Pokemon: Resurgence Chapter 57
Added 2024-07-17 20:46:18 +0000 UTCHi all,
Here’s the first chapter of the week. Lucas and Sabrina finish up at the dig site and travel to Lumiose City, where they meet a familiar character.
Chapter 57
The soft hum of machinery filled the air in Lysandre Labs, a stark contrast to the tense silence that had fallen over the gathered Team Flare scientists. At the centre of the room stood Lysandre himself, his imposing figure casting a long shadow across the polished floor. A trembling man stood before Lysandre, head bowed in shame. His uniform, usually pristine, was dishevelled and stained with what appeared to be blood.
Lysandre wasn’t paying attention to the man. He was looking at a small, pulsating object that appeared to glow with an otherworldly light—a Zygarde Core. It was contained within an inverse energy capsule, a container that generates energy waves that are the opposite of those emitted by the Zygarde Core, effectively neutralising its power. It was unable to move or communicate with the other cores and cells.
He turned his back on the trembling man. “Grab him and tie him down.”
Two of his comrades grabbed the man and dragged him, kicking and screaming, to a table. They hoisted him and restrained him with the attached restraints.
"Gentlemen," Lysandre began, his voice low and measured, "what you see before you aren’t merely a part of a legendary Pokémon. It is the key to reshaping our world."
He turned and gestured towards a large screen behind him. The display flickered to life, showing a complex diagram of what appeared to be an enormous machine. Its design was unlike anything the scientists had ever seen, a fusion of ancient artistry and futuristic technology.
"For years, we've been led to believe that Zygarde was simply a protector, a guardian of the ecosystem," Lysandre continued. "But our discoveries in the ruins have revealed a truth far more profound. The ancients didn't just respect Zygarde—they found a way to harness its power."
"This weapon," Lysandre said, gesturing to the diagram, "is a conduit, a means to amplify and direct Zygarde’s Core and Cells on a scale our ancestors could only dream of. We don’t even require Zygarde to use it."
He held up the Core, its glow reflecting in his eyes. "Each Core, each Cell we collect, is another piece of the puzzle. Another step towards activation." He inserted the Core into a receptacle on a nearby console. The machine hummed to life, and the scientists gasped as readings began to flood their screens.
"Incredible," one of them muttered. "The energy output is off the charts!"
Lysandre nodded, a grim smile on his face. "And this is but a fraction of its potential. Imagine what we could achieve with the complete set."
He turned back to the group, his expression intense. "Our world is sick, gentlemen. Poisoned by greed, by waste, by the very progress we once celebrated. But with this weapon, we have the power to cure it. To reset the balance. To create a truly beautiful world."
One of the scientists, a younger man with a nervous demeanour, spoke up. "But, sir, the ecological impact of such a device... it could be catastrophic. We're talking about fundamental changes to the planet's systems."
Lysandre's gaze hardened. "And is that not precisely what our world needs? A catastrophe to cleanse it of its ills?" He softened slightly, placing a hand on the scientist's shoulder. "Change is never easy, my friend. But it is necessary."
He walked to a large window overlooking Lumiose City, its lights twinkling in the distance. "The ancients understood this. They created this weapon not out of malice, but out of a desire for harmony. They sought to guide nature, and shape it into its most perfect form."
Lysandre's voice took on a dreamy quality. "Imagine a world where the ecosystem is in perfect balance. No longer stained by the taint of humans and Pokemon. Where beauty and order reign supreme. That is the world we will create."
He turned back to the group, his eyes blazing with determination. "But to achieve this, we need every Cell, every Core. Our operatives are scouring the region as we speak, but we face... obstacles."
Lysandre gestured to the restrained man. “This…imbecile, almost ruined everything. When I told him to cause a distraction, I didn’t mean to attack the ruins directly, causing them to collapse. Imagine my rage when I discovered the secret chamber buried under rubble."
“Sir, I can make up for my mistake,” the man pleaded.
