Pokemon: Resurgence Chapter 58
Added 2024-07-18 21:20:21 +0000 UTCHi all,
Here's the second chapter of the week. Lucas discovers something unsettling when he visits Looker, and meets the gym leader, Clemont.
Chapter 58
The nondescript building blended seamlessly into the Lumiose cityscape, its weathered facade a perfect camouflage among the quaint boutiques and cafes. Lucas and Sabrina approached the door, its peeling paint and rusted hinges adding to the illusion of abandonment.
A sign, tarnished with age and neglect, hung askew. Its engraving, barely legible, read “WARNING: Unsafe Structure."
"That would keep people out," Lucas mused.
Sabrina rapped on the door. A moment passed before the door creaked open. Looker's sharp features emerged from the shadows, his eyes darting left and right before focusing on them. Without a word, he ushered them inside with a quick, urgent gesture.
"Quickly now," he muttered, his voice low and gravelly. His gaze swept the street one last time before he shut the door, the multiple locks clicking into place with finality.
The interior was a stark contrast to its mundane exterior. They found themselves in a hub of covert activity. Monitors flickered with endless streams of data, their soft blue glow casting eerie shadows. A large digital map of Kalos dominated one wall, with various points pulsing with red light.
The air was thick with the scent of old coffee and the ozone smell of electronics. A faint hum of machinery provided a constant backdrop, punctuated by the occasional beep from one of the many devices scattered around the room.
Looker led them through this maze of technology to a cluttered desk at the far end. "Please, sit," he said, gesturing to two chairs before settling into his worn leather seat.
“What’s with all the secrecy?” Lucas asked.
"In my line of work, you make a lot of enemies," Looker explained. “You don’t want to advertise where you live.”
That sounded like an extremely paranoid and depressing way to live.
Lucas sank into one of the offered chairs. His gaze wandered, taking in the organised chaos of the office. Papers covered every surface, their edges curling with age and use. Half-empty coffee mugs formed a small army on the desk, rings staining the wood beneath them. A half-eaten sandwich, long forgotten, sat forlornly on a chipped plate.
Sabrina leaned forward. "So, Detective," she began, "what do you want to know?"
Looker's fingers steepled under his chin, his elbows resting on the cluttered desk. "Everything," Looker said. "Start from the beginning. Your encounter with Team Flare at the ruins—leave nothing out."
Lucas and Sabrina took turns recounting the events. They described the discovery of the hidden chamber and the resulting cave-in. Then came the attack, with unexpected chaos, shouts, and explosions. The Pokemon battles outside the ruins, where dozens of Team Flare members attempt to bully their way into the ruins.
"They seemed desperate to get into that chamber," Lucas added, his brow furrowing at the memory. "Like they knew something was there, something specific."
Looker nodded, his pen scratching furiously across a worn notebook. The sound seemed unnaturally loud in the pause that followed. "And you say they were led by a man named Xerosic?" he asked, looking up from his notes.
"Yes," Sabrina confirmed, her voice steady. "Portly man, fiery red hair, strange goggles. He carried himself like a scientist, not a typical Team Flare member.”
"Interesting." Looker's brow furrowed, creating deep lines across his forehead. He leaned back, his chair protesting with a loud creak. "We've had our eye on Xerosic for a while now. He's been linked to several... incidents."
Lucas leaned forward, the leather of his chair squeaking. "What kind of incidents?" he asked, curiosity and concern mingling in his voice.
"There was a break-in at the Power Plant a few months ago," Looker began, his voice low as if sharing a secret. "Nothing was stolen, at least nothing tangible. However, several systems were accessed, and data was copied. We suspect Team Flare, but we can't prove it."
"What would they want with a power plant?" Sabrina mused, her brow creasing in thought.
"That's the million-pokedollar question," Looker replied. He stood abruptly and began pacing behind his desk, his shoes making soft sounds on the worn carpet. "Team Flare's motives are unclear. But they are planning something big. I will spend time investigating them, which is why I’m so paranoid."
Lucas's gaze drifted as Looker spoke, taking in more details of the cluttered office. His eyes landed on a bulletin board on the far wall, nearly hidden behind stacks of files. News clippings, photographs, and handwritten notes covered its surface, connected by a web of red string. One article caught his attention. The bold headline leapt off the page: "Man Claims to be from Another World —Delusion or Something More?"
