WIP - Fall Animation

Figured I'd do another full cleaned, colored, and composited animation. Didn't work with a rough from scratch this time around so I used something I made last year. This was much more complicated/longer from the one I did last year. Just like the last one, I'm gonna go break it down about how each stage went!

This was done last year and it was something I noodled on RoughAnimator on my iPad. Wanted to showcase some interaction between these two. It's a bit of a messy rough and I think I did too many smears on this one (namely the first eye smear) but *shrugs* I think it's up to a taste thing. I really like how I handled the swing of Jack's arms here!

This bit was my most disliked part in the process. Thinking about how to keep my forms consistent, worrying about how each line moved throughout, it was such a head ache! It ended up being a bit wobbly to me but I'm pretty content with it! I don't think I should've used my textured brush for this one as it really affected how I did my colors.

And speaking of colors! Working on CSP was a god send so coloring was almost a breeze if it weren't for my textured brush. I ended up having a lot of transparent holes in the colors so I had to do a fill pass to make sure nothing comes off as transparent especially when I do the shadow pass in post. If anyone has watched me stream this I tackled coloring by doing one color at a time which I feel makes the process much faster over wasting time going back and forth picking colors

FX is always unexplored territory for me. I wasn't happy with how I did the FX on the rough so I had to do a new one all together. I want to go with spiral shape which I think makes it look cooler as it all collapsed into a rope/strand thing. Adding some secondary FX to the main one really adds more power to it and I'm pretty happy with how this turned out.

Now for all of this to come together through compositing on After Effects. Slapped a scrolling sky background and added some glows/blurs to the FX and an offset shadow layer to make the colors harmonize with the background. This shadow layer trick is such a neat and easy trick to do quick lighting

I didn't really plan how the background pans so I  had to eyeball the path of the camera. It took a lot of trial and error to get the right feel of the camera panning. Keyframes are hard

Anyway, thanks for following through this! This was definitely harder to do and happy I'm done with it. o(-<