Lysandre's eyes narrowed as he regarded the trembling man. "Your failure cannot go unpunished.”
Raising his hand, he conjured a swirling flame above it, its presence brought to life by his aura. The restrained man watched in a trance, his eyes filled with a blend of astonishment and fear. Lysandre moved the flame closer to the man's face, and the heat caused beads of sweat to form on his skin.
Lysandre closed his hand, extinguishing the flame. “However, death would be too easy, too quick. No, I have something far more fitting in mind."
He pressed a button on his console, and a holographic screen flickered to life. On it, the grunt saw his family—his wife and young daughter—going about their day, unaware they were being watched.
"Sir, please," the man whispered, his face pale with horror.
Lysandre's voice was cold. "Your identity will be erased. Your family will be told you died a hero, fighting for our cause. They will be well compensated, of course. But you? You will live, knowing you can never see them again, and your daughter will grow up without a father—all because of your incompetence."
He gestured to two other Team Flare members. "Take him to work in the mines. He can spend the rest of his days there, thinking of his family and reflecting on his mistakes."
As the man was dragged away, his anguished cries echoing through the lab, Lysandre turned back to the assembled scientists. "Let this be a lesson. Failure doesn't just cost you—it costs everything you hold dear."
Silence reigned in the lab. Every scientist shared nervous glances, their eyes darting between Lysandre and the door through which the unfortunate grunt had been dragged. The air was thick with tension, each person acutely aware that a single misstep could seal their fate.
Lysandre's piercing gaze swept across the room, his eyes lingering on each scientist in turn. The weight of his scrutiny was palpable, causing even the most seasoned researchers to fidget uncomfortably. When he finally spoke, his voice was calm, but underlined with a dangerous edge.
"The chamber's collapse was... unfortunate," Lysandre began, his lips curling into a faint sneer. "It has denied us the immediate knowledge of the other Cores' and Cells' locations. However, fortune favours the prepared mind, and we are nothing if not prepared."
He pressed a button on the console. The holographic screen flickered, and a new image materialised - a large stone tablet covered in ancient stone glyphs. The scientists leaned forward, their scientific curiosity momentarily overriding their fear.
"This tablet was taken out of the chamber before it was buried under rubble," Lysandre continued. "It may hold the key to unlocking the locations of the remaining Cores and Cells. I have been informed it has been moved to the Lumiose City Museum."
A man in an impeccably tailored black suit stepped forward. "Sir, allow me the honour of retrieving the tablet. I assure you, failure is not in my vocabulary."
Lysandre turned to the man, his expression unreadable. "Your eagerness is commendable, Chalmers. However, the museum's security is not to be underestimated. They have recently upgraded their systems, and the tablet is likely under the highest level of protection."
He paused, his eyes narrowing in thought. "No, we must approach this with caution and precision. I will personally oversee the planning of this operation. We cannot afford another... incident."
The unspoken threat hung in the air, causing Chalmers to swallow hard before bowing deeply and stepping back into line.
Lysandre turned back to the assembled group, his expression hardening. "Time is of the essence, but haste makes waste. I expect you to perform your duties well, or you will suffer the same fate as your comrade. Is that understood?"
A chorus of "Yes, sir!" echoed through the lab.
Lysandre turned to the console and ran his hand over it almost reverently. "We stand on the precipice of a new world, my friends. A world of our making. We must see this through, regardless of the cost or sacrifice.”
As if in response, the Core pulsed brightly, its glow filling the room. Lysandre's face was illuminated, his features cast in an almost divine light. In that instant, he looked less like a man and more like a force of nature—implacable, unstoppable, and utterly convinced of its righteousness.

The morning after acquiring Raphael, Lucas and Sabrina returned to their dig site. Lucas then revealed his secret base to Sabrina, causing her eyes to widen in surprise when the hidden door appeared in the boulder.
"Lucas," she breathed, "this is incredible. When did you do this?"