His heart skipped a beat and then started racing. Another world. Earth. The memory of Palkia's attack flashed through his mind. There was one more person who died at Palkia’s hands. The pilot inside the fighter jet. Could it be...?
"Detective," Lucas said. "What's this about a man from another world?"
Looker stopped his pacing, following Lucas's gaze to the article. "Ah, that," he said, waving a hand as if brushing away a troublesome fly. "Bit of an oddity, that one. A man appeared in Slateport City in the Hoenn region a few months back, raving about being from a place called 'Earth.' He claimed our world was just a game where he came from. Can you imagine?"
Lucas's mouth went dry. He felt Sabrina's concerned gaze but couldn't tear his eyes from the article.
Looker continued, oblivious to Lucas's reaction. His voice took on the tone of someone discussing a mildly interesting but ultimately unimportant topic. "Poor fellow's clearly delusional. He's been committed to a psychiatric facility. He keeps babbling about Pokemon not being real where he comes from, about technology we've never heard of. It's sad, really."
"Have you... have you spoken to him?" Lucas managed to ask, his voice sounding strained even to his own ears.
Looker shook his head, turning to his desk and sitting down. "No need. It's not related to any of my current cases. He’s an unfortunate man who's lost touch with reality. We get cases like this sometimes, you know. It's usually a coping mechanism for trauma or mental illness."
Could it really be? Another person from Earth, trapped in this world like him? The possibilities, and the implications, were staggering. Had no one considered that there were legendaries that could travel through dimensions?
Why were the man’s circumstances different from his own? Didn’t he receive any special abilities from Arceus, or other benefits that would help him acclimatise to the Pokemon world? Did the man refuse to face reality and want to return to his world?
Sabrina's hand on his arm brought him back into the present. Her eyes held a silent question, concern etched in the slight furrow of her brow. He gave a barely perceptible shake of his head. Not now.
"What can we do to help?" Sabrina finally asked, breaking the silence.
Looker's expression softened slightly, a hint of gratitude breaking through his professional facade. "Keep your eyes open. If you see any Team Flare activity, report it immediately. But don't engage them unless necessary. They're dangerous, and we don't know the full extent of their capabilities."
Lucas nodded, but his thoughts were already elsewhere. He needed to travel to Slateport City to meet this man, who claimed to be from Earth. It wasn’t urgent, as the man had been here for the same time as Lucas, and no one believed his claims. But Lucas was curious about what the man knew and whether he had received any messages from Arceus.
"Thank you both for coming," Looker said. "Your information is invaluable. We'll be in touch if we need anything else."
As they made their way to the door, navigating around stacks of files and humming equipment, Lucas glanced at the article, committing the details of the man’s location to memory.
Lucas and Sabrina walked in silence for a while, both lost in thought.
Finally, Sabrina spoke, her voice low but intense. "Lucas, that article... what aren’t you telling me?"
Lucas sighed, running a hand through his hair. "I wasn’t the only one killed by Palkia. There was another victim. I always wondered if Arceus gave him the same treatment, sending me to this world. Now that I know the truth, I wonder why our circumstances are so different.”
“You didn’t go off the deep end and tell everyone that you were from another world,” Sabrina pointed out.
Lucas nodded. "I suppose so, but if he had my ability, he might have handled it better." The more I learn, the more I believe Arceus deliberately killed me and brought me to this world. Or, at the very least, he used the opportunity to experiment with me for some specific goal."
He met her gaze, seeing the concern and unwavering support in her eyes.
"You're overthinking," Sabrina assured. "Even if that's the case, it doesn't diminish your agency. You've never met Arceus. It must not be too concerned about you if it allows you to live as you please."
Lucas chuckled, feeling a weight lift from his shoulders. “You're right. Let’s forget about this topic and continue exploring the city.”

The gleaming spire of Prism Tower cut through the Lumiose skyline, its metallic surface reflecting the afternoon sun. Lucas and Sabrina stood at the base, craning their necks to take in the structure's full height. It reminded Lucas of the Eiffel Tower, but that was no surprise. The Prism Tower’s design was based on it.
