So, about my Pokemon Story....

I have noticed recently that Pokemon: Way of Life has not been getting much traction on fanfic. I am not surprised, as there are quite a few problems with it. It was my first story, and I didn't really plan it out that well in the beginning.
My idea was to do a refresh of sorts and write a better story. Instead of releasing the next chapter of P: WOL on Friday, I will release the first chapter of the revised story. This is not a permanent change, but a way to gauge interest.
What do you think? Should I release the next chapter of P: WOL, or the first chapter of a revised version? Please share your thoughts.

There have been many improvements yes :) I would however argue that Gamer stories being a bit bloated is already expected. Because thats just part of the style haha

2023-06-11 08:04:09 +0000 UTCAnother problem is that I added too many ideas to the story. One thing I regret is making Lucas do so many different things and taking so long to get his journey started. The story became so bloated and it was hard to keep track of everything. You see that with my second story as well, HP: TMP. I would like to think that I have improved since then, but it's hard to fix something that is already so broken.

2023-06-10 22:14:18 +0000 UTCWriting such a long story with so many OC characters is very hard. There are bound to be mistakes. One thing I will say, regardless of this story, or any others you do, "Gamer" Storys in particular need to be well paced, in my opinion. Since there are many technical terms and things to explain in between, constant plot development is necesseray. Otherwise people lose interest. This wouldnt be a problem if the whole story would be available right away. But when releasing weekly (or in case of other writers even less) chapters, every chapter needs to "do" something. If you have 2 "filler" chapters only once back to back, we are talking about a 3 week wait, just for the story to become meaningful again. And yes in case of a Gamer story, since all the explaining and jargon takes so much space, chapters need to be longer then with other stories. Or let me put it this way: In every chapter the plot needs to move. Or barring that, if there really is a need to have a interlude or training arc or whatever, it needs to be done in one chapter. Otherwise the drag is just to long. And to give an example: chapters 51-54. Thats a month of chapters, that achieves basically one thing. Is that thing important? Yes. Is is engaging to wait an entire month just for that? No. The whole cinnebar arc either had to achieve more in that amount of time, or be 2 chapters max. And yes, I know I am being a bit harsh here. But if you want advice, that's my opinion.

At the end of the day it's your story to write, and if you feel like it can be better then you should go for it. I still really like the aspect of his system that gives his abilities. At the very least psychic powers are cannon in Pokemon, so he could keep that part? Ikd... Lol I'll be a long for the ride regardless of what you decide!

It got hard to follow and keep interested without seeing some canon characters. I did enjoy the concept tho. I wouldn’t change the story too much, just a general rewrite?

2023-06-06 19:22:48 +0000 UTCQuite a few things. Lucas will be literally dropped into the wild and have no family, so he won't have as many advantages. It will be more mature and darker, and trainers cannot go on their Pokemon journey until they turn eighteen. There will be more canon characters and fewer OCs. Also, the system will only benefit the Pokemon and not Lucas, so he will be a lot more vulnerable.