He grinned, leading her inside. "Remember that night I went for a walk? Well, I did a bit more than just walk."
They spent the rest of the day purchasing furniture, decorations, and other necessities to make the base more comfortable. Lucas insisted on hanging some of Raphael's paintings, which pleased the Pokemon. They checked out of the hotel, and the secret base became their new temporary home as they continued their hunt for Mega Stones.
Over the next few days, Lucas dedicated time to bonding with his newest team members, Nero and Raphael. The latter was an endless source of amusement. The artistic Squirtle had taken to painting everything in sight, including Lucas's shoes, when he wasn't looking. Lucas spent a lot of time cleaning off colourful paw prints, but he couldn't help but smile at Raphael's enthusiasm.
Nero, initially standoffish, was slowly warming up to Lucas. The Sandile's aggressive nature was tempered by Lucas's patient approach and Sabrina’s attention. Once Nero reached the Liked status, he became even more cooperative, and Lucas utilised his ability to search for Mega Stones.
Each morning, Nero used his Sand Diver ability to search beneath the surface. His efforts paid off. They unearthed several Mega Stones, each discovery met with excitement, but it was the Medichamite that caught their attention.
"This is perfect for Ashura!" Sabrina said, referring to her Medicham. The psychic-fighting type had been with her for years so she was happy he got the chance to Mega Evolve as well.
Lucas spent his evenings conducting alchemy experiments. The secret base's alchemy room proved to be the ideal workspace, allowing him to experiment late into the night without disturbing anyone.
His current project, a potion to reset effort values, was proving exceptionally challenging. Every attempt failed, with the concoctions either too weak to produce any effect or so volatile that they would explode into colourful puffs of smoke.
"Maybe I'm approaching this wrong," Lucas muttered, staring at his latest failed attempt. His guidebook was open to the potions page, so he would immediately notice if he succeeded in making the potion.
Sabrina, who had taken to watching his experiments with fascination. “Perhaps you should take a break for a few days. There’s no use beating your head against a brick wall if you are only going to get the same results.”
Lucas nodded. “Not a bad idea. Instead, I’ll try to improve upon the affinity potions sold in the stores.”
His primary challenge in meeting his Pokémon's evolutionary requirements typically revolved around their affinity level. Although not overly challenging due to his Pokémon's habitats, it was a time-consuming task. Enhancing his training methods to boost his Pokémon's affinity would benefit both his team and his breeding Pokemon.
He had several ingredients with affinity-enhancing properties, so he had plenty to experiment with. He would begin by developing a rock-type affinity potion, which was one of Nero's evolutionary requirements.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=.
The next morning marked their final day at the dig site, however, they had no plans to search for more Mega Stones as they had plenty. They were anticipating a visit from Professor Sycamore, who was keen on studying their Mega-Evolved Pokemon.
When the professor arrived mid-morning, they made their way to a secluded clearing not far from their secret base, a perfect spot for Sabrina to show off her Pokemon.
Professor Sycamore, his lab coat fluttering in the gentle breeze, was practically bouncing with excitement. He had set up an array of sophisticated equipment around the clearing—sensors, cameras, and devices that beeped and whirred continuously.
"Now then," Sycamore said, adjusting his holographic datapad, "shall we begin this exploration into the mysteries of Mega Evolution?"
Sabrina nodded. She called out her Pokémon one at a time. Kasumi emerged in a flash of light, followed by Ashura and Axel. Salem appeared last, releasing a creepy chuckle.
"Remarkable specimens," Sycamore murmured, his fingers flying over his datapad. "The bond between you is palpable, Sabrina. Please, whenever you're ready."
Sabrina started with Kasumi and activated her Mega Bracelet. Kasumi's form began to change, becoming enveloped in a cocoon of dazzling light. When it faded, Mega Alakazam appeared before them, its elongated body surrounded by numerous spoons orbiting like satellites.