"Impressive, isn't it?" Sabrina mused, shielding her eyes from the glare.
Lucas nodded, still processing the grandeur of the tower. "It's like nothing we have in Kanto. It would have been a shame not to visit the place before we left the city."
They approached the entrance, and a sleek set of automatic doors slid open with a soft hiss. The lobby was a marvel of modern design—all gleaming surfaces and holographic displays. A receptionist greeted them with a polite smile.
"I’m Miss Kuroi. We’re here to see Clemont," Sabrina stated, her tone carrying an air of authority.
The receptionist's eyes widened slightly in recognition. "Of course, Miss Kuroi. Mr. Clemont is expecting you. Please, take the elevator to the top floor."
As they stepped into the glass-walled elevator, Lucas raised an eyebrow at Sabrina. "Expected, huh?"
She shrugged, a small smile playing on her lips. "I called him earlier. The Kuroi family has investments in the Silph Company, and Clemont is well-known in the technological field, so we have met before when he visited the city."
“Is that why this place seems so advanced?” Lucas asked.
“I bet everything runs on electricity, so it doesn’t violate Arceus’ mandate on using fossil fuels,” Sabrina said. “Still, it seems like this place is more advanced than most places. Especially the holographic displays.”
The elevator shot upwards at dizzying speed, offering a panoramic view of Lumiose City. Lucas felt his stomach lurch, grateful when they finally came to a stop.
The doors opened to reveal a vast, circular room. It was part laboratory, part workshop, and part futuristic command centre. Screens and holographic displays covered the walls, showing data streams and blueprints. Half-finished inventions and scattered tools cluttered every surface.
A young man with spiky blonde hair and round glasses stood in the centre. He turned at their entrance, a wide grin spreading across his face.
"Sabrina! Welcome to my humble abode," he exclaimed, spreading his arms wide. His gaze shifted to Lucas, curiosity evident in his eyes. "And you must be Lucas. I've heard interesting things about you."
Lucas blinked, caught off guard. "You have?"
Clemont's grin widened. "Oh yes, word travels fast in certain circles. Yours and Sabrina’s heroics in stopping Giovanni and confronting a legendary Pokemon have reached the Kalos region as well."
Before Lucas could respond, Clemont was already moving on, his energy palpable as he led them deeper into the lab. "But where are my manners? Welcome to the heart of Lumiose City's technological advancements!"
They weaved through the maze of inventions, with Clemont pointing out various projects with unbridled enthusiasm. "This," he said, gesturing to a large, egg-shaped pod, "is my latest experiment in Pokemon healing technology. Theoretically, it should be able to restore a Pokemon to full health in half the time of a standard Pokecenter machine."
Sabrina leaned in for a closer look. "Impressive. Have you tested it yet?"
Clemont's smile faltered slightly. "Well, not exactly. The last attempt resulted in a minor... explosion. But progress is all about learning from failures, right?"
Lucas suppressed a chuckle, reminded of his alchemical mishaps.
They moved to a corner of the lab that seemed to be dedicated to robotics. A humanoid figure stood motionless, its metallic surface gleaming under the harsh laboratory lights.
"Ah, now this is something special," Clemont said, his voice filled with pride. "Meet the Clembot, my robotic double!"
The robot's eyes flickered to life, glowing a soft blue. "Greetings," it said, its voice a near-perfect imitation of Clemont's. "I am Clembot, Lumiose City Gym Leader."
Lucas's jaw dropped. "You're replacing yourself with a robot?"
Clemont laughed. "Not replacing, no. More like... supplementing. The Clembot will handle routine gym battles, freeing me up for more research and invention. It's programmed with all my battle strategies and can adapt to different challenges and skill levels."
Sabrina circled the robot, her expression a mix of intrigue and scepticism. "It's an interesting concept, but doesn't it take away from the personal touch of gym battles?"
"That's a valid concern," Clemont said. "But think of the possibilities! With Clembot handling the day-to-day battles, I can focus on pushing the boundaries of Pokemon science and technology. Plus, it ensures the gym is always open, even when I'm called away for Elite Four duties."
"Is he ready to go?" Lucas asked.
