[WIP-Release] Renault Etoile Filante alpha-V0.1
Added 2022-12-08 22:39:40 +0000 UTC
CSP 1.79 or newer REQUIRED
Like promised in the dev-update #3, here is WIP version of the turbine powered Renault.
The car is almost done but still wip.
The driver animations are bugged at the moment and need to be redone.
So I suggest to drive in dashboard view without wheel and check the all gauges working :)
AI work but is a bit conservative and slow, at least they don't really crash too mush ;)
The Turboshaft: (Engine)
The Renault is powered by a Turbomeca Turmo 1 turboshaft producing 270hp at 35.000 rpm compressor side and 28.000 rpm Turbine side linked to a reduction gearbox who is directly linked to the wheels.
The best way to describe how it behave is: A very laggy electric car
And like an electric car, only has a forward and reverse gear.
Here is how it works if you are interest:

A Turboshaft is made up of two parts, the "'Gas Generator" and "Power Section"
The Gas generator consist of the air intake, compressor, compressor turbine and combustion chamber.
The Power Section consist of the power turbine and power shaft directly linked to the wheels via a reduction gearbox
When stopped at idle, the Compressor idle at 10.000rpm while the Power Turbine is at 0rpm.
To move, we press the gas pedal to inject fuel in the combustion chamber;
The pressure in the chamber rise wehile the fuel burns
The compressor spin faster and faster while the pressure continue to rise until there is enought force to make the Power Turbine spin, so the wheels and the car moves.
Once the Compressor is at max rpm (35.000rpm), the Turboshaft produce peak torque and It takes about 2-3 secondes to reach max rpm from idle.
This means that like an electric car it always has peak torque and doesn't need a gearbox. It's just laggy.
In Assetto Corsa the "Gas Generator" is simulated by a very very laggy Turbo and the "'Power Section" by the Engine/Gearbox data with some automatic clutch.
AC Turbo goes from 0 to 2.5 bar simulating the 10.000rpm to 35.000rpm of the Compressor.
AC Engine goes from 0 rpm to 28.000 rpm simulating the Power Turbine.
Quick warning: A turboshaft doesn't produce any "engine braking".
When lifting the throttle, the car is free-wheeling.
This is something to take into consideration when braking and brake fade is a thing on this car.
I suggest to experience that at Le Mans :)
Anyway, I will go more in depth with the other features everything in the public post but I think this was important.
Also the reverse gear is your 2nd gear on a H pattern shifter.
Thanks again for your support :)
Comments
Sorry for the late reply. Yes I see the issue. I think it's due to my experimental lua script changing the H-Pattern layout. Try deleting the script.lua in the data folder of the car. I don't have paddles on my rig so didn't thought of trying that. I will map two buttons and test that tomorrow on my rig.
2023-01-10 16:36:54 +0000 UTCHi there N&M! Firstly, thanks for bring this car into AC. Secondly, Ima need some help here, please. I RTFM'd the explainer, carefully. Logitech G920, no H-pattern. Car doesn't move. GT is running, responds to throttle, just never gets to the power-shaft/drive-wheels. I've tried all four auto-clutch/auto-shift combos, with, and without, extended physics enabled. Nada. (CSP 0.1.80-preview1) I run it up to 35k and hold there, and wait. Nada. Need an engineer assist, please.