"Fascinating!" Sycamore exclaimed. "The energy output is off the charts! The transformation seems to have enhanced its psychic abilities exponentially. Sabrina, could you have Mega Alakazam demonstrate some of its abilities?"
At Sabrina's mental command, Kasumi's eyes glowed bright blue. Suddenly, several large boulders were lifted from the ground, hovering in complex, interlocking patterns.
"The precision control over its increased psychic power is remarkable," Sycamore noted, scribbling furiously. "The energy efficiency has improved by at least 200% compared to its non-Mega form!"
Salem's transformation was particularly striking; he became an even more unsettling presence. His body elongated, becoming more ragged, with seams that appeared to burst around the edges. His arms grew longer, terminating in sharp claws, and were embellished with zippers that opened to reveal glimpses of a dark void.
The aura surrounding the Mega Banette was palpable, a mix of mischievous energy and raw, ghostly power, causing small objects nearby to levitate slightly.
"Extraordinary!" Sycamore gasped. "The boundary between physical and spectral forms seems to have blurred. This could revolutionise our understanding of ghost-type Pokémon!"
"Bree will love this," Lucas whispered to Sabrina. "She has an even better toy to play with."
"I am happy for her but terrified at the same time," Sabrina admitted.
Ashura's evolution was a display of grace and power. Its body became more lithe, adorned with golden bands. As it demonstrated its enhanced abilities, it moved with incredible speed and agility, its strikes leaving afterimages in the air.
When Axel Mega Evolved, the transformation was so intense that the ground trembled. Its body reconfigured into an X-shape, golden claws emerging as it hovered imposingly.
Lucas watched in awe as Sabrina tested each Mega-Evolved Pokémon. The display of power was breathtaking—Axel uprooting trees with ease, Kasumi creating psychic barriers that even Axel couldn't penetrate, and Salem racing Ashura at speeds that blurred their forms.
"Now, Lucas," Sycamore turned to him, his hair dishevelled from running between his various instruments, "I believe you have a Mega Pidgeot? I'd love to see it in action!"
Lucas released Icarus and activated his Mega Stone. Icarus was enveloped in bright light. When it faded, Mega Pidgeot appeared before them, his enlarged form casting a shadow across the field.
"Magnifique!" Sycamore exclaimed, his excitement reaching new heights. "The aerodynamic changes are fascinating! The increased wing surface area, combined with the enhanced musculature... Lucas, could you have Mega Pidgeot demonstrate its speed?"
At Lucas's command, Icarus took to the skies. It circled the field once, twice, creating a wind so strong it nearly knocked Sycamore off his feet. The professor's equipment struggled to keep up with his velocity.
After hours of demonstrations and data collection, Sycamore finally sat on the ground, looking exhausted but thrilled. His datapad was full, and several of his devices had short-circuited from the intense energy readings.
"This has been invaluable," he said, beaming at Lucas and Sabrina. "The data we've collected today will advance our understanding of Mega Evolution significantly. But there's still so much to learn!"
As they began to pack up, Sycamore paused, a thoughtful look on his face. "How long are you going to be staying in the region for?”
Lucas and Sabrina exchanged a glance.
“Probably for a few more days,” Lucas said. "We got what we came for, but would like to spend a few more days exploring the region."
"Then I suggest you come to Lumiose City," Sycamore suggested. "A market has emerged in the aftermath of the Mega Stone announcement. People will be there offering pokedollars or even rare items in exchange for Mega Stones. You may even get to trade one for another if you don’t have the one you want."
“We were going to visit the city anyway,” Sabrina said. “I don’t see why we can’t.”
“Excellent!” Sycamore clapped his hands. “If you have time, I can show you the stone tablet we found. We are keeping it at the museum. Since you are the one who found the secret chamber, I’m sure I can get you access to it,”
“Have you discovered anything about it yet?” Lucas asked.
Professor Sycamore shook his head. "Not yet. We believe it holds something inside, but we aren't rushing to open it. It's an important artefact, so we may leave it intact and display it in the museum for the world to see."
