WIP - Appeal & Interest Tutorial Outline
Added 2020-11-15 04:42:26 +0000 UTCTL,DR: This is an outline for my next How To Make Your Art Look Nice Tutorial on appeal and interest and this is how I go about the early stages of my tutorials!
Before we get to the outline itself, I think I want to be transparent with how I approach making tutorials because I don't think I talk about how much writing and thinking this takes! I like to tackle topics that aren't talked about much which I feel could improve mindsets when it comes to drawing in general.
Anyway, below is a WIP of how i want the tutorial to go! I think it may be a bit short, but I'll see to add some more meat once I get a script of it down! The actual tutorial *may* take a while but here's a sneak peak of what's to come!

OBJECTIVE
Artists should learn to combine their current Idea of anything with reference, reinterpreting it, and then creating a better version of their current interpretation to use in future drawings. It helps deepen one’s visual library, in turn, making more interesting drawings!
MAIN IDEA
Using reference to improve your current interpretation of anything, increasing its appeal and making it interesting by breaking the reference down. Essentially:
Your current interpretation + reference
=
RENEWED INTERPRETATION (and maybe even more ways to draw!)!
THREATS
Appeal veeeerrry subjective and is an intangible concept! It will depend on your tastes and the the kind of art you want to achieve! Perhaps interest is the most tangible concept to examplify? if that’s possible????
KEY POINTS
- Intro to appeal (and how it’s subjective)
- Appeal can be described as cute, cool, scary, pretty, >>interesting<<)
- Examples (already??)
- The Formula (tm)
- Closing about visual library

DRAWING EXAMPLES:
Example 1 — A carton box
Starting out, when an artist would draw box, they usually forget to add wear, graphic design, volume, texture, and variation to improve the look of it
Example 2 — A Chair
A simple interpretation is the usually box with 4 legs. You can: 1.) add detail/materials or 2.) change the shape altogether
The end result is a more appealing interesting drawing!
This can be applied to LITERALLY EVERYTHING!
Anatomy (example of like an arm), Props (idk a tree??), Clothing (make a shirt interesting?)
Keep varying shapes, proportion and texture in mind when doing this!
The key is REMEMBERING these variations/additions to a point where it kinda becomes your default (if that makes any sense).
Closing: Building visual library to increase the amount of appeal and interest of your drawings!
Comments
Looking forward to this!