Clemont shook his head. "Several issues need resolving before he can operate effectively. Power consumption is a major one."
"I imagine that would be an issue," Lucas mused. "Though being an electric-type gym leader must help."
"It does," Clemont agreed. "But it's still inefficient. Clembot's AI requires massive computational power. I'm searching for a method that doesn't require recharging every few hours."
Clemont's eyes gleamed as he pushed up his glasses. "It involves the Electirizer Potion. I want to take it further and create a substance that can absorb and utilise electricity more efficiently. I am talking five to ten times more efficiently than usual."
"That would revolutionise energy consumption," Sabrina said. "But the demand would be astronomical. You'd strip the world of Thunder Stones in no time."
"It's a challenge," Clemont admitted. "I'm aiming for a design where a small portion goes a long way. Even then, it won't replace traditional methods entirely."
The idea sparked Lucas's imagination. He never thought about using potions to serve such a purpose. "Have you made much progress?"
"Not really. It's outside my expertise. I've put out a request to the Alchemist's Guild, but no one has succeeded yet."
"Is the request open to all ranks?" Lucas asked, intrigued.
Clemont nodded. "Are you an alchemist? Want to try your hand?"
"I might. Do you provide the Electirizer recipe?"
"I bought the patent specifically for that purpose," Clemont confirmed.
They continued with their tour. Lucas' attention was drawn to a peculiar device in the corner. It looked like a cross between a camera and a small robot, with various lenses and appendages protruding from its boxy frame.
"What's this?" he asked, pointing to the strange contraption.
Clemont's eyes lit up. "Ah, excellent eye, Lucas! It's the Pokestar Shooter, my latest invention for capturing Pokemon battles in stunning detail."
He picked up the device, cradling it like a prized possession. "It's a fully autonomous camera robot. It can track Pokemon movements, anticipate attack trajectories, and capture every moment of a battle from the perfect angle. It even has slow-motion and multi-angle replay capabilities!"
Lucas whistled, impressed. "That could revolutionise Pokemon battle broadcasts."
"Exactly!" Clemont beamed. "Imagine watching championship matches with this level of detail and immersion. It's still in the prototype phase, but early tests have been promising."
Clemont's expression suddenly turned serious. "There's something else I wanted to discuss, Sabrina. It's about Porygon."
Sabrina's guard instantly went up. "Porygon? How do you know about that?"
Clemont lowered his voice conspiratorially. "It's my business to know. Porygon is key to unlocking a new field of technology, but Silph Co. keeps it under wraps."
He looked at Sabrina hopefully. "Given your family's connection, I was wondering if you might have any insights... or access to their Porygon data?"
Sabrina raised an eyebrow. "Clemont, you know I can't share proprietary information. We're still running tests before even considering introducing Porygon to other regions. If criminal organisations learned about it..."
Clemont's face fell, but he nodded. "Of course, I respect that. It's just... the potential applications are staggering. Imagine a Porygon tailored for search and rescue, deep-sea exploration, even space travel!"
"I'll have to ask my uncle," Sabrina said. "It's not up to me. But he'll expect something in return."
"I wouldn't mind one of those Pokestar Shooters when they're ready," Lucas said wistfully.
Sabrina snorted.
As their discussion wound down, Clemont's enthusiasm seemed to have only grown. "This is exactly why I love having visitors! Fresh perspectives, challenging questions—it's the lifeblood of scientific progress."
He turned to a nearby workbench, rummaging through a pile of gadgets before producing two small devices. "Here, I want you both to have these. They're prototype Holo Casters - advanced communication devices that can project holographic images of the caller."
Lucas accepted the device, turning it over in his hands. It was sleek and lightweight, with a smooth touchscreen interface.
"They're still in the testing phase," Clemont explained, "but they should be able to communicate between Kalos and the Kanto region. Consider it a thank you for the stimulating conversation—and maybe an incentive to stay in touch and share any interesting Pokemon data you come across in your travels?"
Sabrina pocketed her Holo Caster. "Subtle, Clemont. Very subtle."
As they prepared to leave, Clemont walked them back to the elevator. "It's been a pleasure having you both here. Please, feel free to visit anytime. My door is always open to fellow seekers of knowledge!"