The professor packed up his equipment and departed. They decided to travel to Lumiose City tomorrow. Sabrina went off to explore Terminus Cave so Lucas decided to devote the remainder of his day to training Nero. He was getting antsy for some battles, and he was worried about what would happen if Nero didn’t release his aggression.
About a mile from the secret base, Lucas came across a sand pit where some Trapinches rested. Seeing them, Lucas saw it as the perfect opportunity to fulfil one of Nero’s evolutionary conditions: defeat three level thirty Pokemon in a handicap fight.
Each of the ant-like Pokémon was easily higher than level thirty, their massive jaws clicking menacingly as they circled the Sandile. Lucas knew this would be a challenging battle for Nero, but he didn’t seem phased by the challenge.
“Nero, you need to divide and conquer your opponents if you are going to win.”
Nero's eyes darted between the Trapinch, his body low to the ground and poised for action. The largest Trapinch made the first move, lunging forward with its jaws wide open, preparing for a devastating Bite attack.
Nero sprang into action after Lucas issued a quick command. He used Dig to disappear beneath the sand just as the Trapinch's jaws closed on empty air. The other two Trapinch looked around in confusion, unsure where Nero would resurface.
The ground erupted beneath the second Trapinch as Nero slammed into its underbelly with full force. The Trapinch was sent tumbling, but quickly righted itself, clearly angered by the surprise attack.
Before Nero could celebrate his successful hit, the third Trapinch unleashed a Sand Tomb. The sand vortex threatened to engulf Nero, but he responded with his own Sand Tomb. The two swirling masses of sand collided, resulting in a spectacular display of flying grit and pebbles.
Using the sand as temporary cover, Nero darted towards the first Trapinch, his jaws glowing as he prepared a Crunch attack. He clamped down hard on the Trapinch's leg, eliciting a pain-filled cry from his opponent. However, this left Nero vulnerable, and the second Trapinch took advantage of the opportunity by landing a solid Bite on Nero's flank.
Nero released his grip, hissing in pain. He was now caught between two angry Trapinch, with the third circling to flank him.
“Use Dig again,” Lucas ordered, and Nero didn’t hesitate.
He burrowed into the ground, leaving the Trapinch snapping at the air where he had been moments before. The Trapinch spread out, their feet sensitive to vibrations in the ground, waiting for any sign of where Nero might emerge. Seconds ticked by in tense silence. Then, in a move that surprised both the Trapinch and Lucas, Nero burst from the ground directly beneath the third Trapinch, which had been standing a bit apart from the others.
As the Trapinch was launched into the air by the force of Nero's emergence, Nero quickly followed up with a Sand Tomb. The vortex of sand enveloped the airborne Trapinch, disorienting it further and causing it to crash hard into the ground. It lay still, having fainted from the combination of attacks.
But Nero had no time to rest. The other two Trapinch were already charging towards him, their jaws open wide. In a split-second decision, Nero used Torment on the closest Trapinch. A dark aura briefly surrounded the Trapinch, and its charge faltered as the move took effect, preventing it from using the same attack twice in a row.
Nero then turned to face the other oncoming Trapinch, meeting its Bite attack with a Crunch of his own. The two Pokémon locked jaws, each trying to overpower the other. It was a battle of strength, and Nero, being smaller, was gradually losing.
Realising he couldn’t win in a direct power struggle, Nero abruptly disengaged and used Dig again, narrowly avoiding a Sand Tomb from the Tormented Trapinch. This time, however, he didn't stay underground for long. He appeared almost immediately behind the Trapinch he had just grappled with, taking it off guard with another Crunch attack to its hind leg.
The Trapinch howled in pain and frustration, attempting to shake off Nero. In its frenzy, it collided with its companion, sending both of them tumbling. Nero took advantage of the confusion to unleash the final Sand Tomb, engulfing both Trapinch in a swirling vortex of sand.
