yes, that all makes sense for the mario voice! the mystery isn't why there's a new voice or who it is. the mystery is why bother to "retire" a person and make a big deal out of it rather than just replace them, why make all this pomp and circumstance.

2023-10-11 17:35:35 +0000 UTCI think the Charles Martinet and the mystery of the new Mario voice is pretty simple. Nintendo just don't want anybody associating a real person with their character. They want the character to exist independently of some guy. They aren't promoting the new voices because they don't want any focus on them, and I would wager that they will not keep one guy for any particular character voice for more than a few main entries, and swap them out without announcement from now on. They want Mario to be larger than life, but Mario can never be larger than Charles Martinet for a lot of fans, in the same way that The Joker can never be larger than Mark Hamill.
