(brandon:) that's fair - there are a few behind the scenes things that made this episode less efficient and some plans that didn't pan out, but it's true that while it adds to the GOTY ep when we don't know what the other is going to submit, for the rest of the year ep it would be more efficient for us to all know - will keep this in mind for next time round. thanks for the feedback!

I agree with what's interesting but I think some chaff could be cut by having everyone's lists in a spreadsheet so you could skip the conversation asking if others played it. I don't think the novelty of not knowing each other's lists beforehand is important. These bits made the episode drag at times for me. Since everyone already prepped, it's only like 30-45 minutes in Google Sheets adding the data, lining it up and formatting since there are so few data points.

(brandon:) we could try to plan, but there's no way everyone would've played everything, so we'd still have individual monologues. For me I think part of what's interesting about it as a participant is hearing about games others have played that I haven't. There could be a way to structure it more, but no time this year!

(brandon:) yeah, I just felt like aside from trial and error (which wasn't that fun) it wasn't super clear what combinations worked and did what, even with all the stats available. super spreadsheet-brained. interestingly a tiny hobbyist game for the turbografx (strife sisters) kind of solved that for me by making practice rounds give you rewards (new formations).

A really good time and lots of new things I hadn't heard of before. The ending proves how well Alex is at what he does, but Brandon and Ash tag teaming it totally made it work haha

To touch on the Unicorn Overlord question, the meta kind of changes as the game goes. You can rely on matchups at first but by the end you need diversified units that go against several strategies. I feel like the transition could have been a little smoother but it's not entirely out of left field. They put out enemy units that sort of show you roughly where you should be. I played on the "I have beaten Tactics Ogre" setting not the "I've beaten Berwick Saga" setting.

I really enjoyed this! It reminded me of some stuff I gotta get back to and some stuff I can probably just give up on.

Honestly, I wish there was more planning involved. Most entries boil down to: "Anyone play this?" *crickets* [monologue] I imagine it sucked being the guest and not being able to contribute much because it was covered last episode. With things planned you could put out feelers for a guest that matches the remaining games that aren't initially covered.