When the sand settled, both Trapinch lay unconscious on the ground, completely defeated. Nero stood panting heavily, his body covered in scratches and bite marks, but his eyes shone with victory.
Lucas rushed to Nero's side, kneeling to examine his injuries. Scratches and bite marks marred Nero's tough hide, evidence of the fierce battle he'd just endured. Lucas reached into his bag and retrieved a Super Potion. He poured the contents into Nero’s mouth, and Nero grimaced at the taste.
"That was an amazing fight," Lucas said. He watched as the potion took effect, the scratches slowly fading and the swelling from bites subsiding. "Have you had enough for the day, or do you want to keep going?"
Nero's response was immediate and unmistakable. He turned his head sharply towards Lucas, his eyes blazing with renewed energy. His jaws snapped once, twice, the sound echoing in the sandy arena. There was no mistaking the message: Nero was far from done.
A grin spread across Lucas's face, matching the fierce determination in Nero's eyes.
"Okay, then," he said, rising to his feet and scanning the horizon for new challenges. "Let's get some more battles in. I think I see a group of Gible over by those dunes. Ready to show them what you're made of?"

As Lucas and Sabrina emerged from the Lumiose Teleportation Tower, the sheer scale of the city immediately struck them. Lumiose was a sprawling metropolis that dwarfed anything they'd seen in Kanto; its skyline was a mix of elegant Kalosian architecture and modern skyscrapers.
The Prism Tower, while still the city's centrepiece, was now just one of many impressive structures reaching towards the sky. Around it, a cluster of gleaming office buildings housed the headquarters of international corporations and Pokémon research facilities.
The Teleportation Tower stood adjacent to Lumiose Station, seemingly operational once more with the introduction of new electric trains. Its sole destination was Kiloude City in the south. Lucas imagined the Kalos government would seek to extend the railway system to interconnect all the cities, thereby offering more affordable and convenient travel options.
They made their way down one of the main boulevards. Six lanes of traffic flowed in each direction, with a dedicated lane for bicycles and another for public transport—sleek, electric trams that glided silently along their routes. The sidewalks were broad and tree-lined, accommodating the constant flow of pedestrians, from hurried businesspeople to leisurely tourists.
Several people were riding Gogoats as part of the Gogoat Shuttle service that offered transportation throughout the city. Lucas thought about hiring two for himself and Sabrina, but they weren’t in a hurry.
"This place is enormous," Lucas remarked, craning his neck to take in the towering buildings.
Sabrina nodded, her eyes scanning the urban landscape. "It's like several cities rolled into one. Look, you can see the different districts from here."
Indeed, as they walked, the character of the city shifted subtly. They passed through a financial district, where men and women in sharp suits hurried in and out of imposing bank buildings.
The city's famous café culture was evident everywhere. Instead of just a few token cafés, entire streets were lined with eateries, each with its own unique charm. The aroma of coffee and freshly baked goods filled the air, mingling with the scents of international cuisine from the many restaurants.
As they ventured further, they found themselves in a bustling shopping district. Designer boutiques stood alongside quaint local shops, while large department stores offered everything a trainer could need. Electronic billboards flashed advertisements for the latest Pokémon gear and upcoming Gym Leader exhibitions.
"The market should be up ahead," Sabrina said, consulting her phone's map app. "It looks like it's in a recently redeveloped area."
They turned down a side street and found themselves in what appeared to be a former industrial zone. Old warehouses had been converted into trendy loft apartments and artisanal workshops. Street art adorned the walls, depicting legendary Pokémon and scenes from Kalosian history.
The new market occupied a large, open square that had once been a factory yard. It was a vibrant mix of permanent structures and temporary stalls, creating a labyrinth of sights, sounds, and smells.
"This is incredible," Lucas breathed, taking in the scene.
