WIP - Beastars
Added 2020-08-01 02:28:12 +0000 UTCOh boy, rewatching this was kinda painful haha. I’ve been chipping away at this in small bursts as I struggled a bit in making this. I don’t do this sort of style/shape language often so I suppose it makes sense the first half of the video was my getting shapes and the composition right.
I wanted to play around using as much parallel lines and diagonals but I feel that I could’ve pushed this more. I asked for some feedback over at the discord which helped!
Next was handling the rendering and colors. I wanted a relatively monochrome/analogous palette with red but a good amount of my time was spent tweaking brush settings and figuring out how to texture/block in forms. I actually initially wanted this to be a flat drawing with none of the lighting (maybe a subtle gradient) but I feel like adding lighting in does push the mood (which i’m all about lmao).
Looking back, I’d say this was an r&d experiment for the most part as I tackled stuff I don’t normally do which is sorta a breath of fresh air? Perhaps if I did this more, I’d definitely spend less time mucking about haha.
