Public posts
Added 2025-02-26 18:56:04 +0000 UTCHey, so we're about to be a part of this Patreon creators program they're doing. That means we are going to have to make 3-4 public posts per week, vs the private patreon-only posts like you're seeing now. They're going to be showcasing them on the front page and promoting them that way. The pilot program goes for 3 months, from March (very soon!) through end of may. They've only invited 200 creators to be part of this thing. It's intended to grow the show and the listenerbase - we'll see if it does! But that means a few things:
First of all, I hope that won't be annoying. I'm hopeful that the public posts won't ping your inbox, and we'll check on that, but let us know.
Second of all, if you have ideas for stuff you'd like to see as it goes along, let us know. Obviously with 3-4 posts per week they can't be super high effort!
Third, it might be helpful if you all interacted with those posts somewhat to help set the tone - who knows what kind of reaction an explicitly left-leaning video game podcast will generate in a somewhat more public setting. But more than that it'll just be livelier. Of course if there's nothing to say you don't have to force yourself!!
Fourth, we're going to rearrange the patreon benefits, because we haven't looked at them since launch and they're probably not really reflective of what's going on anymore. It shouldn't really affect anyone who's already here, but just letting you know!
Thanks all, let's see how this experiment goes!

Brag away. Y’all have such diverse and storied experiences and histories. We wanna know more than just what you’re doing now. We wanna know what ya did!

2025-02-28 17:28:49 +0000 UTCI posted the first of these - I already don't like how it embeds youtube videos so we may try uploading in the future. it's all an experiment here.

2025-02-28 01:21:47 +0000 UTCIf the idea is to promote the podcast to new people, in my mind there's a few key elements to the Insert Credit identity that has kept me engaged over the years. 1) obscure game history & culture knowledge 2) a unique set of perspectives drawn from your individual experiences in-and-around the games industry 3) a unique social network to draw on for guest appearances 4) an embrace of games as a milieu for weirdos with crazy ideas 5) a sense that the shows strive to be fun discussion hangouts rather than serious business And recently, 6) that at a moment of resurgent Gamergate-esque reactionary tendencies among certain segments of gaming media, you guys are openly and unapologetically inclusive/progressive/lefty/you get the idea. I don't know anything about marketing or communications, so I have no idea how to convey this stuff in brief posts. But to me if you're trying succinctly impress on totally new people why you guys are different than any of the other gaming podcasts, I'd try to lean into these strengths. Best of luck!

2025-02-27 18:45:51 +0000 UTCSounds cool, one thing i would be interested in is possibly surfacing older podcasts or content. For example maybe Ash and Brandon can share “gaming journalism piece they are most proud of” or if Frank/VGHF has an article from 2017 calling out some lost media that has since been found.

2025-02-27 17:02:20 +0000 UTCA first introductory post to Insert Credit, and a sort of Mission Statement might be good? This would be a great thing to rip the band-aid off! Let people know what Insert Credit is and what it definitely isn't (just as important!). Also seconding Brandon Walker's idea on separate posts on each member of the show! Hoping this works out, guys!

2025-02-26 23:45:33 +0000 UTCThat's a good idea, make violence island for the people!

2025-02-26 23:11:26 +0000 UTCCongrats, that’s very cool that you were selected! I hope this helps the show get more supporters! I know it was retired pretty recently, but I think a 3-month long, once-a-week Violence Island bracket might hit that sweet spot of having broad appeal to new people unfamiliar with the show, encouraging interaction and discussion with the post each week to vote and then find out who won, and not requiring too much effort on your end. It could just be a poll each week, maybe the panelists chime in with a brief argument for who they think should win. Or maybe two of the panelists pick the characters this time!

2025-02-26 20:12:03 +0000 UTCdoing a format could be cool, we could also see what works and doesn't that way.

2025-02-26 20:11:40 +0000 UTCThat's a solid idea. Nobody would want to brag, but maybe frank could do a little intro to VGHF etc.

2025-02-26 20:09:31 +0000 UTCThis is something esper was suggesting, so we might do that in video form if it's not too difficult.

2025-02-26 19:43:24 +0000 UTCAlso, I'm okay if there's a double-up of posts advertising a new episode if one is for backers and another that links to the official IC page!

2025-02-26 19:17:15 +0000 UTCGuest essays, some extra panelist recommendations for movies/music/etc, maybe some forum featured stuff to bridge the gap between the patreon and the forums?? Do what you will with this info!

2025-02-26 19:16:18 +0000 UTCInsert Credit is left-leaning? That's it, I'm out.

2025-02-26 19:14:46 +0000 UTCMaybe each member of the regulars could give us a brief narrative of their bonafides to help us get to know you better. A “get to know your hosts and their backgrounds” kinda thing. Most of us know, but the public may not.

2025-02-26 19:10:35 +0000 UTCThis is a super exciting time for you guys! To make it easier on yourselves maybe each day can have a consistent theme? Day 1 could be a dirtbag question, day 2 could be a poll and day 3 could be a mini obscure game showcase from your (Brandon’s) collection Sticking to a format would mean you could write the posts in bulk and then schedule them so you aren’t constantly having to think of new ideas. Just a suggestion. Best of luck!

2025-02-26 19:04:14 +0000 UTCIt would be fun (and easy, I suppose) to post weekly something like “here are the games the crew is currently playing”

2025-02-26 19:01:39 +0000 UTCMaybe you could spend a credit to make someone else write a post