The diversity of the city was evident in both the vendors and the shoppers. Trainers from every region mingled with locals, their varied Pokémon adding to the colourful spectacle. A street performer's Mr. Mime drew a crowd with its elaborate pantomime, while a food stall run by a chef and his Blaziken attracted long lines with its fiery cooking display.
A particular stall caught Lucas's eye. It was a modest setup, but the items displayed were anything but ordinary. Glass cases housed a variety of evolution items, rare ingredients, potions, and trainer equipment.
"Hold on," Lucas said, tugging gently on Sabrina's sleeve. "I want to check this out."
As they approached the stall, they were greeted by an older man with a Sableye perched on his shoulder. Lucas scanned the items, and his heart raced when he saw an Electirizer potion. He had been looking for this item since he discovered it was one of Max's evolution conditions, but he had no idea what shape it took. Unlike the game, hold items didn’t exist in this world.
"Excuse me," Lucas addressed the vendor, "How much for the Electirizer?"
The man stroked his beard thoughtfully. "Ah, that's a rare potion. It cost me a lot to purchase it at the auction house. Not for sale, I'm afraid. I will only trade it for a Mega Stone."
Lucas reached into his bag and retrieved a Mega Stone. He already had a second copy of the stone, so he had no reservations about trading it. “I think you would find that Mega Stones are much more valuable, so I want some other items as well.”
The man’s eyes widened at the sight of the stone. He gestured to the items on display. “Take your pick. The Mega Stone is more valuable than all of these items combined. Ah, I shouldn’t have said that.”
“To late to take it back,” Lucas teased. “I will take all the ingredients and evolution stones. I have no interest in the other items.”
“Deal! The old man said quickly, and they made the exchange.
Lucas had trouble carrying the items he purchased, so he and Sabrina found an alleyway and shoved them into his inventory when they judged no one was looking at them. As they were exiting the alleyway, a tall man in a brown trench coat suddenly stepped into their path. His piercing gaze and purposeful stance immediately set him apart from the crowds of tourists and locals.
"Excuse me," he said, his voice carrying a hint of an accent. "I would like to speak to you. It’s an amazing coincidence that we happen to meet here.”
Before Lucas could respond, Sabrina's eyes widened in recognition. "Detective Looker? Is that you?"
The man's serious expression softened into a smile. "Ah, Miss Kuroi. I'm glad to see you remember me. It's been a while since our paths crossed in Kanto."
Lucas looked between them, confusion evident on his face. Sabrina quickly explained, "Lucas, this is Detective Looker from the International Police. He worked with my uncle on the investigation into Giovanni and Team Rocket."
Looker nodded, producing his badge. "Indeed. And now, it seems our paths cross again, this time in Kalos."
"What brings you here, Detective?" Sabrina asked.
"Lumiose City is my hometown. I’m on the road so much that I don’t get to see it that often.” Looker's expression became serious once more. "I've been investigating Team Flare. I understand you two have had some... encounters with them recently?"
They nodded, remembering their run-in at the ruins.
"Your insights could be invaluable to our investigation," Looker continued. He pulled out a business card and handed it to Lucas. "I have a small bureau not far from here. Would you be willing to stop by and answer a few questions? Anything you can tell us about Team Flare's operations or their leadership would be extremely helpful."
"If you think we can help, we'd be glad to, Detective,” Sabrina said. “Your work in Kanto was crucial in exposing Team Rocket's operations."
Lucas, taking his cue from Sabrina, agreed. "We'll definitely stop by, Detective Looker."
Looker smiled, clearly pleased. "Excellent. But please, when you come, do so discreetly. We wouldn't want Team Flare to catch wind of our meeting."
With a tip of his hat, Looker melted back into the crowd, leaving Lucas and Sabrina to ponder this unexpected turn of events.
"Well," Lucas said, turning to Sabrina with a half-smile, "it looks like Lumiose City just got a bit more interesting."
So, what do you think? Lucas and Sabrina will spend some more time in the Kalos region before returning to Kanto.
Thanks for reading.