The elevator doors closed, leaving Lucas and Sabrina alone as they descended back to the ground floor. Lucas turned the Holo Caster over in his hands, his mind still buzzing with the implications of their conversation.
They stepped out of Prism Tower and back into the bustling streets of Lumiose City,
"So," Sabrina said, "where to next?”
“I want to head to the alchemist guild,” Lucas replied. “I would like to grab the request. I won’t have time to work on it anytime soon, but I need to accept it now and grab the recipe for the Electirizer.”
He paused as something occurred to him. “That vendor ripped me off! I could have grabbed the recipe for the Electirizer from the guild and made it myself.”
Sabrina smirked. “At least you got some other items out of it.”

The following morning, Lucas and Sabrina set out for the museum. The streets, usually bustling with activity, were oddly quiet. As they turned the corner, they were met with an unexpected sight. Police barricades blocked the road, their yellow tape fluttering in the morning breeze. Officers milled about, their faces grim and focused. The museum loomed behind them, its grand facade now a backdrop to a crime scene.
"What in the world...?" Lucas muttered, exchanging a worried glance with Sabrina.
As they approached the barricade, a familiar figure caught their eye. Detective Looker stood amidst the chaos, his trench coat billowing slightly in the wind. His eyes locked onto them, a mix of recognition and concern flashing across his face.
"You two," he called out, ducking under the police tape to meet them. "I should have known you'd show up here."
"Detective, what's happened?" Sabrina asked.
Looker's expression darkened. "The museum was broken into last night. It was a professional job—they bypassed state-of-the-art security systems like they were child's locks."
A chill ran down Lucas's spine. "The stone tablet from the ruins. Was it...?"
Looker nodded grimly. "Gone. Along with several other artefacts, but it's clear the tablet was the main target."
Lucas felt his heart sink. What possible reason would they have for stealing the tablet? Was there something about it he had overlooked?
"Do you have any leads?" Sabrina asked, her voice steady despite the tension evident in her posture.
Looker ran a hand through his dishevelled hair. "Nothing concrete yet. But this has Team Flare written all over it. The precision, the specific target... it fits their M.O."
He lowered his voice, leaning in closer. "Listen, I shouldn't be telling you this, but... we found something odd at the scene. A calling card of sorts."
Lucas and Sabrina leaned in, their curiosity piqued.
"It was a holographic message," Looker continued. "It said, 'The world's beauty shall be restored.' Ring any bells?"
Lucas grimaced. "That sounds like..."
"Team Flare," Sabrina finished.
Looker nodded. "Exactly. There are no leads to go on, but I won’t let the likes of Team Flare get the better of me.”
Looker glanced around, ensuring no one was within earshot. "This is a police matter. But unofficially... You two seem to have a knack for being in the right place at the right time. I would appreciate it if you pass along anything you find."
As Looker was called back to the crime scene, Lucas and Sabrina stepped away from the commotion, their minds whirling with this new development.
"So much for our museum visit," Lucas said, attempting to lighten the mood.
“This may be related to the symbols you saw on the walls,” Sabrina told him. “Is it possible that Team Flare is looking for Zygarde’s Cores and Cells? Can the tablet tell them something about their location?”
Lucas shrugged. “It’s something to keep in mind. I might have to start looking for Cores and Cells sooner than expected. For the time being, we will leave it up to Looker to see what he can find."

The room hummed with the soft bubbling of alchemical concoctions, a symphony of glass clinking and liquids simmering. Lucas and Sabrina had secured a suite at the prestigious Hotel Richissime, which also had an alchemical room. The room, a perfect blend of luxury and functionality, allowed Lucas to continue his work on the affinity potion without interruption.
Lucas stood hunched over his alchemy pot, his brow furrowed with concentration. Bunches of ingredients for his rock affinity potion littered the table, which he had been experimenting with for several hours.
"Just a pinch more crushed evolution stone," he muttered, carefully tipping a fine powder into the bubbling mixture.
The flame danced obediently under Lucas's expert control. He watched, transfixed, as the mixture began its transformation. The deep amber liquid swirled hypnotically, gradually deepening into a rich, earthy brown reminiscent of sun-baked clay.
