informed the Board of Directors this morning. It seems I have a spy among my ranks.”
“It hardly matters at this point,’ Lucas said. “We need to hold them off."
Sabrina nodded. "I'll take the main corridor. You protect the lab and the Pokemon."
Before Lucas could respond, the wall to their left exploded inward. Concrete chunks and twisted metal flew across the room. A woman in a distinctive red uniform stepped through, her geometric haircut unmistakable even through the haze.
"Analysis begins," Courtney said. "Objective: acquire fossil Pokemon."
“Are you a robot?” Lucas called out. “Then let me speak your language. Analysis complete, and you have been found wanting. Objective: kick your ass.”
"You feel familiar," Courtney's gaze fixed on Lucas. "We have battled before."
A Mightyena stood next to her, but it was different from the one he encountered at Ocean Paradise. This one seemed much stronger.
Behind her, four Team Magma grunts spread out, their Pokemon ready for battle. A Camerupt stomped through the rubble, flames spurting from the humps on its back. Beside it, was a Weavile, ice crystals forming around its claws.
"GO!" Sabrina shouted, releasing her team. Ashura, Kasumi, and Xavier materialised in flashes of light, immediately spreading out to form a defensive line.
Lucas positioned himself beside Mr Stone and released Max. The massive Electivire towered over everyone in the room, electricity crackling between his fur as he took a protective stance in front of them.
Chaos erupted without warning. The Weavile sprang forward, claws extended in a blur of motion as razor-sharp Ice Shards manifested around its body. The frozen projectiles whistled through the air in a deadly barrage, forcing Sabrina's team to dive for cover.
Simultaneously, Camerupt planted its hooves firmly on the laboratory floor. The twin volcano humps on its back glowed cherry-red before erupting violently. Lava Plume exploded outward in a superheated wave that scorched equipment and melted plastic fixtures. The temperature in the room spiked instantly as thick, acrid smoke billowed across the laboratory.
Max assessed the situation in a split second. He charged through the smoke and launched a devastating Low Kick that connected with Camerupt's front legs. The fire-type's knees buckled, its substantial weight working against it as it crashed to the floor with a room-shaking impact.
Before Camerupt could recover, Max followed with Hammer Arm, the fighting-type move smashing into its side with enough force to send the bulky Pokemon skidding across the floor. Tiles cracked beneath its weight as it collided with a row of metal cabinets, denting the reinforced steel.
Meanwhile, Sarbina was in a battle of her own.
Xavier's eyes blazed as a Light Screen sprang to life, the psychic barrier expanding to cover their position just as a Houndoom emerged from the smoke. The dark-type's jaws parted, unleashing a Flamethrower that crashed against Xavier's barrier.
Simultaneously, Ashura vaulted over the barrier, his body a blur of motion. The Medicham landed in a combat stance directly in front of the advancing Weavile. Ice formed around the dark-type's claws as it slashed at Ashura's midsection. The fighting-type pivoted with dancer-like precision, the attack missing by millimetres. Ashura countered with Close Combat, his fists striking with machine-gun rapidity. Each blow connected with surgical precision—sternum, shoulder joint, knee, temple—targeting pressure points with devastating effect. The Weavile crumpled, its momentum carrying it into a skidding roll across the floor.
Lucas grabbed Mr Stone's arm, pulling the older man towards the reinforced door at the laboratory's rear. The Devon president clutched the pokeballs containing the fossil specimens against his chest.
"Inside. Now." Lucas shoved the scientist through the doorway. "Protect the specimens."
Mr Stone hesitated, his gaze darting to a bank of computers still running vital simulations. "The research—"
Lucas pushed him firmly across the threshold. "Not worth your life."
As the reinforced door sealed shut, Lucas spun to face the battlefield. The laboratory had transformed into a war zone in mere seconds. Shattered glass crunched underfoot as he navigated around fallen equipment. Emergency sprinklers activated overhead, water mixing with smoke to create a surreal, misty battlefield.
Courtney advanced through the haze.
"Acceptable damage parameters," she stated. "Primary objective identified."
So, what do you think? In the next chapter, the conclusion of the battle.
Thanks for reading.