Lucas held his breath, every muscle taut with anticipation. Seconds stretched into eternity as the potion simmered, tiny bubbles rising to the surface in a captivating ballet. Then, almost imperceptibly, it began to settle. It was a good sign.
After he judged the potion was finished, he levitated the liquid into a bowl. He reached for his guidebook and flipped to the new potions page. A grin spread across his face when he saw the entry and read its contents. According to the description, his affinity potion improved upon the base potion by twenty-five percent. Coupled with his Pokémon Habitat technique, this breakthrough meant his Pokémon could increase their affinity at an unprecedented rate.
"I think we've done it, Max," Lucas said.
Max grunted in satisfaction. “We should work on an electric-affinity potion next.”
Lucas chuckled, carefully pouring the potion into a glass vial. The liquid caught the light, seeming to glow from within. "I think you might be a little biassed there, buddy."
As he closed the vial, an overwhelming sensation overcame him. It was as if an invisible hand had reached out and tugged at the edges of his consciousness. A presence, both familiar and alien, made itself known. His hand froze mid-motion, the vial hovering precariously inches above the table.
"What the..." he whispered, his eyes losing focus as he tried to pinpoint the source of this strange feeling.
It was faint, barely there, but undeniable. Something was calling to him, pulling at the very core of his being. And it was coming from somewhere within the sprawling metropolis of Lumiose City.
Lucas set the vial down carefully, his mind racing with possibilities. Could it be...? No, it was impossible. And yet...
"Sabrina," he called out, his voice urgent. "We need to go. Now."
Sabrina emerged from the bedroom, wrapped in a plush hotel bathrobe, her hair damp from a recent shower. "What's going on?" she asked, instantly alert despite her relaxed appearance.
Meowth materialised from the shadows, his eyes narrowed in curiosity. "Yes, what's the rush, partner?"
"I'm not sure," Lucas admitted, already moving towards the exit, grabbing his jacket from a nearby chair. "But I think... I think it might be one of Zygarde's Cores."
Meowth's eyes widened, but he didn't hesitate. In a flash, he was by Lucas's side, tail twitching in anticipation. Sabrina, reading the urgency in Lucas's voice, disappeared back into her room to get dressed.
Moments later, they emerged onto the bustling streets of Lumiose City. The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the pavement, painting the city in hues of gold and amber. Lucas closed his eyes for a moment, focusing on the strange sensation. It was stronger now, more insistent, pulling him like an invisible thread.
"This way," he said, weaving through the crowded streets.
They navigated the city's labyrinth, Lucas following the invisible pull like a compass needle drawn to the north. The sensation led them down bustling avenues lined with chic boutiques and past quiet side streets where locals sipped coffee at quaint cafés.
Lucas finally found the location he was looking for. The elegant façade of Lysandre Café stood before them, its windows gleaming in the late afternoon light. Lucas hesitated at the entrance, the strange feeling now a persistent buzz at the back of his mind.
"It's coming from there," he whispered to Sabrina and Meowth.
Sabrina nodded, her eyes scanning the building. "We need to play this cool. Let's go in, act naturally, and see what we can find out."
They pushed open the polished oak door, stepping into an interior that exuded understated luxury. Rich wooden panelling adorned the walls, while plush velvet chairs surrounded small, intimate tables. Despite the hour, the café was only half full, with a soft murmur of conversation filling the air.
A hostess approached, her smile polite and professional. "Welcome to Lysandre Café. Table for two?"
"Yes, please," Sabrina replied smoothly.
Lucas' eyes darted around as they were led to a table near the back of the café, looking for anything unusual. The pull of the Zygarde Core was stronger now, but he couldn't pinpoint its exact location.
They settled into their seats, Meowth curling up at Lucas's feet. A waiter appeared almost immediately, handing them ornate menus.
"While we decide," Lucas said, forcing a casual tone, "could you tell us a bit about this place? It's our first time here."
The waiter's chest swelled with pride. "Certainly, sir. Lysandre Café is the pinnacle of Lumiose City dining. Our owner, Mr. Lysandre himself, ensures that every aspect of the café meets his exacting standards. We're particularly known for our coffee, sourced from the finest beans in Kalos."
As the waiter continued his spiel, Lucas caught Sabrina's eye. She gave an almost imperceptible nod. They recognised the name of the man they briefly met in Couriway Town.
They ordered their food. As the waiter departed, Lucas leaned in close to Meowth.
"Time to do your thing, buddy," he whispered. "Be careful, and don't take any unnecessary risks."
Meowth's eyes glinted with mischief. "Don't worry, partner. I'll be back before your food gets cold."
With that, Meowth activated his Shadow Veil ability, fading into near invisibility. He slunk away from the table, weaving between the legs of unsuspecting patrons.
Lucas and Sabrina engaged in casual conversation, their eyes occasionally scanning the room. The tension was palpable between them, masked by forced smiles and light topics.
Meanwhile, Meowth was hard at work. He slipped through the kitchen, past busy chefs and waitstaff, his keen eyes searching for anything suspicious. The scent of delicious food was almost overwhelming, but Meowth stayed focused on his mission.
It was in a back storage room that Meowth hit pay dirt. Behind a stack of crates, he noticed a faint shimmer in the air— the telltale sign of a hi-tech holographic concealment.
Cautiously, Meowth approached. As he neared, the illusion flickered, revealing the outline of a door. Next to it was a sophisticated keypad, its surface glowing faintly.
Back in the dining area, Lucas and Sabrina's food had arrived. They ate slowly, their eyes constantly darting to the back of the café, waiting for any sign of Meowth.
Just as Lucas was beginning to worry, he felt a familiar presence brush against his leg. Glancing down, he saw Meowth materialising beneath the tablecloth.
"Well?" Lucas asked under his breath.
Meowth's whiskers twitched with excitement. "Oh, partner, you won't believe what I found. There's a secret door in the back, hidden by some fancy tech. Leads somewhere underground, I'd wager."
Sabrina leaned in, her voice barely audible. "Any idea where it goes?"
Meowth shook his head. "I couldn't get past the security. It's tight—way more than you'd expect for a simple café."
Lucas felt a mix of excitement and apprehension coursing through him. They were onto something big. "Good work, Meowth. We'll figure out our next move once we're out of here."
As they finished their meal and paid the bill, Lucas cast one last glance around the café. It was hard to imagine that the cafe was concealing such a secret.
They stepped out of the Lysandre Café. Lucas's mind raced with the implications of Meowth's discovery, the presence of the Zygarde Core still tugging at his senses.
"We need to figure out how to get past that security system," Sabrina murmured, her voice low and tense.
Lucas nodded, about to respond, when a smooth, cultured voice cut through the night air.
"Ah, what a pleasant surprise. I hope you enjoyed your meal."
They turned to see a tall man with fiery red hair approaching, his piercing gaze fixed upon them. Recognition flickered in Lucas's mind. Lysandre himself, the man they'd met briefly in Couriway Town.
"Mr. Lysandre," Lucas managed, fighting to keep his voice steady. "We didn't expect to run into you here."
Lysandre's lips curled into a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "This is my establishment, after all. I try to make an appearance when I can. I must say, I'm intrigued to find you both here. Your reputation precedes you."
Sabrina stepped forward, her posture relaxed but alert. "We've heard great things about your café. It certainly lived up to expectations."
Lysandre nodded, reaching into his pocket and producing two sleek business cards. "Please contact me if you are interested in embarking on a great endeavour. I have a feeling we could do great things together."
As they accepted the cards, Lucas couldn't shake the feeling that they'd just stepped onto a dangerous path.
"Well, I won't keep you," Lysandre said, his gaze sweeping the street. "Enjoy your evening in our beautiful city."
With a final nod, Lysandre turned and strode towards the café, his tall figure cutting an imposing silhouette against the warm light spilling from the windows.
“Do you think Lysandre is a part of Team Flare?” Lucas asked.
“There’s a good chance.”
“We need to move fast,” Lucas said. “Who knows how long the Core will remain there? If Lysandre suspects something, he won’t hesitate to move it.”
Sabrina nodded. “We will hit the building tonight when everyone’s asleep.”
So, what do you think? In the next chapter, Lucas and Sabrina infiltrate Lysandre’s Lab.
Thanks for reading.
